pertama kali tertarik baca buku ini krn covernya manis dan sinopsis nya bagus...belum lagi ceritanya yg tentang barrister..beda dengan HR biasa...
bagi yg belom tau, barrister itu semacam pengacara zaman HR dimana seorg barrister biasanya lulusan oxford...
cerita dimulai dari heroine kita, Lady Evelyn Darlington yg datang diam2 ke persidangan our hero, jack harding buat mencari bantuan. lady evelyn berniat menyewa jasa jack untuk mewakili calon tunangannya mr. randolph something (gak inget namanya :p) yg di tuduh membunuh aktris terkenal Bess something (sungguh deh gw gak pernah inget nama2 tokoh selaen peran utama :p)...
eniwei...jack adalah pengacara kriminal paling terkenal dan hebat...be;om lagi jack adalah mantan murid ayah evie...profesor/earl lyndale...
evie juga sebenernya gak cinta randolph....cuma karena dia pikir co2 lain membosankan dan gak bisa menerima pemikiran dia...evelyn pingin co yg pintar dan bisa di ajak berdikusi....jadilah dia berhubungan dengan randolph yg salah satu murid ayahnya...
tapiiii...lord lyndale gak setuju evie menikah dengan randolph....why ? ntar kejawab di akhir buku ^^
back to jack...jack kaget pertama kali evelyn memperkenalkan diri...dia gak nyangka 'little evie' yg 10 tahun lalu selalu ngikutin dia kemana2 waktu masih jadi murid ayahnya ternyata udah menjelma sebagai gadis cantik yang mempesona, charming dan pintar....
so waktu jack mulai flirting ke evie (cuma jack yg manggil evie)dan tau kalo evie mau menyewa jasanya buat membela calon tunangannya...jack langsung menolak....
tapi evie minta tolong dengan sangat dan bilang kalo jack gak mau menolong dia, setidaknya demi ayahnya yg dulu jadi guru jack, buat menerima kasus itu...akhirnya mau gak mau jack nerima juga...
semakin bertemu dan membahas kasus dengan evie, jack makin terpesona dengan kepintara evie...apalagi jack udah lama gak bersama wanita....mistress terakhirnya juga ditinggal begitu aja karena dia sibuk mengejar karis....
tapiiii...dia gak bisa menghilangkan evie dari bayangannya...apalagi jack minta sebagai bayarannya, evie mesti mau mencium dia....
evie nya mikir sebentar ( sebentar aja..wong evie juga dari kecil udah suka sama jack hohohoho)lalu setuju untuk berciuman.....
so di chamber nya jack lah mereka berciuman pertama kali....ehem :p
so ternyata ciuman aja gak cukup...jack selalu terbayang2 evie....ngebayangin begini begitu di chamber nya sama evie ( judulnya aja " in the barrister chamber :p) sayang evie nya keliatan gak tertarik dan mikirin randolph...walo sebenernya dalam hati evieterpesona dengan ciuman jack yang katanya 'beda' dengan ciuman randolp (terang aja...si jack kissu nya juga hot sih..wet kiss hihihihi )
evie yg keras kepala gak mau ditinggal dan gak disertakan dalam memecahkan kasus siapa pembunuh si bess...so mau gak mau jack setuju juga bawa evie kemana2....
mereka mencari diary bess yang berisi daftar nama2 kekasih bess yg salah satu diantaranya merupakan pembunuh bess...
randolph sendiri dalam pelarian....karena dia ditemukan lagi memangku tubuh bess yang berdarah2 dan penuh tusukan, jadi dia disangka pembunuhnya...so sebelum ditangkap, randolp kabur dibantu dengan temennya, simon guthrie bersembunyi....
semakin berdekatan dengan jack evie semakin menyukai jack...jack cinta pertamanya waktu usia 12 tahun...dan jack juga protektif dan cemburu...bagi jack, randolph gak pantas buat evie...masih 'bocah'...evie butuh seorang pria beneran (maksud nya dirinya sendiri :p)
tapi krn evieudah bertunangan dan jack gak mau menikah...jadi jack mau mengikuti saran temennya....finding a whore (temen gebleg)
padahal jack selalu 'lust' setiap ketemu evie....
so jack menghubungi mantan mistress nya...janji ketemuan dan memperbarui hubungan mereka...
si mistress menerima dengan senang hati krn jack mengirimkan perhiasan ....
si mistressmengajak jack ke kamar...naked...dan mulai aksi 'supermarket' nya biar jack bisa nonton dia....
tapi ternyata liat si misress beraksi si jack gak bisa 'bangun' hihihihi.....
kalo bukan evie gak bisa...jadi nya jack pulang lagi hihihihi...( so sweet)
and then akhirnya....jack pun bilang ke evie kalo dia begini begitu dengan evie...evie yg juga merasa dia gak bisa menikah dengan randolph dan merasa ketertarikan dengan jack akhirnya setuju begini begitu dengan jack..sambil sebelumnya nanya dengan lugu....beneran jangan kasih tau siapa2 dan gak hamil kan ?
kata si jack...off course....selalu ada cara mencegah kehamilan heheheh....
dan berhubung duia2 nya udah gak bisa menahan diri lagi...terjadilah seperti judul bukunya IN THE BARRISTER'S CHAMBER.....
di chamber nya jack mereka dengan semangat uhuk2 (mumpung ruangan sepi dan rekan2 jack lagi keluar semua :p)
dan sesuai janji....sebelum jack nya mengeluarkan...(sensor)...dia menarik (sensor) dan mengosongkan...(sensor)....di perut dan dada evie.... (kipas2 :p)
esoknya evie bertemu randolph dalam persembunyian...si bloon randolph yg lagi kabur malah keluar dan main judi...dikira curang dan di hajar...ketauan deh kalo dia buronan....
dalam keadaan mabuk laudanum evie bilang ke randolph kalo dia gak bisa menikah dengan randolph...
after that bukan berarti evie mau menikah dengan jack...no...no...no.....
evie tau jack bukan tipe yg mau menikah..dan evie gak mau di duain sama karir...dia mau menikah krn cinta....
pulang dari beretemu randolph tengah malem dengan diantar jack evie pulang ke rumah dan di pergoki oleh ayahnya...
lord lyndale minta jack buat menikahi evie krn bagi ton evie udah ruined..pulang malam2 dengan bachelor tanpa ada chaperone....

