World Fire was written as a prelude or prequel to Pyne's other Fire books, which were written 10-20 years prior. As such, World Fire didn't look forward to great explorations so much as it looked back on what was done (and done better). The editor's note at the beginning of World Fire is well written and engaging. I wish I could say that about the rest of the book. The writing is okay, the science is okay, but the book as a whole isn't engaging, entertaining and only mildly informative/educational.
