TEACHES Just like all the stories in the Construction Site series, this book emphasizes working together and the joy of a job well done—real-world skills presented to young readers in a fun, accessible setting!
REST AS These books help small children slow their own engines and wind down after a busy day. Each story offers the delight of construction work and a well-earned, sleepy ending to tuck readers into bed.
Sherri has returned to her passion of writing to indulge her own children's passions. A graphic designer, she lives in Chicago with her photographer husband, a cockapoo named Quincy, several fish, a few hermit crabs, an ever-changing array of insects in jars, toys in every corner, and two energetic and inquisitive young boys: one fascinated by bugs and magic and another obsessed with trucks and trains. She's constantly inspired -- and often exhausted! She created GOODNIGHT, GOODNIGHT, CONSTRUCTION SITE in hopes of happier bedtimes and sweet dreams for all.
This is Sherri's first book, and (just in case you think it can't happen!) it was picked from the slush pile.
Lots of good info about construction and airports all set to rhymes with fun pictures. My son absolutely loved it and asked us to read it four times in a row!
Overall I really liked this, it has very cute illustrations, balanced pronoun usage without gender stereotyping, is really informative about the types of trucks used at an airport, and has a simple, straightforward story. I haven't read any of the other books in this story but I know my kid has really enjoyed them at his daycare.
I had one main complaint about this book, in the setup of the story. The trucks are all stuck in traffic on the way to the airport, and they talk about their problem and it's solution: the airport is too small and slow, and so is the road getting to it. Their solution? Expand the airport and add more lanes to the road. That solution will get more people in the air but it will do NOTHING for the traffic. They will be increasing throughput on the airport as well as the road, but the airport's increase will likely outpace the road's (since most people only carpool with their own party to the airport). And that is without taking into account other places the road might lead.
I realize that my kid doesn't need to be well informed on the nuance of civic planning at his age, but I also reject the indoctrination into this car-centric society.
Anyways, great book. I like the rhyming scheme, it makes it a great book to read before naptime.
Loved this one. You actually learn about the vehicles and what they do, nice variation to the usual construction vehicles. Could have done without like 5 of the pages though.
The six truck friends, as part of the Construction Site Crew, are starting a new job at the airport. They are in charge of making the airport bigger. The crew will need lots of help from their new airport friends to get the job done.
With rhyming text and the vibrant and classic illustrations we love from AG Ford, kids will be excited to see the Construction Site Crew on a new, very important job! The airport is getting so busy, it isn’t big enough to handle all the travelers coming in and out. So, the Construction Site Crew needs to build a wider road, more runways, and a bigger airport.
The crew likes watching all the planes come and go, but there is no time to slow down. There is so much work to do. While the Construction Site Crew works on the new addition, the airport crew keeps busy with their jobs unloading the luggage, fueling the airplanes, and tugging the airplanes inside for a maintenance check.
More and more planes need to take off, but they have to wait their turn. The Construction Site Crew is working hard to get the job done. But, when an unexpected springtime snowstorm arrives, the Crew switches into snow removal mode to keep everyone flying.
With the job finally complete, the Construction Site Crew has made all kinds of new friends and can head home for a good night’s rest. Don’t miss this new addition to the Construction Site series.

Out of the 6+ Construction Site/Crew booms by Rinker & Ford, this one sits in the top 3 in my opinion along with Farm Crew and Road Crew.
Sometimes I read this book 3 times a day to my nearly 3 year old son. This one does a great job naturally involving and showing off airplane trucks along with the construction crew. A great segway after reading is to look up one of the several airplane assistance trucks on YouTube.
Consider that in a demolition scenario, the cement mixer really doesn't do much of anything: it's difficult to show off all of the trucks' purposes as the cement mixer can only lay a new foundation and a skid steer doesn't have much of a point.
That's why I consider this one top 3 of the whole series. Cheers!
The Construction crew is off to build an airport as well as tell us about the machines besides airplanes that make the airport function. Who knew there are rubber removal machine at the airport, I certainly didn’t, but it makes perfect sense it has a function on the runways. This title seems longer than some others in the series. Construction Site is a great series for all those young ones who love big machines and their capabilities. Wish this series had been available when my son was young, but he found his way to a life with his favorite big machines, and in fact those machines have not been written about in this series. Hats off to Sherri Rinker for creating this series.
In this rhyming story, six truck friends join a team of other vehicles on a massive mission to build a big airport expansion. Detailed colored-pencil illustrations provide plenty of eye candy for young gear-heads. The gendered pronouns seem a bit distracting, however, especially when referring to objects. Nonetheless, Truck and Airplane enthusiasts will love this sequel to Goodnight Construction Site!
We are so proud of you for reading "Construction Site: Taking Flight!" You learned something really important—when we work together as a team, we can do amazing things! Just like the trucks helped each other build the airport, you can help your friends and family with big jobs too. Maybe you can help us at home, or help a friend at school! When everyone works together, everything gets done better and faster. You're becoming such a wonderful reader, sweetheart. Keep it up!

Another Library Book selection by my son. He really likes Excavators. I’m not sure what the age range for this book is but it can’t be 3 because it’s way too long for his attention span. Although it did have a good amount of text per page (and mostly rhymes which is cute). The illustrations are good but overall it’s just a middle of the road 3/5 stars ⭐️ would recommend but not to buy.
A tale told in rhyme of construction trucks working to expand an airport to make more room for airplanes and travelers, while the business of the day to day airport continues on the runways and near the construction site.
Written rhythmically, these books are fun to read out loud. This educates kids on airports and construction in a fun way. We try to collect all the books in this series because they’ve all been great.
Same as the farm version. Kiddos loved it because there are airplanes; I felt they tried too hard to turn an airport into a construction site—forcing the usual characters in, piling up the airport-related vehicles, and trying to include multiple seasons.
This is probably one of the best AG Ford ones. The rhyming meter works pretty well. It's a typical construction site book with cute pictures, fun rhymes, and a quaint little story.
