Rate this book
With a very active imagination and passion for all things history, University of California senior and veteran on the swim team Gabriel Mason often finds himself traveling to distant lands and times. There’s always one constant in Gabe’s a nameless man whose love completes Gabe’s soul. Gabe is waiting for someone special in his “real” life as well, and his best friend Phil is determined to find Gabe his elusive knight in shining armor. Nick Jackson, a university alum and Olympic swimming champion, immediately recognizes the quiet young man from the swim team and convinces Gabe to give them a chance at building something special. Considering the palpable attraction between them, Nick surprises himself by quickly agreeing to take their budding relationship slow. Unfortunately, real life is not a fantasy, and Nick’s demanding schedule as a professional athlete and Gabe’s obligations to the swim team and his degree make finding time to spend together difficult.

Trina is a scientist with a passion for history, music, and photography. She loves to travel and experience new places but is terminally shy around people she doesn't know. When the zombie apocalypse occurs, you'll want to find her because she's a crack shot, and promises to take out those nasty decomposing flesh-eating vermin before they have a chance to make you their snack. Her favorite aunt gave Trina a sultry romance novel to read while they were on vacation together back when Trina was in middle school and made her promise not to tell her mother. She's been hooked ever since! Her choices in reading and writing material are as diverse as her Apple Music library, which contains music from Mozart to Metallica. Her one concession is all stories must have a happily ever after ending-did we mention she's incurably romantic? She's the mother of a very strong-willed and sweet little boy who frequently makes her smile and grimace within seconds of each other. She firmly believes that the sweetness comes from her, and the other part is her husband's fault. She loves to hear from readers, and her greatest wish is that we all strive to achieve bigger dreams.

Since I'm starting a business with a couple of other people where I'm basically the entire art department (the drawing, the tee shirts, the slogans, the comic strips, etc.), my reading time is severely limited lately.

So, I'm looking for light, light reading. This book was definitely light (it damn near floated away), and fluffy, and unapologetically sweet. It was like chewing on pure sugar.

There is not one drop of conflict in this book. Nick and Gabe don't have any fights, no arguments, no misunderstandings, no nothing. It's just fairy tale love 24/7. I mean, Nick calls Gabe his "sweet prince". *blink blink*

I don't even have to comment on that. It speaks for itself.

This book was a quick read, which was exactly what I wanted.

Now I need to find some other speedy reads. If you guys know of any then drop your knowledge on me.

Review coming soon to The Armchair Reader

Full disclosure: I won this paperback from the lovely Trina Lane at GRL along with some of her other books and a hot picture of a cowboy torso in a sweet customized picture frame commemorating GRL 2012. Thanks again Trina! This is a very timely book especially considering the flack that Ian Thorpe has been taking lately.

Gabe is a college athlete – a swimmer in California who is in his senior year and he has set some goals for himself for the final year of his college swimming career. But Gabe is really a student of history and intends to get his Ph.D. He is not satisfied with his progress as a swimmer and he also is still a virgin – two things his best friend Phil wants to help him with. Although Gabe doesn’t make a secret of his sexuality and his family and friends know he is gay, he doesn’t flaunt it on the swim team. He dreams of a knight in shining armor who will sweep him off his feet. And he does this with some regularity in both his dreams and too frequently in distracting daydreams. He’s always disappointed that he can never see the face of his dream man. These little side trips into Gabe’s dreams are quite entertaining!

Finally his best friend, team mate and roommate Phil has had enough and decides that Gabe needs a night out. They go to a gay bar and while Gabe does see some attractive guys, he is very put off by the casual sex attitude of his dance partners. As he is leaving the bathroom, he is accosted by a guy who doesn’t want to take no for an answer and in swoops Nick. Gabe had noticed the man earlier, but now after hearing him talk and seeing him up close, he realizes that Nick is a former team mate and now professional and Olympic champion swimmer. It seems that Nick had noticed Gabe too

Nick is still quite friendly with Gabe and Phil’s coach since he is a graduate and of course he has brought honor and prestige to the program with his Olympic performance. He observes some practices and helps Gabe with his performance. He also wants to date Gabe and he is aware that Gabe is not going to be a fling. Gabe really likes Nick as well, but he is only interested in a real, long-term relationship and he is not going to go for any type of casual thing. Although he is very attracted to Nick, he doesn’t think that Nick will want to be with a virgin who is looking for true love. Nick is honest about his sexual past, but he admits that he is looking for something more as well. They agree to take things slow and see where it goes.

