Out of the Darkness

Killian Nicholas Langley has spent most of his life as a member of a covert team, living in the shadows, working among people who accept danger as part of their lives. When an explosion nearly took his life, he thought he'd do well in construction, hiding among the transients, keeping a low profile. However, he hadn't expected a boss quite like Jaymee Barrows.

Into the Sunlight

Jaymee Barrows knew the tall, dark stranger with clean hands and smart mouth looking for a job wasn't a roofer. He was going to be trouble...just like the big bad wolf. Best to stay far, far away from him.

But the more he got to know Jaymee, the more Killian was intrigued by his new boss. She had secrets he wanted to know about. Her light tempted the darkness in his life. And after tasting her, he wanted more....

Jenn, as everyone calls her, likes to keep things simple. That's why she runs a roofing construction business, teaches, writes and does her own business taxes eight days a week. She considers herself a multi-cultural and well-rounded person. Workers leave her alone when she starts yelling at them in Chinese and Malay. She also studies German and Russian because she can't pronounce French very well. The most boring and interesting thing she ever did was translating documents from various languages into English, giving her an opportunity to see many countries. Having traveled extensively in her twenties, she now spends her thirties quietly with six noisy dogs.
Shameless Promotion: Jenn was a RWA contest slut, having finaled in and won a bunch of them including the Marlene, the Merritt, and Indiana's Golden Opportunity. She is also a three-time finalist in the RWA Golden Heart contest before she became published. She would love to hear your comments about her books. She has been known to give away bookmarks and stuff to those who praise her.

AND, if your roof leaks, she can probably give you some advice!

Here are some wonderful writing friends of mine. I love their books! Please visit their sites and give them a try. Be careful. They are HOT WRITERS. Very addictive! Thanks--Jenn

This book was Gennita Low's first book that she originally "published" on the web--posting a chapter at a time for fans. In the wait for her next book, Virtually Hers, she self-published the book and made it available on Amazon.

I've read all her other books (except Virtually His) and enjoyed them all, but sometimes they could get a little complicated. They are all intertwined and sometimes I got a little frustrated trying to remember everything in the book and from book to book.

This book is one of my favorites of hers. It is easy to follow and well-written. It is a stand-alone book--no cliff-hanger, no wondering what will happen next. Jaymee and Nick are both great characters. Similar to her other books, the characters are all about mind games. Lots of "testing" and "playing games" with thoughts and actions.

For those who have read the SASS and Crossfire books, you will recognize Jed and Grace. Jed was mentioned more in the books, but I do remember Grace, also. In addition, the GEMs are mentioned. It is obviously a prequel to the others, but it isn't necessary to have read or even to read the others, but because they are pretty good, I would recommend them.

I loved this book and Gennita Low is becoming one of my favorite authors. Jay is running her father's roofing business when a handsome transient comes looking for work. She reluctantly hires Nick, knowing that he hasn't ever worked as a roofer. Jay and Nick, attracted to each other, both have their reasons for not getting involved and hold their own secrets. Jay is trying to pay off debts to her father for sins long ago. Nick, a spy, works for a secret government agency and is on the run from dangerous enemies who are trying to kill him.

Jay and Nick's romance steams up the pages and turns into a wonderful suspense. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves romantic suspense/army/seal books. The love scenes are well written, not as steamy/graphic as her later books but still very hot.

3.5 Guy With A Secret Life Stars

Nick, if that is your real name, has just survived a boat explosion. So what do you do now? No, not Disney World. You go to work for a sexy little roofer lady. Nick has lots of secrets, lots of hidden talents, and a serious crush on his roofer boss lady. Jaymee has a ass for a dad, a broken heart, and a company to run. She hires Nick because she needs another worker and he is HAWT DAMN good lookin'. He helps her work through her heartache, her dad problems and her lack of computer skills. She just causes more trouble for him. He needs to travel light and under the radar. Blown up boat, remember. She is not a complication he needs, but he just can't resist.

Can he allow her into his dangerous life? Can he live without her in his dangerous life? Good story, some HEAT. Good secondary characters.

