NOTE: This book was previously titled The Adventures Of Miss Upton And The Sky Pirate
DESCRIPTION
Tilda Upton's talent at finding things with the aid of a talisman puts her on the edge of the dangerous hellhag category. Rather inexperienced in using her magic, she's prone to mistakes. It is one such mistake that lands her in debt to the Chief Royal Inventor who blackmails her into retrieving an Oriental and his machine. But to find the Oriental she needs to intercept an airship and the best way to do that is through piracy.
Tilda turns to the notorious Black Jack Knight, a sky pirate known for his cruelty and cleverness who dislikes passengers, particularly of the female variety. Fortunately for Tilda he accepts a currency she can provide—the location of a man who witnessed his brother's murder, a murder which Jack was falsely accused of committing. Together they fight corsairs, a mad inventor and their growing attraction to each other in order to retrieve the man Tilda has been forced to find, only to learn his machine could destroy her and everyone like her.

Another great novel by C.J. Archer! This one just had it all: pirates, steampunk, romance, a brooding (and attractive!) male character lol...
I did keep wondering about Knight's constant mood swings. But never up to a point where it started bothering me (although it was close...). Yet, even with that little "criticism" I loved this book. I hope the others in the series are just as good, and that I can get used to other characters being the protagonists. I just really loved Tilda and Jack's chemistry, and would love to know if they'll be having more pirating adventures :-)
The first thing the reader will notice is that it takes awhile to truly get into the book. The plot is ok, not terrific, but not bad. The characters are fun to read about. The reader will not necessarily like either of them-at times the heroine may appear a little bratty and the hero will treat her too badly ( for the reader's taste). The book has the typical heroine slowly falling for the hero outlook. As long as the reader doesn't take the characters too seriously, he/she should enjoy this novel. The action is there, the events are fast-paced, there is not too much detail (just enough), and the characters have interesting personalities. The reader will enjoy reading about their adventures and their dialogue-more than entertaining enough to keep the pages turning. This novel is terrific for adults who enjoy romance taken to the dramatic side.
Ms. Archer has written a fascinating tale with a mix of intrigue, adventure, romance, danger, and a villain who is willing to sacrifice everyone else for his own gain. I thought the way Matilda seemed to bring something out of Jack from the very beginning added heat and a certain amount of foreplay to this romantic novel. The Adventures of Miss Upton and the Sky Pirate not only included these two fantastic characters but some others who deserve a story all of their own, especially Mr. Sparks. Then you have the added bits of scientific inventions in a time that the society seems archaic in its prejudices, it gives this book a unique background which in turn gives the plot a richer and more distinctive outline. Great job!
An impressive read that powerfully evokes the steam-driven Victorian world of steampunk. When Tilda Upton returns a lost dog to his rightful owner, she accidentally alerts the authorities to her psychic powers. This sets a train of events in motion that lead her into a world of adventure, mixing with pirates, inventors, spies and hellhags. I didnt know what ot expect with this book but became enchanted by it's layers of complexity -the descriptions of the steam-powered world are sufficient to ground you, but not so overdone as to be intrusive, the characters are believable and the plot satisfying. A very impressive book by an Independant author, which in my opinion only goes to prove that mainstream publishers are missing out - big time!
I wanted to like this book, but I didn't. The "hero", Black Jack Knight, treated the heroine terribly for most of the book, for her own good of course (barf), and yet she still fell in love with him? I didn't feel any chemistry between them, and the plot didn't really hold my interest. I think the story had potential, but too many things just didn't work for me that I found myself rushing to finish so that I could hurry up and read something else.
Technical Note: I read the epub version from Smashwords, and there were some formatting issues where font changed randomly in the middle and then changed back.
This story was OK, it wasn't awesome, but it was OK. There were some sex scenes spread throughout the book which, I thought were lame. Maybe I have led a bit of a sheltered life. I wish there had been more to the story and less about... well you know. The writing style was OK, but nothing in the personality or writing caught me like Soulless or Paranormalcy. Overall, I could have done with out the book, but it wasn't bad.
I loved this story! It was fun, full of adventure and had a romance that kept you reading. All the Steampunkery stuff was highly contagious to read about too. I definitely think people will enjoy this book.
Bascially your standard historical 'pirate' romance only it is a sky ship instead of a sea ship. Fairly average - could have used some serious editing and I found the romance a little unbelievable. I few snarky exchange and sex in a swamp do not a true love make.
I really enjoyed this book full of paranormal and romance action with a steampunk feel. It has good balance of all that I mention and keeps you interested the whole way.
