This is kind of like a fresh start. Quickly recapping the events of the last run yet the writer/artist stay largely the same.

The first part is a recap. Then we get into a story about a monster under a bridge. Kids go missing and Sarah decides to find out why. It ends in a interesting way with a satisfying twist. Second half is about a robot cyborg chick and Witchblade teaming up. It's okay, feels more like selling her book than a actual story.

Overall, a decent restart to the series. Art helps to make it better, though he improves so much since then on Sunstone. Can probably just jump in here but having prior knowledge will help. Still a 3 out of 5 for a good time.

More drama setting everything back to normal. Gleason refuses the advances of an almost naked Sara? Actually, no, they DO go at it. All is good in the world. 'You're a good man, Patrick Gleason.' Boring AF, but a good man. Right after sex, they get a smoke? No, they solve a case of missing kids. Thankfully, Aphrodite IV is hot that it kept me interested in the last half of the volume where she makes Sara look like a newbie.

Absolutely fantastic artwork as the character is placed in her greatest peril yet.

I picked up this comic because Stjepan Šejić is the artist, and because I find the consept of Witchblade interesting. I've never read anything of the series before, but I know of it from I don't know where!

ok, to the album.
This story starts in the middle of the current Witchblade's life, so there's a lot of characters and relationships that I don't know anything about, BUT there is a neat little ''this has happened'' in the beginning of the album that gave me the bulletpoints, so it wasn't a huge problem that we were thrown into this world out of nowhere.
The author is also rather good at dropping small pieces of the story as we go along, giving just enough information that we don't feel lost, but not getting sucked into the backstory as I've seen many other authors do.

The art is... not what I expected. It is good, and I see Stjepan's style in it, but it is crude compared to what I'm used to. It is also digital, while I prefer a more cartoon-ish artstyle. It isn't bad, though. I don't think I could ever call Sejic's work bad.

So will I be reading on? Yes. I will be honest and say I'm not sure what the estory is in this arc yet, but I am interested in reading on. Part of that, is the fact that the MC is a mom to a toddler. You don't see that many places, and so I want to see how it impacts her life.

Ron Marz and Stjepan Sejic continue their fantastic Witchblade run with the "Witchblade: Redemption" volumes. I'm not sure why they renumbered this instead of continuing onto Witchblade volume 9, the creative team is the same and there doesn't seem too much different. New readers would still be better served to read Witchblade Volume 1 by Marz instead of here in order to get to know the characters and status quo.

The first issue in this volume is a quick recap of what's been happening in the series, as well as Sara saying goodbye to Dani as she flies off into her own Angelus series. Sara's sister, Julie, also moves in with Sara and her daughter Hope. After this issue, there is a 2 issue story involving missing children and a troll who lives under a bridge. It's another supernatural detective drama, but it's a very good story with great artwork and a cool twist.

Following that, there is a 3-issue story involving the cyborg Aphrodite IV, who battles Sara while trying to assassinate one of her creators. It's another good story while also serves to promote Aphrodite's series. The character is interesting, so maybe I'll check that out at some point.

While there isn't too much development in the overall Witchblade story here, these 2 short stories are a welcome break after the Witchblade War in the previous volume. I really enjoyed them both.

The start of Sara's somewhat redemption arc, a kind of soft jumping on point now that she is back to normal and in possession of the full Witchblade once again. Marz manages to expertly navigate setting up some new adventures/mysteries for Gleason and Pezzini to get entangled in, dealing with the repercussions from the last big arc, and catching any potentially new readers up on the story. There's plenty of action in this one, and as an unexpected bonus Aphrodite IV makes an appearance as well. Sejic's artwork isn't really my cup of tea, often coming across a bit rushed in places, but I can't deny that it isn't eye-catching. Another solid entry in the Witchblade saga then.

As usual, we get some beautiful artwork from Stjepan Šejić. It looked rushed or unfinished in a few places and sometimes the anatomy of the characters seemed off, something that to me it looks like he fixed in the last years, but in the end it's a treat for the eyes.

About the story in this volume, well...we don't get too much development about the world of witchblade. In the first issue of the volume we get a wrap up to the story from the previous volume/arc "War of the Witchblades". Dani leaves for New Orleans and we'll get to see more of her in the Angelus spin off series. One of the most interesting moments of the volume is at the end of the first issue where Sara Pezzini meets some of the previous bearers of the witchblade. It's a new concept introduced in the series, from what i remember, and it will be interesting to see how it will be used in the future.

After that we get two short stories. The first one is relevant only for the evolution of the love relation between Sara and her partner Gleason. Oh, and we also get to see some cool drawings of some ancient creature.

The one I find most interesting is the second one, because Sara crosses paths with Aphrodite IV. She's a cyborg assassin from the Top Cow Universe who Sara met in an earlier issue, they had a little fight, destroy some public property and after Aphrodite IV escapes Sara gets into some trouble with the police department. Sara manages to track her down at last and find out who the mysterious green haired attacker is. Of course we again get to see some eye catching fighting drawn by Stjepan Šejić and I think this is where his style shines best.

All in all a fun read and I'm looking forward to see what happens in the next volume and when we'll get to see Aphrodite IV next.

The art: Not Sejic's best work, but it's still good. I've always liked his style. It can be a little uneven here, with some parts having a lot of detail (e.g. Witchblade armour) and other parts looking rushed (e.g. hair and faces). There are a bunch of really great scenes that look gorgeous.

The writing: If you've read Ron Marz's Witchblade before, you'll already know the style and quality. It's a supernatural cop mystery where the protagonist has some supernatural abilities of her own. It's decent writing that scratches a specific itch for me. Nothing outstanding in this particular volume (I loved the War of the Witchblades arc that came before this), but I do like Sara's interactions with Aphrodite IV. It got me interested in Aphrodite's character and I may look into her solo title. I'm not feeling anything for Sara and Gleason as a couple, to be honest.

If you're new to the Witchblade world, this is an alright place to start, but I'd recommend starting at Witchblade vol. 1 rather than this Witchblade Redemption stuff because, so far, this hasn't drawn me in as much. Starting here gives you a little background but you won't be able to appreciate what's going on as much. It's a good series though. I mean, it's kept me following through 8 trade paperbacks + Angelus + this volume. And I'm gonna keep going.

Story-wise, there's a lot of resetting going on, following the War of the Witchblades arc. The adventures feel like they're one-offs, which is nice after long, epic arcs. The second half of the volume slides out of the supernatural, the normal theme for these stories, into a more sci-fi angle (crossing over, it seems, into other parts of the Top Cow universe). As usual, Sejic's art is beautiful, if a little rough in spots.

Not a huge fan of the art, but the story's OK. I liked the last Witchblade series I read better.