kasih 4 bintang...gw suka HR yg ada misteri2 nya..

A mi me resultó entretenido. Lo recomiendo.

In The Barrister's Chamber introduces Jack Harding -- perhaps the best defense lawyer of his generation. As a young man, Jack never showed any inclination towards the study of law or for any study, for that matter -- but, after studying under Emmanuel Darlington, Jack found his calling. He is smart, successful and well-received in Polite Society -- all the things that Jack has worked towards accomplishing. He has decided that a wife and a family would be needless complications in the well-oiled machinery that is his life and has decided to never marry.
When Evelyn Darlington, the beautiful and intelligent daughter of his beloved mentor, approaches him and asks his assistance regarding a murder case, sparks fly and Jack is made to reconsider his decision about love and marriage.
Evelyn was 12 when she first met Jack and, even at such a young age, she knew that what she felt for the young student was more than just academic and scholarly. Now at 22, she is almost engaged to Randolph Sheldon, her father's university fellow -- but their engagement plans were derailed when he becomes the only suspect in the murder of a well-known Drury Lane actress.
Jack's professional instincts all scream for him to refuse the case but, one look at Evelyn Darlington and his long-standing affection for her father, Emmanuel, compels Jack to accept the case.
The murder of Bess Whitfield proves to be the tip of the iceberg -- as Jack and Evie discover more clues that point to something more sinister: murder, the blackmail of members of the ton, etc. Evie and her father's lives are endangered when it seems that what the murderer is looking for is something that Evie or her father have in their possession -- and he will stop at nothing to get what he wants.
What I like about this series is how the author has managed to turn a profession (being a barrister) romantic -- and the barristers that share the same chambers at Lincoln Inn all possess heroic qualities. Tina Gabrielle breathes new life and dimension into her group of heroes: Jack Harding, Anthony Stevens, Brent Stone and James Devlin ( In the Barrister's Bed
) -- I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Jack's work at Old Bailey and his interactions with his fellow barristers.
I think Tina Gabrielle understands perfectly the legal aspect of her story and she writes it so well and in such an accessible way. In the trials that she narrates in her story, she also highlights the very real problems of London in the 19th century and the barrister's role in maintaining a semblance of sensibility in the justice system.
The love story between Evelyn and Jack was also well-done. A childhood crush develops into something more -- and Evelyn and Jack have both found someone worthy of their trust and affection. I love that what begins as a physical attraction for Jack deepens as he comes to know Evelyn better, and discover the core of steel at the heart of her. She's a woman who can stand up to him and stand by him, when necessary.
Love or career? This was the question that Jack thought he had already answered -- and I'm glad that he eventually realizes that it isn't an either/or situation but an "and also" -- ^_^.
Finally, the mystery of the Drury Lane actress's death was riveting, especially when it was discovered who were involved in Bess's life: respected lords, who might have done anything to keep their names out of the scandal sheets. Tina Gabrielle keeps you guessing until the very end.

