The Rocky Ridge series continues the story of Laura, Almanzo and their daugher Rose. This boxed set contains Little House on Rocky Ridge, Little Farm in the Ozarks, In the Land of the Big Red Apple and On the Other Side of the Hill.
MacBride called himself "the adopted grandson" of writer and political theorist Rose Wilder Lane, the daughter of writer Laura Ingalls Wilder, and as such laid claim to the substantial Ingalls-Wilder's literary estate, including the "Little House on the Prairie" franchise. He is the author of record of three additional "Little House" books, and began the "Rocky Ridge Years" series, describing the Ozark childhood of Rose Wilder Lane. He also co-produced the 1970s television series Little House on the Prairie.
Controversy came after MacBride's death in 1995, when the local library in Mansfield, Missouri, contended that Wilder's original will gave her daughter ownership of the literary estate for her lifetime only, all rights to revert to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Library after her death. The ensuing court case was settled in an undisclosed manner, but MacBride's heirs retained the rights.
I read this series to my boys after we read all the Little House books. These stories are such a wonderful way to see into another lifetime and appreciate what is special about each person's life. It was also fascinating to see that Rose's independence causes here life to diverge from the previous generations of her family. If you are fascinated with this family you will find Ghost in the Little House very enjoyable. That author explores his belief that Rose was the main writer of the Little House books. It also exposes Rose's disdain for the way she lived growing up. It actually revealed her as a very unsettled person despite what most people would consider an incredible heritage.
I was a young girl when I first read this series on a spring break way back in grade school. Since then (over 20 years later) the books are still with me, sitting on a shelf in the basement, waiting for my daughter to come to an age where I can introduce her to the stories. They are so special, and I connected with the family so much, although I forget many details, I never forgot that warm fuzzy feeling I got from the series.
I read all 8 in the series (last = "Bachelor Girl").// The author knew Rose Wilder Lane - Laura Ingalls and Almanzo Wilder's daughter. These books continue the tale of the Wilder family after they left the prairie, then Rose's life leading into young adulthood. If you're a "Little House" fan, you have to read these. Very good.
this is the story of Laura Ingalls Wilder's daughter Rose Wilder Lane. it is good. i didn't like them as much a the Little House books. but really who can top them. and i thought Rose was kinda snotty. but over all they were good.
A must for any Little House fans! About Laura's daughter, Rose. Read the books as a child and have beautiful memories...All of the books are not listed above, however. I didn't read the last couple or so...
Thanks to the local library book sale, I read the portion of this series, In The Land Of The Big Red Apple. Since I was a fan of the Laura Ingalls Wilder series as a child, I enjoyed this one as well.