This was an awesome romantic, with laughs great read. I love reading Gennita Low books because she always has such strong characters in them and makes you want to be independent and strong while at the same time having the ability to think things through in a logical way, being strong in your mind. There is the right amount of storyline, Romance, and suspense to keep you wanting to find out what happens next. Can't wait till the last "virtual" book comes out.

This was just okay for me. I thought the suspense was lacking for a good portion of the book. I didn't like how Jaymie opened up to Nick, but she continued to get the "The I can't tell you. It's for your own protection shit." Whatever dude. I did like Jaymie's occupation- both the roofing and restoration work. It was unique.

Big Bad Wolf

WOW! What an intriguing story. This one was about Nick and Jaymee. This story kind of reminds me about the author - female roofer. What an incredible way to get Nick and Jay together. I loved the appearance of Jed and Grace. It was intriguing getting to know these two and how their love story progressed. I am glad that Nick decided to go back to Jaymee so they could work on their happily ever after! FANTASTIC job Gennita! I would recommend this book.

First off, for anyone looking for a shifter/ paranormal book, this is NOT one. It was a pretty good romance book with elite ops, alpha male type military heroes. The storyline begins with drama, Nick is hiding out from the bad guys that tried to kill him by exploding his boat. So he takes a construction job as a roofer so he can be paid in cash until he can determine who is after him and how far his team has been exposed. The boss of the roofing contractor is Jaymee, or Jay as she is known. She is working off the debt her ex-fiancé left her with when he ripped off her fathers roofing business to the tune of over 100k. Her dad has been using her while he blames her for the financial troubles, her mothers death and he spends most of his time drunk and verbally abusive. I liked the pace of the story told from both POV of Jaymee and Nick. The story starts off with the crisis and then the mystery behind the drama slowly unfolds. Most of the story is focused on the relationship and not wasted on details of some covert military exercise that drags on. It was free, I liked it and I bought the next one.

Covert operative meets one hell of a woman who is now his boss. She just hired him to work for her roofing company. There is an instant attraction, but both of them have exceptional reasons as to why they will not act on the attraction to each other.

She has about a year and a half until she can finally be free of her burden; the debt she owes to her father.

He supposedly died when his boat exploded. He's been living under the radar ever since and is trying to find out who put the hit out on him. He needs some quick cash so he can get supplies needed to find his "killer".

She knows he's no roofer; his nails are too clean and his hands not calloused enough. Oh, but she's going to put him to the test for sure.

As the story progresses, so does the attraction to each other and then comes the moment when they realize they cannot deny their desires any longer. Unexpectedly, one of his comrades makes contact and the gig is up. He has to move, and fast, but now she's involved...and a target now too.

This is an exciting, fast-paced read that gets your blood pulsing. A steamy, sexy ride!

Hero: 8/10
Heroine: 9/10
Sizzle: 10/10
Romance: 7/10
Humor: 6/10
Secondary Characters: 8/10
End: 7/10
Pace: 8/10

I really liked this one. I was worried at first that it would be a shifter romance, but it wasn't, thankfully. The pace was excellent for most of the book but did take a slight hit toward the end. The characters are the greatest, I really loved the H/h. And their chemistry was off the charts! I especially loved the bantering and teasing, playfulness of their relationship. And the smexy times... so hawt!

My only issues lie in mainly the lack of condoms (ugh... pet peeve), several typos that pulled me out of the story, and I had a hard time following the suspense side of the plot. Even now, I still don't quite get it. The end was a bit wishy-washy too. I can't really explain that; I just didn't feel it. Overall though, this is a solid Romantic Suspense story that kept me hooked from start to finish. Nick and Jaymee may just be one of my most favorite couples of the year. I even teared up a few times at the end! I'd definitely recommend this to fans of RS.

