I have to start with a disclaimer: I LOATHE CAMPING! That said, I led a Girl Scout troop for about six years. I got around camping by having a camping chair, who organized those events and went with the kids while I stayed home. I found this book during those years, and I LOVED it. We tried quite a few of the ideas in our own backyard with our daughter. At the time, I gave many copies as gifts. This is a fun book--even if you hate camping!
The subtitle of this book is "A Unique Ideabook for Camping and Cooking" and yet it is mostly about the cooking. That's great for me. It has extensive instructions on a bunch of different camping cooking methods. Some I've never even heard of before, but which I immediately want to try when I see them. It includes both primitive and rather complicated methods. I highly recommend it if you are at all interested in outdoor cooking methods.
I read this when it first came out. There are a lot of good ideas in here, some others are less than, but still creative. Great ideas for living rough if you need to, or if you decide that is what you want to do.
