I learned much when I read this book soon after its 1993 publication, and I was glad recently to find a copy in the Franklin Square (NY) public library. Its focus is then-recent events in Czechoslovakia, Hungary, and Poland, explaining that this is Central Europe, not Eastern Europe. Chapter Seven, "God and the Devil," interested me the most because it discusses the role of the Catholic church and the church's faithful. Because the author wrote before 1993, he does not treat of more recent and startling controversies. He does not mention Radio Maryja and Tadeusz Rydzyk. However, on page 241 he relates several ways of the domineering clerics, such as shaming those who do not go to confession at Easter.

I am searching for a 2019 or 2020 book describing life in Poland.