They try to see each other as often as possible, but with Gabe’s classes and his meet schedule and Nick’s practice and competition schedule, it’s not easy. Their relationship continued to grow and Gabe invites Nick home to his parent’s for the Christmas holidays. The whole Christmas story is one of my favorite parts of the book. I really liked Gabe’s family dynamic and Nick’s reactions.

As the season goes on for Gabe, his performance continues to improve and he makes the NCAA finals. Nick manages to get there to cheer him on along with Gabe’s family. However, an incident occurs just prior to Gabe’s race that will definitely have an impact on both Gabe and Nick – but whatever the outcome, we know that together they will be fine.

This was a very positive story that was sweet without being sappy. Gabe is a true romantic and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I honestly feel that there are more men out there like that then we realize and they are underappreciated. Nick is a stand-up guy and he does appreciate Gabe for everything that he is – athlete, scholar, friend, brother, son, lover. Phil is a perfect best friend for Gabe – opposite in some ways, but always has Gabe’s back. Gabe’s family is also well written – especially his relationship with his sister. It’s really nice to read a story that has a happy ending with minimal angst and drama to get us there.

University of California – Berkeley swim team member Gabe, is finishing his last year on the team and is excited to start the next step of his life. But he’s determined to go out at his personal best. He wouldn’t mind settling down a little bit either. Gabe lives so much in his head and his daydreams, that he almost misses a good thing when it’s right in front of him. His idol and former teammate Nick, convinces Gabe to give their relationship a try. What ensues is a blossoming romance amidst demanding swim and school schedules and life away from each other.

This story can best be described as a sweet and predictable love story. The main characters are very young and their character development within the story reflected that – they didn’t have any deep conflicts or issues to work through, they just needed a way to figure out how to be together and make it work. The story was a quick read and entertaining, but don’t expect a lot of twists and turns, or even a lot of emotional turmoil. And it’s good to note that there was A LOT of daydreaming that took place throughout the story. In my opinion, it was quite distracting, as I found that the daydreams didn’t relate/or move the story forward, as much as I was expecting.

The sex was not a main part of the story, and was very tame during the few times that it happened. Two hot athletic swimmers with wet bodies all the time, did not make as much magic between the pages as one would expect, but sex was not a huge part of this story. But your imagination could go wild for what could be the next installment of this story?

Out of four…

This was actually a very sweet story. I liked that the two of them did not in any way seem competitive with each other, and yet were in the same sport. It was very well written, and seemed just long enough. Had a nice HEA, and I liked the epilogue =)

I also liked the fact that their teammates (most of them) were inclusive in their behavior, as well as the coaches being supportive of two athletes with their alternative lifestyle, without seeming judgmental. Very refreshing, and I agree with the author's hopes in her preface that all college campuses can be this accepting.

I LOVE this book, read it over and over. It was so sweet and the characters were amazing, Phil & Gabe are the just the cutest. Nick is an amazing boyfriend and I love how caring and patient he was with Gabe about the waiting, they make a very sweet couple and the sex was definitely hot between them. You could just feel the chemistry between those two. I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves romance because their relationship was on point with everything. LOVE IT!

University of California senior and swimmer Gabriel Mason meets Nick Jackson, a university alum and Olympic swimming champion.

Gabriel and Nick get along great since meeting each other and the story develops around their relationship.

Phil , Gabriel's best friend and fellow swimmer, is a great secondary character.

This book is an easy read ... only thing honestly it needed a little bit less daydreaming ...

Sometimes you need a sweet story where nothing bad happens. You need something to remind you that not everyone in the world gets screwed over. You need to remember that drama is the exception, not the rule. When you are in the mood for such a story, I would like to recommend In Dreams He Came by Trina Lane.

“My sweet prince. I love you.”
Their noses slid beside each other, maintaining their connection. Gabe‟s spirit soared with Nick‟s admission.
“I love you too, my shining knight.”

The whole thing was definitely too sweet for my taste. What kinda guys talk like that?

Good story. It wasnt really emotional and I didn't really see character growth even though Nick kept insisting it happened. I skimmed through all the sex except their first time. I liked the family interaction. The story didn't really do anything for me but it could have been worse

This is the perfect book to read if you want something sweet for your brain. These two were adorable together, and yes, some of it was over the top sugar...but sometimes you just need that.

A very saccharine love story that feels almost coming of age. While not the main character, Phil deserves some "best supporting role" here. Will be looking of the next book of this (series?).
