I enjoyed this book just as much as the ones before it. I admire how Cain is a woman of her word. She has morals and sticks to them no matter how much money might be made if she ignored those morals. (Selling booze as opposed to drugs, for example). She is an anti-hero that I could get behind. No random killing for her or her family. If someone is in their sights, they KNOW they're guilty. Her darkness is balanced by her wonderful romantic and deep love for Emma. Thank goodness they got a second chance! (I chuckle every time Emma calls Cain 'mobster')
With this book comes the development of another relationship and the growth of another. It isn't just Cain and Emma who get to explore their love. I think that's so important. Especially in this day and age.
There is darkness here, but light also. Love, light, death, new life, new beginnings and justice of the most brutal kind. But there is loyalty, confusion, settings that make you sweat and settings that make you want to order a beer.
I am so glad there are seven books in this series, because I want to consume them all!
I thought the Sept books were pretty good. The Casey series is phenomenal!
