Ron Roy has been writing books for children since 1974. He is the author of dozens of books, including the popular A to Z Mysteries®, Calendar Mysteries, and Capital Mysteries. When not working on a new book, Ron likes to teach tricks to his dog Pal, play poker with friends, travel, and read thrilling mystery books.
This title in a beginning chapter mystery series was a disappointment to me. The story set the stage for the action right at the start - Dink heard the "bad guy" talk about how he was going to cheat old people out of their money and drown the golden goose. When the action was at its peak (the bad guys were getting away and sinking the boat the kids were on - HELP!), the story petered out. The next scene was the kids at the beach with the grandmother, watching fireworks. There was no mention of how the bad guys were caught!
Since this is a popular series, recommend it to boys and girls looking for beginning chapter books.
Three friends traveling to one's grandma's home in Florida overhear what sounds like a plan to rob someone. Grandma surprises the children with books about looking for treasure. Then, 2 men show up to discuss with grandma and friends an investment in their search for sunken ships loaded with gold. The kids realize these are the guys they overheard and work to stop them from stealing from grandma.
- Josh went from book F where he was an avid bird artist to glaring at a pelican at the mere suggestion it would take his icecream. - Ruth Rose's one-colour outfit was described as green for the 3rd book in a row. There were multiple days in the books, so it wasn't the same colour for a week, but it is odd that only one colour is mentioned per book and it was green thrice in sequential books.
I did not like this book because I did not like the part when Spike and Chip said they would drown the Golden Goose (the Golden Goose was a boat). I enjoyed this book because when the Golden Goose drowned Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose got out just in time.
This one had me wondering how rich these kids are, they seem to endlessly travel in their books, then I got over it and read the book realizing in a kids book, money is not an issue, imagination is. I loved this from the moment Ruth Rose's grandmother tells Josh and Dink that they could also call her Gram, how sweet is that?
I love that this one was less about "who done it" and more about them getting caught. It was obvious who the bad guys were but less obvious on whether they would get away with it!
My youngest daughter and I love listening to these!
okay so alot of people think that these are kids books. Well you're right. Even though they are they're still really fun to read if you like mysteries.

Summary/Response: A recap about this book was about three young kids named Ruth Rose, Dink and Josh. They went to visit Ruth Rose’s grandma in Florida for winter break. When they got to the airport Dink heard something sketchy going on with a man in the airport. They soon got adjusted to the Florida life and began to adventure around the town that her grandma lived in. One day they went to the beach and walked along the boardwalk where they met some fishers on their boat. They got talking and soon to find out that those fishers had found some gold in the ocean. Later that day the grandma had a meeting at her house with investors for the fishermen who have the gold. The kids soon came to find out that the fishermen were scammers and were trying to get money from the investors and try and sink their ship. They ended up sinking the ship while the kids were on it but they managed to get away just in the right amount of time! They ended up telling the grandma about it and she was all aboard to stop them and get the gold back to the museum in the city. I gave this book a 4 out of 5 because growing up these books were my absolute favorite because I was very into mystery. I would recommend these books to children who also enjoy mystery books as well.

I thought that the book was an awesome one because you can clearly visualize the events and also, it is fun to make predictions of what will happen in the next chapters. The pictures really bring out the characters and they honestly look pretty cool to me. The illustrator in the book really knows his pictures! The details make the picture look realistic and it looks like the characters are moving. I am amazed in these mysteries, and maybe there will be a scary mystery book! Reader(s), make sure that you are always reading books to improve your grammar, and to have fun enjoying being amazed in the events. Be sure to ask questions in these mystery books like, I wonder what will happen next, are they/is he/she going to________________________?, and other questions to get lost in the story. Be kind and healthy everyday, and think, I can read books and have fun! Before you stop reading this, I need to ask you, what is your favorite book?
This retired educator and Oma enjoys exploring chapter book series, that my 8 year old granddaughter is reading. A page turning read that includes 2 boys and Ruth Rose Hathaway. My granddaughter's middle name is also Rose. As a reader, I love titles with alliteration. The illustrations are delightful regardless of age. Plus the author Ron Roy has coloring pages for the series. Excellent series for 2nd and 3rd graders.
Many of the books in this series are fitting to read in October: The Haunted Hotel, The Missing Mummy, The School Skeleton, The Vampire’s Vacation, The Zombie Zone. My favorite title is in the A to Z Mysteries Super Editions: The Sleepy Hollow Sleepover with the Headless Horseman, which sounds spooky and scary. Reminds me of Conner Prairie's Headless Horseman Festival near Indianapolis, Indiana.
My six-year-old daughter says (I edited to hide spoilers): I sorta didn't like it because they just find the [bad guys] and [get trapped]
My 4-year-old son says: I want 3 stars. It was so fun.
Mom says: This book does have more danger in it than some of the other A-Z Mysteries. They aren't in danger for too long, but it could be very nerve-wracking for sensitive kiddos. I just ask once again, as I do for many of these books: SOMEONE CALL THEIR PARENTS!!! THESE KIDS NEED A SHORTER LEASH!!
Read these books when I was a kid and greatly enjoyed them, figured I'd give them a second read for kicks.
I certainly recommend any young mysteries fan devote time to this series, it's certainly a grand adventure for a young mind, the imagery of Ron Roy's words and his settings and unique character descriptions and personalities really help kids imagine a whole movie in their heads as they read each exciting page.
A great little mystery book for young readers. It's not too complicated but it has most of the elements of a good mystery. My 3rd grader enjoyed the book and I enjoyed reading it with her. Older readers who expect an elaborate mystery scheme should look elsewhere and spare this book their bad review. Clearly, the purpose of this work is to give kids their first taste of the mystery genre and, in my opinion, it does so successfully.
I liked all the gold on the cover and it was really really really really pretty. They were on a boat and someone looked suspicious that was writing Goose's gold on the boat with spray paint. Josh saw someone being suspicious saying they were going to take the dough from Ruth Rose's grandmothers cookies and he was also saying drown the ship. The people who stole the gold got away but ended up getting caught.

Review by S.R. : "If you like mysteries and don't like really long books it is perfect for you. It was such a good book. I love mysteries but I don't like really long books so it was perfect. I had a good twist and kept me interested from chapter one."
I love that these books have mysteries about things that really happen. In this one the kids try to figure out if Ruth Rose's grandma is being conned. Funny and interesting.
Long work days and 3 books behind means reading books from my childhood. A cute mystery that I definitely remembered loving as a kid. A book with an animal in the title (Pop sugar challenge)
A nice little mystery about some men who try to swindle money from senior citizens and the kids stop them by finding out the real truth. Formulaic but appealing to second graders.