The lady is nothing but trouble, he mused. She had been a minx as a girl -- an I-know-it-all-better-than-you-ever-will tormenter -- and as a grown woman she was wildly beautiful. His attraction was its own warning. He never mixed business with pleasure. It always led to disastrous results in the courtroom.

A good story. Don't be surprised if the villain is easily recognizable.
This novel had many components I enjoy about historical suspense: a barrister, courtroom drama, brawls, romance and action. The proses are beautifully written. However, one area I felt lacking was the hero and the heroine were too perfect.
What makes a novel more interesting is character flaws. Who wants to read cookie cutter characters! Despite the heroine stubborness, she could do everything perfectly. Another aspect that cause me to reduce my rating: this young lady has been studying the science of law her entire life but does not use one iotta of her intellectual knowledge to help solve the murder case. Her best friend who lived within the confines of the Era was more interesting.
The hero had a competitive nature, however did he have to be presented as a man who won at at everything. I would have preferred he be presented as a man who had some enemies that were "at least" working against him. Nor, would I have lost respect for him if he'd gotten into a fight and had to lick his wounds. Men love challenges. Spoiler Alert: good grief, he was too perfect, he did not have to chase after her to get her panties off. I knew she was attracted to certain types of men, but she should not easily given away her virginity.
The secondary characters helped move this story forward. I think, the storyline itself would not have held my interest if not for them. Especially when certain inserts felt written by a historian.
3 .5 stars: Overall a good lengthy story, but no Wow factor.

This was an entertaining and uncomplicated story. The sizzling chemistry between barrister Jack Harding and Lady Evelyn Darlington sustained it though. Evelyn’s unofficial fiancé, an Oxford scholar, is wrongfully accused of murder and she needs jury master Jack Harding’s help. Jack Harding was an apprentice of Evelyn’s barrister father and her childhood crush. Jack has his docket full but gratitude to Evelyn’s father urges him to accept Randolph’s case. And since Evelyn will not allow him to investigate/prove Randolph’s innocence alone, the search pushes them together. The sexual tension is so palpable but Evelyn is torn by her loyalty to Randolph and knows that Jack Harding is not the love and marrying type. Jack Harding has always seen women as a distraction from his career ambitions. He has never planned to get a wife and family. But this is a romance so of course those doubts prove puny to the love brewing between them.
I read this in one sitting after a particularly hard deadline. It was lively enough to pick up my mood. I just had one issue though. The moment that Jack Harding’s friends met Evelyn, they immediately assumed that she would distract him from his work and even offered advice how not to let it happen. I didn’t understand why they would jump to that immediately as though Jack’s skills and intelligence would be impaired by a woman. It was actually an insult to him. It was just so presumptuous and illogical. Anyway, by the end of the book, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the author Tina Gabrielle is a lawyer as well and even a former mechanical engineer. Wow. See? Romance writers are not stupid.

Suka sama buku ini, kedua karakternya sama" kuat, intriknya bagus, orang" disekitar pemeran utama juga menarik untuk dibaca, ga sabar baca buku berikutnya.
Suka dengan Evie yang tidak biasa dan beda dengan karakter wanita di buku" HR lainnya, dia punya pendirian yang kuat, cerdas, tidak peduli pendapat kalangan masyarakat yg cenderung berpikiran sempit, mungkin krn dia dibesarkan dgn diberikan kebebasan untuk mengemukakan pendapat oleh ayahnya, sehingga ia menjadi karakter yang menarik.

