Neighbors in Love!

In company-owned rabbit-hutch apartments live tenants who can't afford to live anywhere else, and the apartment complex in which high-school girl Hatsumi Narita lives is ruled over by the rumor mongering, self-righteous Mrs. Tachibana. Get on Tachibana's bad side, and life becomes hell. When Hatsumi has to buy a pregnancy test because her popular sister Akane is late, Mrs. Tachibana's son, Ryoki, who used to bully Hatsumi as a kid, promises not to tell the world about Hatsumi's secret only if she becomes his slave. Suddenly Azusa, Hatsumi's protector in their youth, reappears to save her again! He's moving back into the neighborhood! Despite the budding romance between Hatsumi and Azusa, Ryoki has control over her through the secret that could ruin the lives of everyone in Hatsumi's family, and he hasn't forgotten who his slave is!

Find out why Hot Gimmick is one of the most talked-about new manga titles coming out of Japan! The Narita family is given the deep freeze when one of Mrs. Tachibana's spies glimpses our hapless heroine, Hatsumi, with her treacherous ex-"boyfriend," Azusa. Thinking they're being ostracized because she's turned down her former "master" Ryoki's advances, Hatsumi tracks Ryoki down and begs him to take her back...as his slave! But this only pisses lovesick Ryoki off, who actually wants Hatsumi to like him. He has another plan to win Hatsumi's good graces: he wants her brother, Shinogu, to be his private math tutor, and he wants his lessons to take place at the Narita's apartment! Shinogu doesn't like it...especially since Hatsumi is starting to fall for Ryoki!

Least fav volume so far but still good. Just felt that this volume didn't really advance it only reflected on what's already happened, and duplicated similar instances.

It's been quite some time since I last read this series--perhaps ten years or more--so I didn't remember that Akane and Subaru's relationship gets going this early on. The scene in this volume where they exchange toys from the game center is one of my favorite parts of the whole story.

Shinogu is tipping his hand far earlier than I recalled, too. Though considering how dense Hatsumi is, it isn't like she'd interpret as anything out of the ordinary for a sibling. (not very convincing, but this isn't the first manga I've read where the heroine is oblivious to signals as least as overt as those.)

It's hard when you dislike the male lead. Ryoki is a dick, but he stands up for Hatsumi again and again. If only he could treat her better, but he seems simply incapable of that.

It's harder when the female lead who you follow around is almost as disliked. She makes decisions for herself yes, but she irritates me at times. She bounces from one feeling to the next with not much emotional change.

All that said, I still want to know more. I want to see Ryoki soften.

Honestly at this point, I'm reading for her brother. His character is far more interesting.

Agghiacciante davvero!

Ormai l'ho cominciata e la finisco. Ma non promette niente di buono.

OK, I have to concede that by book four I am not only still reading this, but am likely to see it through to the end. Thank goodness I'm getting these at the library and haven't spent a cent on them. Sheesh. This must be the equivalent of hitting your thumb with a hammer because in a weird way it begins to feel good after awhile...? (No idea, I heard that analogy once and have never tried it. Don't LOOK at me like that!)

More drama unfolding atm. I think Azusa is catching feelings towards Hatsumi and he’s confuse whether he should go with the revenge plan or be with Hatsumi. Ryoki also was deeply in love with Hatsumi and really wants her to be his gf. While Akane also develop feelings with the otaku kinda guy. Forget his name my bad. Last but not least.. yo Ryoki already make a move at the end towards Hatsumi.. although he’s not her real bro still.. it seems like sweet home Alabama all the way 💀

This love Quartet really is between a dude who almost got her gang raped and wanted to film the ordeal to blackmail her dad, a dude who regularly dismissed the word no and loves sexually assaulting her AND her adoptive brother who she doesn’t know isn’t blood related to her as if that makes it less incestuous

In volume 4 the complex turns against Hatsumi and her family. Ryoki comes up with a plan to for their family to win back favor. Even though Azusa has betrayed her, Hatsumi is still in love with him but is battling with herself.

I love the artwork that goes into these! So much detail, so much feeling!

Hatsumi, I love you, but you can be such a stupid bitch. Why do you bother with Asuza, THE PSYCHOPATH WHO TRIED TO HAVE YOU GANG-RAPED?????

Ryoki is still an insecure bitch. NO SURPRISE THERE. He is seriously incapable of being nice.

Still entertaining, hence 4 stars.

At this point, I began to realize the main love interest is a child that is in fact a victim of grooming and seems to genuinely not understand consent in a way that is almost sad.

Honestly, I give up on Hatsumi and her ill-advised 'romantic' interests. I'm much more interested in Akane and Subaru - I want this manga to now shift over to them as they are far more interesting, and not as creepy (don't ruin this Aihara!!). Oh, and please let Shiguru not be related to Hatsumi, because otherwise there's some seriously incesty feelings going on here...

I much prefer this volume to previous volumes. Hatsumi is still stupid for having lingering feelings for Azusa and developing feelings for Ryoki, but at least this volume spends a lot of time not focusing on them, and we get to spend time with Akane and Subaru who are really cute together.

While I would be happier with a less abuse, I am crazy about the realism in this series. I am really enjoying the progression and how the author included small moments in volume 1 or 2 or 3 that are being developed now. I also like the internal struggle of the female protagonist and I like that she makes harmful but extremely likely decisions. When I read this series, I think "there are people like this in this world" and " I can easily imagine other girls her age making the same mistakes" rather than "I like/dislike this character". I am still impressed.

You know... I'm really kinda pulling for Shinogu on this one... as awkward and weird as that seems. And UGH.... I'm over the Azusa thing... why do shojo mangaka always do this... make the despicable, worthless guy the "seriously misunderstood" guy who really isn't as awful as he always comes across. And Hatsumi is a god damn moron for even remotely caring about him after what he tried to do. Hashtag TRUTH god damn it!

Ugh! Azusa you're such an idiot. Even after deceiving her, she still cares about you. You just had to say stupid stuff. Ugh! Wow! Ryouki is being pretty unexpected. Hatsumi is definitely starting to have feelings for Ryouki.
I'm still confused though if Shinogu is really a sibling of Hatsumi and Akane. He did say he's inlove with his sister... Hatsumi. Sister Complex? XD

Even though I low key have the hots for Kyouki, there are a bunch of red flags in his interactions with Hatsumi. It may be "cute" in a manga but damn, that would not fly with me.
