This book is so great. I picked it up originally only in order to read the essay on Theopompus and ended up reading all the essays in their entirety. The essays' various subjects are a bit eclectic (the essay on Theopompus is one of the more specialized essays) which some may appreciate less than others but really all are worth reading. There's something so inspiring and engaging about Murray's style. Perhaps it's the lecture form, but his erudition doesn't bog down any of the essays, rather it accents them.

I would highly recommend this to a student of Ancient Greece.
