Born in Yorkshire, North England, Elizabeth Adler met her husband Richard (an American) while both were working in London. They have lived in England, Ireland, France, Brazil, and the United States and have traveled extensively. They have one daughter and live in Palm Springs, California. Her first novel, Private Desires (also titled Leonie), launched an enormously successful writing career, she also wrote as Ariana Scott. She has now written over twenty internationally acclaimed bestsellers.
It's a shame because the writing in itself isn't bad. It's quite gripping from the start -despite a horrendous rape scene- but I just cannot deal with how horribly cliché this all was. From the police officers, and the romance part (why you would mix a murder story with romance is beyond me but hey ho), to the murderer. So not only does it all make you eye roll so hard that you risk going blind but on top of that it's been done a thousand times already. bluuuugh, Elizabeth Adler, never again.
I couldn’t get through it. What trash this is I think I will have to move on to medieval literary history and poetry. If I get the urge to read a mystery, Brother Cadfael here I come
This book is listed under the genre of romantic suspense. I have never understood how romance and suspense are intermingled, however, Elizabeth Adler has a genre under this very title. The characters are stereotypical but amazingly interesting. The romance that developed mid mystery was somewhat addictive.
OK, take one hunky detective, think faded jeans, leather jacket, scruffy beard, and tousled hair plus an uptight, beautiful TV celebrity with lots of secrets, a psychopath who’s viciously murdering college girls and throw a hero dog into the mix, voilá, you have a mystery/romance novel. Easy Peasy! There is also an abundance of mysterious romantic/steamy bedroom scenes when they aren’t trying to solve the murder mystery! The best character is an adorable sheep dog named Squeeze who is the hero in the novel.
In spite of the humor it was an entertaining novel and just the lift I needed at the moment. Much more enjoyable than “50 Shades”… Thank you Elizabeth Adler!
While it took me awhile to really get into this book, I found out that I made judgement too soon. Elizabeth Adler can take you anywhere she chooses! I have to admit that I am ready for another surprise! This is cleverly written to entertain you every time you turn a page!
I enjoyed this book as an easy read, but was frustrated by the conversations between the two main characters, and the relationships between secondary characters. (POSSIBLE SPOILERS). Things might have been different if this book was the beginning of a series, I can see how it could be. But as a stand alone there were some threads that could have been edited out. What was the whole focus on Vanessa’s party??? Frankly, the whole Rossetti-Vanessa thing was weird and unnecessary. The last few chapters seemed oddly paced with so many twists and turns that I was afraid I’d get whiplash! Not to mention the things that don’t make sense — like Harry leaving Mal up at the secluded cabin while he goes back to Boston. That, after being run off the road, his car totaled, he comes back to the secluded cabin where she is ALL ALONE and he tries doorknobs, but not only doesn’t friggin’ call out to her, he laughs at her holding a gun and being frightened. Really? Even though I was +84% into the book by then, I still almost said the heck with it. The locked room was a bit over the top and really not necessary to the storyline. We already know the guy is weird. Interesting product placement through out the book. Keeping in mind the original publication date, there were a couple of plot points that were interesting (the car crash with the paparazzi comes to mind).

This is my 5th Adler novel after becoming addicted to her writing upon reading Legacy of Secrets 6 years ago. Although this doesn't compare to that one and is similar to a few of her other books, the character development of the heroine was quite good. The sex scenes were cringeworthy and unnecessary, as usual with Adler's writing. The scenes involving the killer were very well written and engaging but they were too far and in between a lot of long, drawn out scenes depicting the protagonists' mundane lives. While this book did pull at my heartstrings from time to time, especially the flashbacks of the main female character, I was sometimes annoyed by the lack of action or overly drawn out scenes of romance and unnecessary details. The male protagonist was unnecessarily and unrealistically depicted as rich, as per Adler's common motif. A decent read but not her best.
WARNING: This novel contains more than one scene that will horrify your mind and churn your stomach. When two fishermen interrupt a murderer as he attacks another victim, her dying declaration and description of her killer give investigators new hope of finding the killer before he finds his next victim. Soon Harry Jordan, a Boston cop, and Mallory Malone, a New York television personality, find themselves drawn together by interest in the case. As they discover more about each other and the killer, pieces begin to fall into place. How many more women will die before the clues point them to the killer?
There’s a warped murder on the loose bringing Harry, Mal and Dr. Blake together. The murderer assaults and brutality attacks his victims. The police aren’t having any luck in finding the culprit when Mal, a prominent TV show host, steps in with the idea of doing a special featuring the victims as remembered by their families in hopes this might jog people’s memory about something they saw or remembered about the crime. Also, there’s a romantic angle.
