First Time #1

Raising Seth

Rate this book
Cray's orderly life is tossed upside down when his foster sister asks him to take in her ex-husband's son. Seth is angry, rude, and just not what Cray wants to deal with right now. His software business is just taking off, and he needs to spend all of his time working. But when the two feel an undeniable attraction for one another, Cray can't ignore the pull Seth has on him. He's never wanted another man like he wants Seth, never even considered being gay, but he can't deny how his body comes alive every time Seth gets close.

Seth is angry with the world, pissed at his dad, pissed at Suzie who was nice enough to take him in even though she's not his mother and she's not married to his father anymore. But she too dumped him on a man he doesn't know. What's worse is he can't stop looking at Seth, can't stop wanting him. He's young, but he's had plenty of sexual experience with women. Men never even entered the picture. One accidental kiss is all it takes to make him rethink what he desires most.

The two men are stuck in the house together, alone. How can the inevitable not happen? But Cray's not ready to jeopardize what he's gained after growing up in a foster home. When the time comes for Seth to leave, will Cray ask him to stay and risk it all by revealing their little secret?

Sadly this never worked for me at all.

The whole story line was rushed and made little sense.

Seth is 18, but is treated like a minor by his step mother. She makes decisions for him without talking to him it seems. Maybe this could have been explained as her being the main carer, but we have no knowledge of their living arrangements prior to Seth being left at Cray’s. All we know is she was married to Seth’s dad for a year, but no idea when or how long ago, or how long Seth had been living with her.

The sudden attraction between Cray and Seth is, in my opinion, unbelievable. I admit I’m not a big fan of GFY books, but I’m willing to go with them as long as they feel real. A slow coming around, and a slow introduction to sex can make a GFY work for me. But this had no slow build. Instead there is an instant physical attraction and a quick jump into bed. The sex itself felt like I was reading a teenagers fantasy diary. In fact the whole writing style felt young too me, but maybe I’m just getting old lol.

Mostly this was far too short to get any real emotion built up for me. There was sex and a declaration of love, but nothing to show why they fell in love.

Just not my cup of tea, Sorry Lily.

I bought this story because I decided to be brave and try completely new to me author. And I am usually not brave, and only try new authors with the help of trusted recommendations, or when I can try them as part of reviewing for the blog. So basically I found another author whose works I will run away screaming from.

The age difference between characters did not bother me at all. I mean, 18 and 28? I have read stories with much larger age difference in mm, and while I am usually not a fan of May December romances, some stories with 20 or even 25 age difference worked for me. Ten years is nothing for this genre .... if written well.

This one just so was not. Seth reads to me as if he is fourteen or fifteen years old - he acts and talks as a very young teenager. Petulant teenager angry at the world and yes, did not feel as if I am reading about the young man at all.

And their interactions? I found them severely lacking chemistry. Also for some reason : "Do you want me to drink your come?" when characters are talking about whether it is okay to come in another guy's mouth makes me laugh and not in a good way.

Everything just felt artificial and wooden in this story. The whole set up of bringing Seth to Gray's house just made zero sense to me. And of course they both liked women a lot, just before this encounter that is.

And yes Gray tried really really hard not to make a pass on Seth... not. All his angst felt just so wierd because he gave in so fast.

I barely avoided giving my Kindle a flying workout when I was done with this story.

Loved this book so much!!!
Very intense, hot, fastpaced, with sympathetic characters, despite their flaws. I was holding my breath till the end.
Another confirmation that I like Eden Cole's stories.

So this one was OK; I liked it well enough. It's a short read (only 41 pages) so it can easily be read in one sitting. There is plenty of angst, which is always good as far as I'm concerned. The characters, Seth and Cray were a bit two-dimensional but I think that was mostly due to the fact that this was a 41 page book. It's not like there was much time to develop their characters. The sex scenes were OK, but that was my biggest problem with the book. I know this is from the authors "First Time Series" about guys with their first experience but it was obvious that both Cray and Seth had had plenty of Het sexual experience so they weren't complete virgins; they knew what they were doing. Was it really necessary to have so much running commentation during the sex scenes? I felt like there was a sex coach sitting there with them. There's a difference between talking dirty or whispering sweet nothings, and even too much of that turns me off (but that's just me), but I thought there was too much instructional talk. Now, the closet scene? THAT scene was hot :o) wish all the scenes were like that one. I also thought Susie's character was a little too accepting in the end. She was like, oh well, whatever. Not that she shouldn't be, it was just spur of the moment and she was like whatever, see ya. I kinda thought it felt odd. But that's just my opinion. So overall, I liked it, just wasn't bowled over by it.

A little disappointing, but it was still good. Very fast paced, I just wish it was a little longer, especially the beginning as there is very little character development and the initial attraction wasn't completely convincing.

Okay I'm so not sure what rating to give the book. Yes I understand the intense emotions between the men and yes I too have had a relationship with a man much younger than myself, but we were both out of our teens. I'm having issues with the ten year gap between the men and nothing in Seth's behavior other than his amazing refractory period suggested he could maintain a relationship with Cray. Amazing sex yes, relationship not so much. So while the story was HOT, the believable factor was right there with Narnia and OZ. Okay but I have to give the story props for heat .. lots of heat between two very intense men .. however, in real life this relationship would fizzle REALLY fast.

A bit unsure about this one. While the story was enjoyable enough and the characters were okay, there wasn't really anything that truly stood out for me. It was very short and could have done with a lot of fleshing out to make it a much better book.

A little too convenient, a little too forced, a lot too underdeveloped. There are very few exceptions to my dislike of the whole “straight person suddenly ‘turns‘ gay“ thing, and this is not one of them. The only reason this isn‘t a one is because it‘s hot.

Staying for love

I fell in love with the characters in this book. They were scared to try something new, being together, because they were men. In the end that didn't matter only love did.

So-so short m/m romance about a straight guy whose foster sister dumps her 18-year old ex-stepson on him for a month...

Fun short read... would have rated it higher if the story was longer. I would love to read a longer novel continuing the story of this couple.

I liked the story-line but it should have been much longer. There were too many gaps and the characters were not built up enough.

There is no way I bought a HEA for this couple. The story was way too short to wrap up the subject matter.