Somewhat enjoyable I guess. I didn't particularly like Nick so I guess maybe my reluctance in committing to this book was due to that. He seemed a little unhinged. I could say it was because he was so cold sometimes or because he was full of secrets but I don't really think that's the reason because I liked Jed a lot and if anyone could be considered the king of cold and secrets it's Jed. I simply didn't see Nick's appeal. In theory he seems the perfect balance of good and bad but in reality, for me, it didn't work. I didn't doubt his capabilities or training, per se, but I sure as hell doubted his use of said expertise successfully. He appeared a little unstable honestly. All the talk in his own head? The way he talked to himself? Creepy. Truly creepy. So...my only reason for giving this a three star rating at all is the rest of the characters. I adored Jaymee. Her strength was amazing. And I adored Jed and Grace.

Jaymee Barrow knew there was trouble walking on her construction site. she didn't know what this man wanted, but she knew it wasn't a good thing that her body reacted to him like no other. Nicolas Langley was asking for a job. She needed help but it was against her better judgement she hired him. He was surprised by her, something very rare. Nick was hired by her, he had to lay low until he figured out who tried to kill him.
I like the chemistry between the two characters and the way they worked together.
This book was part of the Dangerous Dozen box set. I had never read any books by Gennita Low and found this one to keep me reading it. You won't be disappointed in reading this book.

I was very unimpressed with the story thought it could use more action. The romance was a little stiff and I had issues with getting into the story. I thought the deceit and mind games were a little to much. In fact I thought Jed and his daughter Grace were much more interesting than the characters we are supposed to be focused on. The story was rushed the romance between the characters were drawn out to much. I was just waiting for something to happen and when it didn't I was disappointed.

I ENJOYED THE CHARACTERS IN THIS (another series). NICK & JAYMEE'S STORY, THEY HAD THE HOTS FOR EACH OTHER RIGHT AWAY (of course they did). I LIKE HOW THE STORY FLOWED AND THE EXCITEMENT LACED INTO IT. NICK IS ONE VERY SEXXY MAN AND I DON'T SEE HOW ANY WOMAN COULD RESIST HIM, HE JUST DRIPS SEX. HOT! HOT! WHEW! HE WOULDN'T HAVE TO HUFF & PUFF, GIRL JUST OPEN THE DOOR AND LET HIM IN. I LOVE THAT BOOK COVER EVEN IF THE MODEL HAS A INNY. HOWL!!! ;>

This author is a favorite of mine, but this book wasn't one for me. The writing, as always, was good, but my favorite aspect of most of Low's books is the edge-of-the-seat tension, usually in a war zone or other danger area. This story was good, but mild in comparison to many of the books on my shelf (in paperback, these are ones I love to re-read). I'm tempted to look for Jed's story, as his character seems more intense.

2.5 stars. If I read this book before the others of Gennita Low's that I have read, I probably wouldn't have picked them up. It was too slow to get to the point, and neither of the main characters grabbed my attention. It was fun to see Jed in what I assume are the early days, and the last quarter of the book was better, but not enough to raise my rating.

Yummy book! He's a covert op under cover. She is the owner of a roofing company that hires him. Together they sweat under the hot Florida sun, trying to not give in to their desires, until they do.

I saw that someone on goodreads had tagged this as paranormal. Nothing paranormal in this, just a lot of Little Riding Hood allusions. And Killian can blow my house down anyday!

I got this book as a free download and I really enjoyed it. And no it is not a paranormal romance, as one might think when reading the title. I like the characters and cared what happened to them and I thought it had just the right amount of heartache, romance and action. I will definitely check out the authors other books. Very entertaining.

I really enjoyed this book. I have been on a romance novel kick recently, and usually there isn't much depth to the characters (which is usually part of the appeal) but Gennita Low did a really good job in the character development. I felt invested in this book. I will definitely be picking up more of hers in the future.

This is a credible love story between two quick-witty and humorous persons where sex is really making love and described in wonderful details without ever getting smutty. In the first half you just feel danger coming but you don't know when where or why."

I thought this was a paranormal book because of the title. It wasn't a literal wolf, so I thought wrong. The hidden message was we all made mistakes, but we can go on. Nick niece became a mistery to me, so I'm kind of intrigued. Let's see what happens next.
