He recommends that individuals start with these three exercises for the first month and then add to this base. Following the thorough explanation of each of the exercises, Furey provides several different fitness plans that can be started at various levels of achievement. He also incorporates simple fitness regimes that can be done anywhere, you do not have to have a fancy gym membership or luxury equipment. All I can say is Matt Furey is a crazy man. You have to exercise extreme caution when performing some of the exercises in his book.

I found out about Matt & his conditioning exercises by reading about some workouts that professional wrestlers do before they go "on stage". It was the Hindu Squats that led me to Combat Conditioning. And yes, you will be TORN UP after you do a few sets of those.

I will note, that some of the exercises in this book hark back to my rowing days - the mountain climbers, v-ups, bear crawling, dolphins (torso lift), and the dreaded WALL SIT.

I just noticed my review is for the “cartoon” edition. I have no experience with that specific edition; the one I have (and what this review is for) contains pictures of Matt demonstrating these exercises.

I like Furey's exercises and overall perspective on health and conditioning. I get his daily email as well. I don't really care for his politics or some of his over the top sales pitches, but he is spot on with the exercise regimen. His philosophy of body weight exercises completely changed my position on physical conditioning and training. In fact, my current website title, www.brainbackbend.com, is inspired by one of the three exercises in the Royal Court: Hindu Pushups, Hindu Squats, and Bridge (backbend). For my website, I took the concept of the physical back bend and applied an academic dimension and metaphor to it.

This is a great book to get you back in shape and teach you discipline. It grows with you as you progress in your work outs as well as you grow mentally. I just started a week ago and can see progress already. My son has been working with it for 2 months and is doing very well both physically and mentally. I am still reading and learning from this book and plan to continue going through it over and over again.

I don't think that there is a person on this plannet who couldn't benifit from reading this book. It's a break down on fitness and health that will really rock your world.
