Aleksandr Gelyevich Dugin (Russian: Александр Гельевич Дугин, born 7 January 1962) is a Russian philosopher and activist. As a founder of the Russian Geopolitical School and the Eurasian Movement, Dugin is considered as one of the most important exponents of modern Russian conservative thought in the line of slavophiles. He earned his PhD in Sociology, in Political sciences, and also in Philosophy. During six years (2008 – 2014), he was the head of the Department of Sociology of International Relations in Sociological Faculty of Moscow State University. His publications include more than sixty books such as Foundations of Geopolitics, Fourth Political Theory, Theory of Multipolar World, Noomakhia (24 volumes), Ethnosociology. The influence of Dugin’s thought on modern day Russia (including political leaders) is recognized by not only his followers but also his philosophical and political opponents. His ideas are sometimes judged controversial or nonconformist but almost all agree that they are inspiring and original.

Alexander Dugin's 'Geopolitics of Postmodernity' is an ambitious and thought-provoking exploration of global political dynamics in the postmodern era. As one of Russia's most controversial political philosophers, Dugin weaves together geopolitical analysis with philosophical inquiry, creating a dense yet engaging text that challenges traditional Western perspectives.

The book examines how postmodernity reshapes the way we understand power, space, and culture in global politics. Dugin critiques the dominance of liberal democracy and Western hegemony, proposing alternative paradigms rooted in Eurasianism and multipolarity. His approach blends political science, cultural studies, and metaphysics, offering readers a multidimensional perspective on contemporary geopolitics.

One of the book's strengths lies in its ability to connect abstract philosophical ideas with concrete geopolitical scenarios. However, Dugin’s polarizing views, including his critiques of globalization and advocacy for civilizational pluralism, may alienate readers who are unacquainted with or critical of his ideological stances.

While the book is intellectually stimulating, it is not without flaws. The writing can be dense and occasionally opaque, reflecting Dugin's tendency to prioritize abstract theorizing over clear argumentation. Additionally, the text assumes a certain familiarity with postmodern philosophy and geopolitical theory, which might make it inaccessible to a broader audience.

Overall, 'Geopolitics of Postmodernity' is a challenging but rewarding read for those interested in alternative perspectives on global politics. While not without controversy, it provides valuable insights into the philosophical underpinnings of contemporary geopolitical shifts and invites readers to reconsider the paradigms shaping the world today.