Suka dengan Evie yang tidak biasa dan beda dengan karakter wanita di buku" HR lainnya, dia punya pendirian yang kuat, cerdas, tidak peduli pendapat kalangan masyarakat yg cenderung berpikiran sempit, mungkin krn dia dibesarkan dgn diberikan kebebasan untuk mengemukakan pendapat oleh ayahnya, sehingga ia menjadi karakter yang menarik.

August 17, 2012I don't know why I keep trying to read romance novels. I never finish them. Usually it's because they get so steamy, but in this one I never even got that far. This was a case of a book taking itself way too seriously. I realize that the incredibly dramatic tone is a convention in romance novels but that doesn't make it any more boring.

Me ha gustdo la forma de llevar el caso del asesinato, de una forma ágil, que te mantiene en vilo hasta el final.
Los protagonistas tampoco son los tipicos miembros de la nobleza.

Awalnya saya tidak tahu apa maksud dari tulisan Novel Dewasa. Membaca sinopsis yang ada di belakang sampul sudah membuat saya tidak tertarik sebenarnya. Bahasa yang digunakan seolah berat, terlebih saat yang disajikan adalah gambaran-gambaran pekerjaan sebagai pengacara dan berbau detektif. Namun, karena besarnya rasa out of the box yang saya miliki, saya akhirnya membeli buku ini. Satu bab, dua bab, masih membosankan, tetapi setelah berlanjut dan mulai memahami alurnya, saya mulai suka dan ingin segera menyelesaikan buku yang lumayan tebal untuk dihabiskan 1 malam.
Di dalam buku ini, bahasa yang digunakan sangat pas, ilmiah dan mengalir, alurnya sulit ditebak, sajian dramatisnya tidak begitu terkesan fiksi, diksi yang digunakan mampu membuat pembaca ikut masuk seolah sedang menyaksikan bahkan sedang ikut berperan di dalamnya. Mantap! Saya mengacungkan ratusan jempol untuk apresiasi buku ini.

Despite a few historical inaccuracies (too early for her to wear drawers, the terms "feminist" and "suffragist" weren't in use during the Regency), this was a nice mystery/romance hybrid, blending the best elements of both genres. No damsels in distress here!

The three lawyer friends James Devlin and Brent Stone inject humor, advice, and a touch of mystery while Anthony Stevens puts in a bit of cynicism and a somewhat crude attitude about women. He's a divorce lawyer and knows too many secrets about too many ladies.
Other secondary characters that ramp up the action and the tension as the plot unfolds are: the hiding Randolph; Simon Guthrie, the go-between for Randolph and Evie; the Earl of Lyndale; the Earl of Newland; Evie’s friend Georgina’s father, Maxwell; and Bessie Whitfield, the lady of the night with a diary. Who are good guys and who are bad guys gives the reader some surprising shocks. Who would have thought it?
Tina Gabrielle uses the elements of the English Regency period to create a tantalizing setting for a plot that twists and turns from the halls of academia to the fetid alleys of London with characters ranging from nobility to rough, dangerous thieves and smugglers. Ms. Gabrielle’s well-developed characters, her descriptions that quicken the senses and the magical love scenes make In The Barrister's Chambers spellbinding. How she untangles all, and ties up all the loose ends to get to a happy-ever-after keeps the reader turning pages.

When Lady Evelyn Darlington’s fiancé, Randol[h is accused of murder, she turns to Jack Harding for help. Jack Harding was once her father’s (Her father is a law professor.) pupil, but is now a famous lawyer in his own right. Although Evelyn used to worship Jack when she was young, they no longer keep in touch after Evelyn’s family moved. With his brilliant track record, Evelyn is hoping that Jack can defend Randolph and acquit him of murder. Evelyn knows that sweet and scholarly Randolph, is innocent, but can she convince herself that she’s not attracted to Jack anymore? And can Jack convince Evelyn that Randolph is not the man for her?
With its unique setting, I really enjoyed this romance about lawyers in the early 1800s. Jack is a fascinating jack-of-all trades (pardon the pun) character. Even though he’s a lawyer, he seems to know how to do everything from spying to lock-picking. He’s definitely quite a guy and a very glib talker too! Unfortunately, Jack makes Evelyn seems really, really bland. She’s too goody-goody-too-shoes and naive for me to believe. The literary cliché of a beautiful girl not realizing her own attractiveness is also a bit too unbelievable. Still, the awesome hero and the entertaining ‘who-done-it’ part of the story kept me on my toes to the very end.
Solid and engaging, this is an enjoyable Regency romance especially for fans who love the courtroom drama genre and a good mystery.

