Natalia Moore is the new girl at Santa Anna Prep, and all she wants to do is fly under the radar -- get to her classes, meet a few friends, and try not to make a total fool of herself in the meantime. But when handsome and popular Campbell Elliot goes out of his way to be nice to the new girl, Natalia's plan to go unnoticed flies out the window.
Cam's hot, but he's completely off-limits. Raine Marsden, the most popular and meanest girl in school, has had her eye on him ever since the summer. And Raine doesn't like competition.
When Cam goes as far as inviting Natalia to the exclusive weekend party at Raine's house, Raine sets her sights on a new victim. But what Natalia doesn't know is that Raine and her friends are no ordinary mean girls. They have powers most people can only dream of, and nobody will stand in the way of what they want. And what Raine wants is Campbell.
Claimed, the first book in The Witches of Santa Anna series of novellas, proves just how far true love will go and that nothing--not even pure evil--can change your destiny.
I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, although the mystery doesn't really start until the last few pages, I really enjoyed it...
I feel like I have had an introduction to the characters and that there is something (obviously) in the background that has affected Natalia in some way... I can see that there are good & evil characters already but I have no information - yet!
I really enjoyed this and I'm looking forward to the the next book.
Natalia Moore just wants to start her new school in peace, especially after the rough year she had when her ex-boyfriend Derek spread a bunch of nasty rumors about her and made her life miserable at her old school. It isn't going to be easy as Natalia is good looking and catches the attention of Campbell Elliot aka Cam. The thing though is someone else has her eyes set on Cam and that's Raine Marsden and she isn't about to let some nobody stand in her way, even if it means leaving threatening notes in her locker telling her to stay away from her man. This book ends on a cliffhanger as Brody who is Cam's friend takes Natalia to a small party gathering at Raine's, despite him telling Cam to stay away from her and not to bring her around Raine. The cliffhanger is where we get the first introduction to butterflies which will be a theme through the rest of the series. Claimed - Book #1 was a quick novella read and keeps you wanting more.
After finishing the whole "AT THE PARTY" series by Lauren Barnholdt, I figured I may as well move on to "THE WITCHES OF SANTA ANNA" series, since it presumably stars one of the characters from that series -- Natalia -- the girl who moved away before Emily's party. Anyways, CLAIMED follows the same pattern as the party novels -- it alternates viewpoints between the girl and guy, has a pretty slow pace during which nothing really happens, and the entire story seems to take place over the course of a few hours.
Basically, Natalia moved away from the "PARTY" school for some unknown reason, which I think is supposed to intrigue us to keep reading -- so that we can figure out the secret. However, the title makes it sound like the secret is that all these spoiled private school kids are actually witches -- right? Nothing was really revealed in this story, though. Natalia mysteriously changes schools and meets a boy named Campbell, who might just be the unstalkerish Edward Cullen type she's been seeking. Of course, Cam has an ex-girlfriend who, as we've learned from Barnholdt's style in the "PARTY" series, is a spoiled, beautiful bimbo who tends to obsessively cling to her ex and follow him around, desperate to reclaim her pitiful teenage love. So, of course, Natalia wants Cam, Cam wants Natalia, and stalker-ex also wants Campbell -- bad enough to start putting threatening notes in Natalia's locker. Yeah, you get my drift -- nothing's really happening here.
Now, semi-spoiler alert, but not exciting enough to actually block it -- the story ends with Natalia talking to Cam until Cam passes out cold for some undisclosed reason. Then, BAM, the story is over and you're instructed to move on to number 2 in the series.
Honestly, I probably need to quit dabbling around with these pre-teen reads and get into something a bit more substantial -- but at the same time, it's like a train wreck -- but slower and less interesting. Once you start reading, you just feel like you have to keep on until you get to an ending point, right?
I'll at least give it 2 stars because I don't know what's going on, which means I at least have a reason to move forward to the 2nd book...
So I only picked this book because it was short and my attention span SUCKS right now but Oh My God . Lauren Barnholdt you amaze me! Page one had me hooked and I instantly fell in love with both main characters Campbell & Natalia. They seemed so real with their emotions and I felt how they felt it completely just drew me in. I need to find out what happens and I love all the rest of the characters as well.
I'm sure some will say this seems to overdone with how the characters are with the whole 'new girl' situation but I don't care. It's amazing. I flew through the first book and although I believe it wasn't really a book, it was really a first SECTION of a book which usually irks the hell out of me these new authors calling pieces of books FULL published books I'll let it slide this once.
