Mark W. Tiedemann has published twelve novels---three in the Asimov's Robot Universe series, /Mirage, Chimera /and/ Aurora/---three in his own Secantis Sequence, /Compass Reach, Metal of Night, /and /Peace & Memory/---as well as stand-alones /Realtime, Hour of the Wolf/ (a Terminator novel), and /Remains/, plus /Of Stars & Shadows/, one of the Yard Dog Doubledog series, Logic of Departure, and the historical novel Granger's Crossing. As well, he has published over seventy-five short stories, all this between 1990 and 2023. /Compass Reach/ was shortlisted for the Philip K. This is a book based on the The Terminator movie franchise. This takes place after the second movie. There were several books produced after that movie and the series sort of took their own path. This book is part of the divergent series. In this one John and Sarah uncover that Skynet still might be around and looking to exist.

I really wanted to like this book more as it has taken me years to track it down as prices for it are exorbitant. Imagine my surprise when my online library had a copy of it. Overall I liked the idea of this book. I loved the idea that the author was saying that Skynet is inevitable and John and Sarah are just delaying it. The problem was the execution. It was really dry. First off I can tell the author is an intelligent person. But he sort of lost me with all the science and the techno babble. I also thought his portrayal of the established characters were off. They were cardboard characters that evoked no emotion. In this world I want that from the cyborgs not from the humans. I really disliked the finale too. We have two different aspects of the finale. One is a flash forward where the action basically happened off page. The other is that something happened but we don't know what the result of this action will be. Seriously I devoted my time for that.

There have been some really good books written about this franchise. This is not one of them. It had the essence of the franchise but it did not deliver on it. If you are expecting a direct media tie-in book from the movies this is not it. I would say this is more of an alternate universe story.

man this was the hardest book to find in physical form but honestly I'm the most disappointed in it. it did have potential in the beginning but at some point I just got so bored. then it got interesting towards the end and well it ended. I would like to say this book has no indication in the back that it was a sequel to the other Terminator 2 John Connor Chronicles books. I was surprised when they mention jade and eve. it's not a bad thing I just was shocked bc I thought it was only a sequel to the movie. second I know this is a science fiction book but man the science talk got me so lost and I wished it was explained a little better or didn't take most of the page. there is more to say but I to tired to write it all down. sadly I have to rate this my least favorite one since reading all Terminator books

This book was enjoyable! It was an interesting follow up to the New John Connor Chronicles trio, but going into the book I was a still confused as I didn't remember half of the people that they kept bringing back from Evil Hour. One good thing was that I felt that this book had one of the better depictions of Sarah. Though overall, I would definitely agree with other reviews with how this book was a little wordy and a bit too much focused on the actual science of everything. Though at the same time, I felt that things weren't explained enough, like how the whole ending portion didn't seem that clear with the time jump that John experienced or what actually happened to the TX-A. I feel like it could have just had a more definite ending, it seemed fairly rushed and while everything did get "resolved" it also felt like it didn't and I was left wanting more. Overall, it was a really enjoyable book. I liked how he did all of the characters and did fit in nicely into that universe.

It's worth reading if you're a Terminator fan, but it's really too wordy. Too much techno babble and not enough action.
