Witches of Willow Hollow #5

Ganache and Ghosts

Rate this book
Willow Hollow faces its greatest challenge as a semi-reluctant witch’s past and a murder victim return to haunt her.

Which isn’t surprising since a side effect of a lingering curse causes Harper Dade to manifest ghosts. But the current threat to the East Tennessee town brings a cauldron full of danger and is very much alive.

At the end of the trail of ganache-smeared footprints, the victim is not. As she readies to cater a holiday event, Harper discovers her ex-husband’s body and stands accused of his murder.

The house her ex-husband rented holds secrets even the local witches question. As the Hocus Pocus Holiday Gala approaches, a woman claiming to be involved with Harper’s ex-husband and a local ghost uprising cause confusion and mayhem.

If she can’t solve the mystery of her ex-husband’s murder soon, Harper may be forced to leave the Taste of Magic Bakery, those she cares about, and her wizard almost-boyfriend behind.

This is book five and the finale of the Witches of Willow Hollow series and sees Harper Dade, witch with a curse and who seems to gather ghosts, about to find out some home truths that have been hidden from her for a long time. She and her aunt CeeCee are being forced to cater for a huge party her ex-husband is holding in Willow Hollow, in his attempts to gain more support for his theme park, whilst holding loan papers on all of the businesses in town! Harper delivers the first round of bakery goods and supplies for the party, with Bub her talking cat familiar and the ghost from the bakery. It seems the witches, shifters, ghosts and so many more of the local residents, have little choice over this theme park being built and their enforced participation in the operation of it. When she returns with her second load of goods, everything is locked up and something is off. She uses the key she was given, but soon finds all of her previous delivery strewn all over the kitchen and broken to pieces. A trial of ganache footprints lead out in the winter wonderland set up in the garden, where she finds a dead body! Before she can call the cops, other people and witches turn up and believe her to be the killer.
One reason is the fact she is glowing, a side effect of her magic coming back, but not in quite the same way as before! Harper isn’t going to be able to help the sheriff’s department to solve this case, since she is the main suspect, but she is going to do all she can to figure out who the true killer is and clear her own name. She believes her ex stole some magical and important items from the bakery, but has no proof of that. Her ex has turned up in town with a new girlfriend, or fiancée, who is yet another witch, but this one is a wayward witch who doesn’t belong to a coven, a rogue witch who doesn’t like to follow any rules. During the start of the investigation, a letter is found addressed to Harper, which starts her off on a quest, which may reveal a lot more than she could ever have expected, about her past, her parents and the curse placed upon her and why she seems to attract ghosts all the time. She is asked to bring the ghost of the first victim back to the house, so his fiancée can talk to him, as she is determined to take over where he left off with his business ideas!
There is a lot going on and it seems Opal wants Harper to take over her position within the coven, which brings heated debate and disagreements, but another similar murder soon draws the attention elsewhere. This is a finale with a lot mixed into the tale, with ghosts going haywire in this witchy tourist town, a large secret source of magic, multiple murders and Harper’s haywire magic and mysterious quest to contend with. She may get some answers, but it seems it will come at a high price to those around her. Someone wants more power than they should get and is willing to do anything to get what they want. Harper and her friends need to figure out who it is and stop them before more murders occur and the town is damaged beyond control. If you haven’t read the other books in the series, this one will be very confusing to you and I wouldn’t suggest it. The story gives a few answers to issues from previous books and certainly more about her parents and why her magic was cursed, plus a possible bit of romance at last for Harper. A complex finale with more than just a murder or two in the mix. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Fun Paranormal Cozy Mystery Murder!!!

Ganache and Ghosts is the fifth and final book in the Witches of Willow Hollow Series and it is the first book that I read by Kat McGee and I really love it.