I enjoyed this book and although it was a well written book I found it hard to get into as it was written mostly in conversation. It was a good start to what will be an interesting series. As soon as I finished reading this book I immediately started the next one as I wanted to see how the story continued.
This was a good introduction to Natalia and the other characters and Natalia is a very strong, intelligent but intriguing character who I can't wait to see his she grows in the future books. I also liked how Natalia's relationships with the main characters from her new school were growing and can't wait to see how they develop in future books.
My main criticism of this book is that as the reader although you know Natalia has moved from her old school to her new school you never find out why she's done this. I also didn't like the fact that it was never explained to you why the two main male characters always felt lighter etc. when their with Natalia.
This book is very definitely for young adults as the writing shows very strongly however those who are older than this age range will still enjoy it. I would also say that anyone who enjoys paranormal romance book.
I gave this book the rating I did because although I enjoyed the book on the whole it isn't a book that I'll read again and due to the problems that I have mentioned.
What?? I feel like I just read a chapter not an entire book 😕. Way too short to be called a book. I hope the rest of the books are much longer. I don’t even know if I like this series...haven’t read enough to ascertain an opinion yet!?!? But I should definitely have one after reading the first book!😕😕
Title: Claimed Author : Lauren Barnholdt Release date January 28th 2011

Review : this book is about Natalia and she's at a new school a private school and there she meets some people cam and Raine and Natalia likes cam but raine doesn't like competition and cam invites Natalia to a party and offers to give her a ride but he wants to hook up with Raine until he see's Natalia have something in common, Cam's friend Brody takes Natalia and ends up kissing her and she freaks out and then something strange happens. 4 out of 5 stars
The story line is just ... ok. My complaint is that the author is selling very short novellas (at least 19 of them) for $2.99 each AND each one ends annoyingly on a cliff hanger. It seems that a whole book was written and the author is selling each chapter individually. 19 novellas or chapters at $2.99 each equals $56.81, that is a bit expensive for a book if you ask me.
**Spoilers**
I got tired of Natalia crying every other scene. I got tired of the characters jumping to conclusions over the simplest things and overreacting.
AND I'm PISSED off with the author about book 16, it was the worst book! She wrote Cam to be a complete jerk and a Cheater in that book when there was way enough drama already going on. There was also Dubious sexual CONSENT in book 16.
The books kept getting shorter and shorter.. Given (The Witches of Santa Anna #19) ends on a Cliff Hanger (big surprise) and it was written in May 20, 2012 with no mention of ever completing the series..
Shame on you Lauren Barnholdt and Aaron Gorvine, What a HUGE let down to your readers!
My Advice to the Author(s) is to re write book 16, Finish the series, Put it all in one book, and Charge a reasonable price!
That is how this long drawn out "Book" can be made up to the faithful readers.
I love paranormal romances and I love boxed sets, so when I came across this it was a must buy. At 77p for six books I thought it would be good value, however when I started reading it I realized my mistake.
The set contains the first three books from the witches of santa anna, and another first three books from another series. The santa Anna books are the only ones I’ve read because if I’m honest I was rather disappointed.
The story is fair and enjoyable to a degree, but the main things that switched me off was a) the shortness of them ; there’s only about nine chapters In each, which wouldn’t bother me if the story was complete, but it just seems to end without any conclusion. I know that it’s a serial but still the book should have a kind of ending…shouldn’t it? The other reason is because for a paranormal romance the action was few and far between. The characters are well thought out and the romance is what kept me reading to book three. But the plot isn’t all that good, and there is only a drop of paranormal to it, it bored me to be honest. The third book is easily the best because it gains more pace, but again stops dead just as it’s getting exciting.
I may read the last three books later, but to be honest I wouldn’t recommend this.
Trying to be objective here, since this is like a pamphlet with 9 chapters. That doesn't give me much to work with. Besides, I couldn't really get a feed for either of the characters depicted through their changing point of views, Natalia and Campbell. New girl Natalia transfers to Santa Ana, a private high school, running from some kind of bad experience in her old one. First day of school and she gets noticed by the 'hottest' boy in school, Campbell, which earns her instant hatred from the most popular girl, Raine, who's after said boy. From there... it doesn't get much original. It was nice that it was free...