Tina Gabrielle has created convincing three dimensional characters in her book In the Barrister's Chambers. The characters speak, act and seem to feel the way a real person would in a similar situation. The plot has many twists and turns that keep you riveted to your seat and turning pages to see what happens next.
Lady Evelyn Darlington loves the law. After all she was raised by her widowed father who was a professor at Inns of Court that took pupils under his wing for tutelage. One such pupil was Jack Harding. Lady Evelyn had been entranced by Jack Harding even as a child.
Jack Harding is now a successful barrister and Lady Evelyn requires his services for her soon to be betrothed who has been accused of murder. After convincing Harding to accept the case, Lady Evelyn manages to worm her way into the investigation at every turn.
Because I don't believe in giving out spoilers, I will not talk about the rest of the book....but know it is a fabulous read. It does contain some well written areas that firmly sizzle on the page.
In the Barrister's Chamber is an excellent read. It contains romance, intrigue, mystery, and some revenge. You can't go wrong reading this one.

In The Barrister's Chambers was definitely a delight to read. It had an engaging storyline along with murder intrigue that kept me guessing until the end. There is also great character development. I enjoyed getting to know both Jack and Evelyn as they were very likeable characters. They are folks that I'd have enjoyed getting to know in real life. As for Randolph, he's not an unlikeable character by any means but I would definitely agree with Jack when he thought "He is just a boy; what she needs is a man." Evelyn is a strong, independent woman and it's obvious she would dominate in any relationship with Randolph. Jack and Evelyn however have great chemistry and work very well together as a team. Jack is a much better match for Evelyn.The interaction with the other 3 barristers was great. They were amusing, charming and flirtatious. I look forward to reading the rest of their stories and can't wait until the next one is released in September, 2012.

dari tiga novel TIna Gabrielle yg sudah aq baca (termasuk yang ini). Semuax berkisah ttg wanita yang pemberani, mandiri n cerdas dan tentu saja keras kepala. dan semua herox adalah para pekerja kecuali Blake Mallorey yang seorang Earl, tp meskipun seorang Earl dia tetep bekerja n berinvestasi. Suka dengan cerita dimana tokoh heronya bekerja, tidak melulu seorang bangsawan tapi seorang yang dihormati n dihargai karena usahax sendiri. dan suka sama tokoh cewekx terutama di cerita ini. Karena Evelyn Darlington seorang wanita yang cerdas dan berpikiran apa adanya. sedangkan Heronya, Jack Harding seorang yang cerdas, berpendirian keras, tentu pandai bicara n lembut n mengerti evie. Paling suka tokoh hero yang namax Jack (serasa cowok bgt). SElain itu aq penasaran dg teman2 Jack, Anthony, Devlyn, and Brent Stone. Terutama Brent Stone, penasaran gimana kisah cinta n kehidupanx Brent, cos rada tertutup n kelihatanx dia bukan seorang playboy seperti teman2x n sptx di jg selibat. Jadi tambah penasaran ?????

I love the Regency period with all of its rakes and hellions. There's something about reading about spunky heroines taming the wild men of Society that's so appealing. This was my first barrister though and, I'll have to admit, I wasn't sure I'd like a lawyer hero at first.
I was so wrong! Gabrielle has created a whole new image of barristers in my mind with this novel. Jack Harding is hot and seductive and hot and intelligent and hot...did I mention hot? :) I also enjoyed the spunky Lady Evelyn Darlington. Her background with the hero and understanding of the life he lived was a treat for me. She wasn't your typical Society lady. I thoroughly enjoyed every little spark that flared between them.
I can't wait to get my hands on the other barristers who were friends and colleagues with Jack. Definitely want to see them find women they deserve.

An interesting start to a series. While I did like the first book in the Barrister's series I wasn't overly satisified with the hero, for me there was something I couldn't quite figure out with his character to let the heroine pretty much make him do what she wanted. He was portrayed as a strong demanding male but caved when she asked him to do anything for her with very little argument.
I think that at least two of the other three barristers have the potential for real good stories, not sure about the fouth, because he is the typical historical rogue who will meet his match in his heroine.
