In Let’s Eat Paris! , a follow up to the success of Let’s Eat France! and Let’s Eat Italy! , Parisian lovers and Francophile foodies unite in the most joyful, absolute, fanatic guide to the foods and culinary culture of the world’s most beloved city.
From the same team that created Let’s Eat France! and Let’s Eat Italy! , comes this obsessively complete, energetically designed, love letter of a book, dedicated to the food and culinary culture of Paris—the most romantic and delicious city in the world! Let’s Eat Paris! includes recipes for famous Parisian dishes like the steak frites, Boeuf miroton (a braised beef born from leftovers), Jambon-beurre (a classic street food), and of course pastry favorites like the quintessential Parisian crêpe or the macaron. There’s an exploration on Parisian banquets and some of the great feasts of the city that have marked history, an introduction to the underground brewers that began with Abbey Monks in the nineteenth century and flourished during the revolution, plus answers to questions like where does Paris drinking water come from? Was lemonade born in Paris? And what’s the proper way to order a coffee? Readers can enjoy profiles on culinary legends like Antonin Carême who was beloved by none other than Marie Antoinette, or Édouard Nignon who authored one of the most important culinary works of the 20th century or page through fully illustrated guides like a walking tour of all best places to have a drink in the city, a survey of the classic French bistro chairs which have infiltrated the styles of cafes around the world, and of course a culinary tour of the Eiffel Tower. Fall in love all over again with the Parisian way in Let’s Eat Paris!
Odds would be pretty good you would say something that has to do with food or drink. Well, maybe after the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame.
Everything you can possibly associate with Paris food and drink is in this book. And the book is heavily illustrated with helpful charts and diagrams and photographs in a way that I love in a book of this sort.
I devoured this extraordinary guide to everything food-related (and more) in Paris. It is an incredibly enjoyable volume filled with everything you could ever possibly want to know about the city's food culture, restaurants (all levels and types), markets, the city's classic dishes, cheese, fruits and vegetables, bread and pastry, wine, and so much more.
It covers where to see and do all the things that would appeal to anyone who wants to experience Paris in all its culinary and cultural glory. There are maps, lists, timelines, insider information and how-to's. And yes, there are a number of signature recipes included.
This is not a guide to take with you as it is a big, heavy book and there is no Kindle or other digital version available as of this writing – read it before a trip, and take pictures of the most essential pages. Or if you are an armchair traveler, just read it for the fun of it and then go and eat, or cook, your favorite French dish, and follow it with a classic Paris-based movie or two.
I love these books. I own the first two in the series. This one might not go on the "to purchase" list, but I really loved reading it. It is a fascinating look at the cultural phenomenon of food in Paris.
My only minor issue is that this book will need updates as it relies on current restaurant information, and likely it will be outdated within a year.
The most perfect gift for a lover of french culture & cuisine and of course Paris! Amazing detail in both pictures and information. A stable piece for any collector!
Terrific book with short articles on many aspects of food in Paris - history, ingredients, popular dishes, restaurants, markets and more. This will be a reference for each visit.
I don’t usually rave about cookbooks, but this volume is so well made! It’s packed with loads of interesting info and cool historical facts. The little bits and pieces scattered throughout are really engaging, and the visuals are stunning. Un incontournable!
