I have received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads.
I was not sure how to rate this book because it felt like a draft. If left as is, the novel is readable and has a few enjoyable moments, but I would not be able to recommend it. The story has potential, but the characters and situations are sketches that need to be filled in.
"Angel Unawares, a novel" is set in a TV news room in 1983. It's about a young woman news video tape editor who has lost hope, and the unusual man who gave it back to her. It is avalible on Amazon.
I was send this book by Carol Jackson, the author as part of the Good Reads Giveaway.
I looked forward to receiving it as I like to give books a chance that I might not normally pick for myself so from reading the blurb I thought I would enjoy it.
Carol's writing style is wonderful, engaging and informative. For someone like me that doesn't have any experience or ideas about how television is filmed, edited and produced, the book was very informative.
I just have to say though that at times I felt Carol would tap into a story line but then leave it for a few chapters. She would eventually come back to it and develop further but I felt at the time it left too much open, too many unanswered question.
There seemed to be story lines that didn't lead to anything, like the story line of Lee visiting the church and his conversation with the nun. Maybe that is just because it is a different style of writing to what I normally read.
Above all it was a good book about overcoming fears and disappointments. Learning to trust and live again.
It tells about second chances and getting on with life.
I received this book free through Groodread's first reads giveaway. And I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. I wasn't sure if I would because it's different than most books I read. It's nice to step out of the comfort circle every now and then though. Carol Jackson did a good job and her message, well her message meant a lot to me. I'd highly recommend this book.
