Very interesting, as it was written to tell the story of NY State citizens who fought for the Crown rather than the rebels. I never realized that the King's Rangers, as they were called, were in charge of the native Americans, the Onondagas, Oneidas, Cayugas, Senecas, etc. At one point they talked about Buffalo Creek, which used to run past our house! A bit hard to read as the language was not as flowing as modern books, but informative none the less.
Overall, this book is a fascinating look at the American Revolutionary War from the perspective of loyalist frontiersmen and the fighting along the Canadian border. Addressing loyalty, civil war aspects of the conflict, relations with the Native American nations, and social/moral dilemmas, the author has crafted a unique story while telling the history of several frontier campaigns.
However, (my reason for only two stars) there is quite a bit of bad language; it is time period correct and probably what the guys would've really said, but I didn't like that part of the book. Also, if you are considering using this book with students, there is a romantic element to the story which may not be suitable for elementary students.
