I can't imagine a world without Tron. If you are a programmer, you feel all the fellings with this movie. You can understand the world of the programming, the stuff that we have to deal since we touch the computer, and since I was a little I was in this world, with programs, clusters, users, software, hardware and all the informatics things. Love Tron so much!

This is the only adaptation of Alfonsi's I have read and, based on her other books, is likely to remain the only one.

The only problem I have with Alfonsi's contribution to the Tron universe is that when she veers from the movie, inserting her own touch, she pounds it in, for example with Castor's top hat and tails which is utterly ridiculous in such a world. This isn't Alice in Wonderland. This is a dark technological world that doesn't have time for such silly touches. The way Michael Sheen played Castor fit easily into this world. Alfonsi's descriptions do not, especially not the way she describes the destruction of the End of Line Club, which seems needlessly complicated when it was handled much more simply in the movie. That's not to say that Alfonsi should have parroted the movie line by line, description by description, but some things just don't fit. However, there are instances such as with Bartik the Anarchist, in which she adds more layers, more depth to this world. There is that, and while it doesn't come often, it, and other little touches such as her getting the voice of Kevin Flynn, and by extension Jeff Bridges, down so well, makes it a pleasurable read.

And there's a good laugh to be had at the end of the novel. In order to read the final chapters, you have to go to the website address provided. The way it's handled is an insightful commentary on how we're doing more and more on computers and it's only going to increase. Maybe one day, at the rate we're going, there will actually be a Grid. We're not that far off.

Fun fact: The last few chapters are not included in the book, as they were originally intended to be accessed on Disney's website via a QR code, and are now unavailable as that page has been taken down. So if you want to finish this book, you'll have to go digging to see if you can find an archived copy of the webpage. Probably a clever reference/tie-in at the time but just frustrating now.

A modest young adult adaptation of an epic movie. I wish they made a full blown novel because there is so much that I would have loved to have learned about the characters thoughts and feelings.

But Disney as well as other companies are shorting the film novelization and there isn't much to go on, particularly in fear that they might reveal too much about the sequels and other tie-ins like the video game and the TV show.

It also bothers me that this story doesn't have an ending, at least not anymore. Apparently in order to get the ending you had to scan a special section that would send you to a website that revealed the ending. OK I guess, but now the website is gone.

A weak adaptation. B-

End of the book is the letdown!

The book doesn't reach the end of the movie. It stops short, then does something the company might have thought was cute, but they don't seem to have maintained (it's been how many years now? So I get it, but scanning a QR code and get a virus warning is not a cool feeling!)

The book is essentially the same as the movie, with a few subtle differences, mostly what I noticed was things that were able to be clarified and highlighted because of the format. Most notably the Sentries, and various other types of characters. The book gives the feeling of a well defined universe.

As a huge fan of the 2010 film, I was interested to read this to see if there were any major differences. There really aren’t which makes me to want believe this was probably written as an adaptation to the film after the fact. It’s a short and easy read so still recommend it - however it probably wasn’t the best piece of literature to indulge in when it comes to the Tron universe.

I really liked this; I'd probably give it 4.4 stars. I think the actual movie (which was disappointing for me) might have negatively clouded my judgment of this book. I recommend it for a Tron fan.

Nicely done, simple book for children that serves for me as an adult, to reacquaint myself with the Tron Universe.

Good Junior novel, really sad that the last few chapters have to be read on a website that isn’t hosted by the company anymore, and has to be accessed via the Internet Archive Wayback Machine.

Sam Flynn is the rebellious 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn, a computer programmer who disappeared when Sam was just a child. When Sam looks into his father’s disappearance, he finds himself pulled into the same world of brutal programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for almost 25 years. Along with Kevin’s loyal confidante, Quora, Kevin Flynn and his son Sam must embark on a life-and-death voyage across a visually-stunning cyber universe to put an end to the evil Clu and his reign of this digital world.

My thought
The story is about a father, Kevin Flynn, who owned a software company and his son Sam. During Sam’s childhood he was told stories about a video game his father invented called Tron. Suddenly one day his father disappeared.