How short was this book!!!!???. It starts with Natalia Moore, attending a new school for a reason unknown and ON THE FIRST DAY she meets Campbell the hottest guy at school who ends up inviting her to the most popular (and beautiful) girl at school-Raine's house party. Raine despises Nat as she sees her as competition for Campbells affections. And then THE BOOK ENDS at the party. As you can see how short this book must be!? And the party was after her second day of school. It took me half hour- probably less-to read the whole thing. Other than that, yeah its ok i suppose.
Nine chapters? I thought this was a big book, but only nine chapters. Now I'm not suprised that there are 20 books in this series. I checked the prices on Amazon. Every book cost around $6. That makes $120 for the whole collection. The story seems interesting, but it would have been better if the author just combined the whole series into one giant book. Nine charters! I'm still amazed. Almost nothing happens so there isn't enough things to write a review about. I have the second book too, so I'll just imagine that I'm still reading book 1!
i really liked this book. i thought it was a good start to a great story. however, it was so short i literally read it in like half an hour and it only took that lonk because i had 2 put it down half way through to take my dog for a walk. also i don't really get why it is called the witches of santa anna as there was no reference to anything supernatural going on until like the last couple of sentences. i can't wait to read the next book tho.
So I guess technically this is a serialized story...this blip doesn't even count as a novella. I can't even figure out the reasoning behind publishing something that is so incomplete. That being said, the dialogue is snappy and believable, though admittedly I personally am not a fan of all the profanity. Because of the brevity of this snippet there isn't much else to work with. It has promise. Just glad I bought the seven "book" set or I'd be more than a little displeased.
Could easily have been the first three chapters of a book, not a full book unto itself.
Stop me if you've heard this one before; New girl starts school, popular guy instantly feels drawn to her, popular girl is catty about it, New girl goes to party... too late to stop me, that's the end of this "book".
There are just enough hints at something more to the story to convince the reader it's bad writing. I will not be continuing onto the second set of chapters.
I really enjoyed "Claimed" The Witches of Santa Anna Book 1 - which is a very short enjoyable read. When I say short, I mean short - its only took me half an hour to read it. However, I found it to be fast paced and quiet intriguing with likeable characters. It was full of suspense and a romance is slowly building up between Natalia & Cam which had me picking up the next book straight away.
I bought this series on a bit of a whim, but ended up thoroughly enjoying it!
This first instalment introduces the characters, sets the scene etc. It is a very short read, i took me about twenty minutes to finish! Which is great if you don't have alot of time but want something nice and easy to get through!
Switches POV between Natalia and Campbell. Neither have a distinct voice. Their internal dialogue sounds the same. They often use the same phrases. The writing isn't good and is quite redundant. Frex, Natalia saying her "flat shoes are stylish but flat" (flat, meaning no heel). Really poor grammar. Line breaks in the middle of paragraphs, so bad formatting as well.
I bought the first 7 books in a collection from Amazon. They are easy to read because they are pretty short. I wouldn't say they are awful or great. They are interesting but slow. The main heroine of the book and the male hero really can't decide their butts from their elbows. You never know who's the good guy, who's the bad guy; so you really don't know who to root for or relate to.
Hmmm... The story seams it would be a good start to a book. But that's it, it a start. Now as for the editing,(of which there seems to be none), and the sentence structure errors which cause for the emotion of the moment to be lost at times. I think that with some work it could have been a better read.
Was the book meant to be only 15 pages? It took me just over ten minutes to read the whole thing, if less. Very good, but I was very shocked that we didn't even to learn about the girl's powers. The story just ended just as he fell over. I was thinking, "What?" but then i thought that Raine must have done something to him.
I don't understand why this book needed to be split into 7 parts other than to get more money for it.
That being said, it's.... okay? Pretty harmless, but goes after the ages old highschool tropes of the hot guy, evil queen bitch, her minions and poor girl who stands up against them.
The setting itself is kinda... meh, but some things are okay, and some scenes are adequately tense.
This book was rather short for me and I burnt through it without any problem. Natalia makes me want to know more about her past which will unravel when you get further into book two or three. I am enjoying them as well.
Its too short... Nothing really even happened. What is going on!? Is all the books this short??? If so, its a major rip off and the author seems like she is only wanting to make a quick buck on these things?
So far it's kept my interest a little. I will keep reading since it's a series and see if it picks up a little. I was surprised at how short the first book was. If I was buying the books today I would make sure I bought the series where it has seasons 1 and 2 and all 13 books are sold together.
This book was stupid so far. It has a lot of language, and so far is stupid high school drama. I bought a pack that is books 1-7 so maybe they will get better? It is a really quick read. It is like the author wrote chapter and had them be their own "books"
