Something is drawing Julia Collins to Magical Matchups. The Chicago-based dating service is a direct competitor to her own, and it’s winning. It even converted her two best friends, despite the fact that it’s run by a crackpot—if sweet—old woman named Verda who gives personality tests that rate men like fruit! She also espouses everything Julia magic, lust, and romantic love rather than logical partnerships.
Five minutes after they’ve met, Verda introduces “the man Julia will marry”—her best friend’s ex. The old woman had better be a witch, because although Scot’s kiss ignites a fire in her soul, there’s only one way Julia can see them finding a happily ever after.
Short review. *Slight spoilers* Took a while for me to get into the story, like the chemistry between Scot and Julia you could see how much they were attracted to each other but was denying it. Leslie was annoying and self center I don't give away anything but I won't have forgiven her for her behavior nor stayed friends with her. The book is a nice blend of love with a hint of magic woven in, the sex scenes are done tastefully.
Meet our heroine, Julia: owner of Introductions, a dating service. Julia’s two best friends are Kara and Leslie. And then there’s Verda, the owner of Magical Matchups, a rival dating service that is stealing Julia’s clients. What’s a savvy businesswoman to do? Send in spies, of course. BFF’s Kara and Leslie infiltrate Magical Matchups to see if they can figure out the secret of Verda’s success. Our story begins with the three friends meeting to discuss what the spies have uncovered. What they tell Julia sets off an inevitable series of events that will culminate into a very satisfactory ending and create a wonderful romance you will end up re-reading, I assure you. Toss in Verda’s handsome grandson Scott, and you really have something magical happening. Scott just happens to be Leslie’s ex-boyfriend – the One That Got Away. Leslie wants him back, but Verda is convinced that Julia and Scott are fated soul mates. Tension, misunderstandings, and mayhem ensues.
I really enjoyed this story. It’s the fourth book in Tracy Madison’s Magic series, but you really don’t have to have read the first three to enjoy this story. When you first meet Julia, she comes across as one of the most repressed characters you’ve ever read. And Scott! Well, he’s the quintessential jerk. I didn’t actually care for either of them at first, but the reasons behind their behaviour become clear quickly enough and you will warm up to (and start rooting for) both before long.
Of course, the most important character doesn’t show up until the middle of the book. One of Julia’s clients, Zita Hildebrandt, goes on a date set up by Julia. Her date is a pediatrician named Daryl. Daryl really likes Zita and thinks the date was fabulous, but Zita’s experience was quite different. However, being a lovely and fair-minded individual, Zita agrees to give Daryl another shot. On their second date, they each bring along a friend. As it turns out, Zita falls for Daryl’s friend Adam, and Daryl falls for Zita’s friend. So in the end, Zita gets her well-deserved Happy Ever After. How did I end up in this book, you ask? Well, I won a contest. But that certainly didn’t bias or prejudice me toward this book! Oh, no, not at all! This truly is an enjoyable read and I highly recommend it.

fluff at its best. The men in this series can only be described as magical. I was extremely sad to have read the last book. I want more of this sweet, Quirky and hilariously funny family.
Tracy Madison writes sweet, believable romance. In By Magic Alone she continues the story of the gypsy magic past down through the generations first held by Miranda (the great-great-great grandmother ghost), by following Scot as his grandmother Verna tries to find his soulmate through a dating service.
Something is drawing Julia Collins to Magical Matchups, a new and competing dating service, run by Verna. Only a few minutes after Verna and Julia's odd, magic induced meeting, Verna introduces "the man Julia will marry" aka Scot. The problem? Scot is Julia's best friend's ex. This relationship seems doomed to failure, but somehow Scot manages to convince Julia to psuedo "date" him so he has time to dissuade Verna that she is his soulmate. Of course, gypsy magic will not be denied, especially when Verna bestows it onto Julia. With all the miss cast spells, jealous ex's, betrayed best freinds and crumbling of Julia's carreer, can Scot and Julia find a happily ever after?
I find myself more and more interested in the simple way Tracy Madison spins her stories. They aren't complicated, but they do deal with the complications of life with a little added magic. A great read!

I bought this because I thought it might be similar to the Sarah Addison Allen books which I love. Sadly not. It's rubbish from start to finish (and, surprisingly, I did finish it although I 'scanned' the last half of the book instead of 'reading' it) and the magic fails to lift the story above the worst of Mills & Boon!
In book 4 of her Magic series, Tracy Madison introduces us to Julia Collins and gives Scot Raymond his chance at finding his soul mate. The problem is, Julia doesn't believe in soul mates. That, however, doesn't stop Verda, Scot's grandmother, from doing her best to make sure these two seemingly mismatched people find true love with each other. With a little dose of the Raymond family magic, Julia find her no-nonsense, straight-laced world turned upside down. And what fun that is for us to read about!
Once again, Tracy Madison gives us a light-hearted, romantic story that I couldn't put down. I sure hope she continues with this series, as there are a few characters we've been introduced to in previous stories who'd I think would make great characters in their own books.
I don't know what it is about this series, but I love it. This book is no different. I found the hero interesting. It was a nice change to see a male from the magical family (a male with no magic) instead of the women. The heroine was also a joy to read about. She is just a complete conflict of everything, it was great to watch her realize it and start to sort it out.
If you like witches you should start reading this delightful series. It's not the sort of scary-evil-is-about-and-we're-the-only-ones-who-can-fight-it type of magical series. It's on the lighter more fun side of magic.
A unique perspective on the dating game and finding your true love. We have dating systems and magic and competition that is working in effect that the main character is just lost. Lost in love, that is.....logic didn't cut it and emotions are awesome and love happens.
I loved all of Tracy Madison's Magic series. This was no exception. I enjoy the dilemmas of the main characters, the quirks and fun of the secondaries, and the overall goodness that comes out of it at the end. Plus all the fun loving hot loving!
I can't finish this. Maybe there's a HEA, but this heroine is manipulated, guilt-tripped, and used by every single character in this book. I find myself wanting her to tell them off and write them all out of her life. Toxic relationships all round.
This is the fourth of a series, all light and fluffy romances. There are a few twists along the way but it was pretty predictable. A quick and sweet little read.