When he was about 27 years old Sam started looking further into the disappearance of his father. The family had owned an arcade when his father disappeared but the store closed down. One night Sam went there and saw that the game called Tron was still on. He went to play the game and found a secret room behind it. He sat down and pressed a button and suddenly he was in the Tron video game. In this computer world Sam finds his father. His father is the creator of this game and he has a special disc that the bad guys Zuse and CLU want. This disc opens the only portal back into the real world. Eventually Zuse and CLU the enemies get the disc from Kevin. With the help of Sam they regain possession of the disc but they don’t know if they will make it through the portal.

The setting is in the video game Tron. This is a game that hasn’t been played by anyone because the arcade closed after Kevin’s disappearance. Sam and his father are stuck in the game and can not get out. If this setting was different than the book would not be as futuristic. The name Tron sounds futuristic.

Summary
The story behind this book is about a young boy whose father disappears and years later that same boy finds out that his father was trap in a computer/game world. The young boy must fight inside the game as well to try to save his father. Pretty good book and pretty good movie as well.

Reading level
I would recommend this book because it is a good and easy read. I also think children would like it because it is a very action packed story with motorcycle stunts and gut wrenching chases through the city’s grid.

When I see a movie I like, I typically like to read a companion book about it as well. Fortunately, TRON: LEGACY does have a book or two out about it. But as all too often happens, the novelization seems to be a quick adaptation of the screenplay, and was released as a 118-page junior novel. In a publicity stunt around the film's theatrical release, the final three chapters and epilogue were withheld from the book and instead posted online originally at disneybookstron.com. Disney took down that site in 2013, but the final chapters can now be found (as of this writing anyway) in a web archive at http://web.archive.org/web/2011010402..., with the introductory web page at http://web.archive.org/web/2011010402....

Those who have seen the movie will notice a few minor deviations of the story in this junior novel. Another reviewer or two has chalked those up to the author, Alice Alfonsi. But being a developing screenwriter myself and having studied the craft, I think many if not all of these deviations (including within some lines of dialogue) are from a less-than-final version of the script that Alfonsi probably used in writing this book. This makes the junior novel worth reading for serious students of film and screenwriting, to see what was changed and try to appreciate the reasons for such changes. It's mainly why I bought the book.

Enjoying the movie, I wanted to give this book four, even five stars. But the clipped nature of the narrative and deviations from the movie kept jerking me out of the story enough to cause me to give it three stars. While meant for younger independent readers, this junior novel can nonetheless be a decent, quick read for anyone in between viewings of the movie.

FATAL ERROR.
To reboot and recover lost data, scan below.
If scan fails, visit http://disneybooks.com/tron
If issue persists, contact your systems administrator.

Yah, karena aku malas nyari lanjutannya en toh sudah nonton filmnya, lupakan saja. Off to next book...

Personalmente, amo Tron.

I don’t know why I read ‘book of the film’ books, they’re always lacking from the movie (If the movie is adapted from the book that’s another story...). I loved the Tron movies though and will stick to watching them. The most annoying thing with this book was the final chapters are missing - there is a QR code to scan to get the chapters but alas the website has been archived. After browsing the internet I managed to locate them using the wayback machine as there didn’t seem to be a copy anywhere else...

Tron is a great book about a boy named Sam playing pranks on his fathers business for 20 years because his father has been lost, so Sam goes to his fathers old arcade and sees a Tron machine and moves it and there is his dads old lab. Sam hits a button and instantly the portal teleports him into his fathers game................ I'm not going to tell you the rest. If you want to find out read the book it's a great science fiction or fantasy book

Fun novel, although it is not well written as the "Star Wars" stories by Jude Watson. Still, it has some good descriptions and adds some minor details about the magnifecent world of "Tron". Unfortunately, the book is unfinished - obviously the publishers did not want to spoil the ending of the movie and let the novel finish at the most interesting part.

As a non-techie, I resent having to scan a barcode to read the ending. Still, it fits the theme of entering the new computer world. Learned nothing the movie didn't cover, which was thin in the first place. Still, I should be ashamed, really- it's for little kids.