Harper Dade is a fledgling witch and an assistant Baker at her Aunt CeeCee's the Taste of Magic bakery in Willow Hollow. Her vicious ex-husband, Sebastian Grainger, is in town, he is involved in the loan takeovers which included the loan hanging over Harper's aunt bakery and he also intends to build the theme park in Willow Hollow. Harper talked her aunt into catering for Sebastian's fancy holiday party to try to convince him to release the loans. When Sebastian is found dead Harper becomes a prime suspect so she need to find the murderer fast before it's too late.

I love Cozy Mystery with animal especially cat and in this book I really like Bub, Harper's familiar, he is so smart and funny ^-^

This is a great read, a very entertaining, fun, fast-paced cozy mystery full of humor, romance, interesting characters, twist and turn as you try to figure out who the murderer is. It is a must read for any paranormal cozy mystery fans.

Ganache and Ghosts is the final book in the series and I don't want it to end, there should be more mysteries for Harper to solve, now I need to go back and start reading this series from Book 1.

Who Killed Sebastian ? . . .

Willow Hollow is a magical tourist town where witch Harper Dade is accused of murder. With more than half the town wanting Sebastian Grainger dead, the suspect pool will be getting quite a bit larger.

The plot is well-written and holds the reader’s attention as Harper searches for clues to exonerate herself. The characters are easy to like as the reader figures out how they support the mystery as they move smoothly through the story line. You will find this to be an enjoyable cozy mystery with the right balance of suspense and danger. Grab your copy and examine the clues with Harper. She’s running out of time! Will she find the murderer? And will she discover something important about herself as well?

much is afoot with the arrival of Harper Dade's ex husband and his threats to call in business loans and run a supernatural theme park

many lies and inconsistencies are revealed, as well as the real true love that Sebastian discovered- quite a singular one.

Things within the coven and community will change with consequences from a variety of participants, powers, and supernaturals of various kinds

Can Harper and the community survive? The coven? Realm changing interactions

Sebastian is a sleezy ex to Harper, who is working in a bakery with her aunt. He wants to take over the town and make it a theme park. While trying to get on his good side, he is found dead and Harper is the prime suspect. The characters and the storyline are fantastic, with plenty of surprises, twists and situations that keep you on the edge. Loved the locale and the townspeople. The ending was great and I can not wait to read another from this series.

Quest and nurder...

This is the last book in this series and I wish there would have been more!  This is a nice book and the story well written.   I like the way the main character, Harper interacts with the others and I especially love Bub, her familiar.  I would have liked to know more about this cute town and get more stories!

I received this book as part of an ARC team and this is my honest review.

Harper is a new witch with a curse who manifests ghosts and a baker. Maybe she is also a murderer. I thought this was the best book out of the series. It has alot going on in it. Harper is my favorite character and I like to see if I come to the same conclusions as she did following the clues. This series is awesome.

What a fun read!

A greedy landlord may force the end of Willow Hollow if he has his way. Harper and her feisty familiar, Knox, are ready to fight to save the town if she can only get her glitchy magic to cooperate. When a murder occurs at a location where the bakery is catering, Harper becomes a prime suspect.

This is a spellbinding cozy! There are twists, romance, and lots of magic. I received a free copy but my review is honest and voluntary.

Cosy murder mystery

A cosy murder mystery with supernatural characters. It was too much of a mishmash of things all over t he place, started love stories, revenge, greed, betrayal. Why does no one ever tell Harper what's going on. Also what about the loans and the new town. This is supposed to be the last book in the series but leaves a lot of holes and unanswered questions.

What a fun and entertaining read. As usual Harper and her wonky magic have another murder to solve. Ghost run amok in Willow Hollow as Harper follows clues to not only help her solve the murder but to discover more about herself. The story is well written and the cast of characters are a delight. This series has been a lot of fun to read and I am looking forward to more.

The last book in a much enjoyed series and I appreciate that the author has a lot to pack in. A clever use of clues and many misleading bits of information thrown in. Lies and mixed messages all around. Yes, well written, fast paced, exciting but I actually found it more confusing and hard going but then, I have to admit that I am not the sharpest pencil in the bunch so that's probably just me.
