G.K. De Rosa has been an avid reader from a very young age. In fact, before she could even read, she tried fooling everyone into thinking that she could. At the precocious age of two, while living in Italy, she had memorized an entire children’s book in Italian and expertly turned the pages at the exact right moments of the story. As she grew up, she always enjoyed literature, no doubt having been instilled with a love of story telling from her early years in Catholic school where she was greatly influenced by exemplary teachers who taught her the value of English and Literature. Though she did not pursue writing in college and instead went for the more traditional route of International Business inspired by her love for travel and all things foreign, after a move to New York City, she found her creative writing side calling once again. She began writing a restaurant review blog, City Lights and Tasty Bites, detailing her other passion – food! The hectic hustle and bustle of the city, combined with long commuting times gave her the opportunity to spend more time reading and rekindled a lost love. After reading countless books in many diverse genres over the two years in New York City, and returning to her home state of Florida, she felt compelled to write something for herself. She had always felt particularly drawn to Young Adult novels and having been an eternal romantic at heart, a fantasy romance was a natural choice. She currently lives in South Florida with her real life Prince Charming and their fur baby, Nico the German Shepherd.
I really enjoyed this book. It's the bachelorette meets fantasy with shifters and all that good stuff ! I'm super invested in this ending and it makes you root for the alpha hole lmfao . The ended up this book literally made my sigh in frustration because now I have to wait for book 2 come out !
Will her ex make a guest appearance ? Will more people get hurt ? Who knows ?! But I'm all for it !
The bachelor meets supernatural? I was entertained by this story enough to finish this and I’m going to pick up the next but it reads very cheesy personally but I do love me some good trash.
I’ve enjoyed all the previous Hitched series. This one has me a tiny bit confused because I’m trying to decipher when this takes place amidst all the other books. Deacon made me question it. That’s just how my brain works…I need that order 🤷🏻♀️.
Disclaimer: I’m going to review it without spoilers at the top, then create a line and anything below that line will be spoilers. Do with that what you will.
Like many first books, this has a lot of potential. I’m definitely going to continue the series, but I’m also verrrry on the fence with the book too. It’s good, but the author has built so many characters into the book that I don’t know what direction the series will take.
Here’s what I liked: - I love the supernatural Bachelorette dating show premise. I’ve read similar books and for some reason they’re just consistently enjoyable even though I dislike reality tv. - I love how this isn’t just one supernatural involved. There’s a wide array of them and I’m interested to hear more. - Loved the images of each man. Wish it had been in the front vs the back. But it’s nice to visualize them. I don’t necessarily agree with all of them, but the characters that I really enjoy, I’d say I agree with their men. Minus Fallon. The author got him fucked up. - The book is slow paced, but I enjoy this because it’s not Instalove. As the FMC says, instalust not Instalove. This author almost pisses you off at times because she really leaves you hanging or teases you so you stay in the unknown. - I skimmed the synopsis so I don’t know if this was in it but the thriller aspect of the book is enjoyable. It’s bachelorette with both a supes twist and some suspense! Like you don’t even know who she’s into and not into because she’s just making on all of them. Is this a reverse harem or is she gonna end with one guy? Who tf knows. - Knox. Have a love-hate relationship with him but they’ve developed him well. Jack too. - Aspen doesn’t fuck around and she’s not gonna sugarcoat or skirt things. - Favorite quote: - I slowly shook my head. “For some reason she seems to like you. Stupid bitch.” // died laughing at this - Giving hints but not announcing a lot of what the guys are. This is a fun twist of guessing!
What I didn’t like: - Slade can just fuck right off. I really hate the guy and I hate how much book time he gets. - Aspen “not wanting to be supernatural racist”…but she is. Or just hypocritical at times. I get it’s for the plot but some of her choices just irk me. - I was honestly disappointed that most of the guys that got kicked off got kicked off. There was so much character interactions and really only one made sense to kick him off. The rest, I felt like she was developing something with. But also, that’s reality tv for ya. - There’s so many men that it’s really hard to keep track of who’s who.
I know with all my complaints, especially in the spoilers section, someone might be like how is this a 3.5 star book then? And I think it’s because the author is purposely irking the readers in a lot of the situations. It’s fucked up but also that’s the point too. Some people have to be shady for a good plot to develop.
SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT ———————————
- Again, Slade. I HATE him. And the hot springs scene and Aspen being like “He basically assaulted me. I should be mad but I’m not” logic gives me the ick. No, he DID assault you. And continues to use his powers against you without you knowing what he is. You shouldn’t like him. The way authors romanticize their FMC’s not having control bothers me so much. Plus his “sloppy seconds” comment just shows how much he doesn’t actually respect Aspen. This author better make Aspen realize this at some point or I’m gonna rage. - The development of Knox and some of their past encounters being surfaced. I realllllly am liking Knox and want him to be happy 🥹 - Rejecting Knight sucked. He opened up to Aspen and she essentially shit all over him for doing it. I know people have limitations but he’s finally got a choice potentially and she’s like bye. Hated it. - The scene where Jack was panicking and confessing to Aspen was INTENSE. Like the panic and trauma really came through and I felt terrible for the guy. I get why Aspen was the way she was, but oof she was kind of cold hearted too.
Decided to read this book after watching the authors TikTok video describing it as a enemies to lovers between Aspen and Knox (two wolf shifters) It’s nothing like that it’s actually about bachelorette remake with a wolf shifter as the main lady and 12 different supernaturals. Not well written and was very slow.
Honestly, the premise for this was very different and that drew me in. Supernatural beings, and reality dating show?
Drama, romance, and mystery looming overhead? It drew me in, and was overall a very easy read. The story ended from far where I thought it would, it seemed things had really picked up the pace and I thought I was more in the middle of the book rather than the end.
Perhaps I was too engaged, or perhaps it was really just that easy of a read.
Some of the characters were easily likable from the start, however some definitely suffered by the overwhelming amount of characters, which made it more clear they were more of a background character to be voted off, which was a bit disheartening as I was intrigued by some that were removed.
We are as much in the dark about the supernatural species each character is for a bit as Aspen was, however painstakingly easy to guess some of them.
One character suffered from this, as his felt more like it was held back for a big reveal towards the end but if you’ve already guessed such it’s not quite a surprise and ruins the moment.
It also didn’t help that his name was shared with a popular tv character of the same species, so the name alone gave it away for me.
Not as much smut/sex as I would have thought would be written. Which is nice, the teases and everything do well to keep you on edge but if it was all smutty the plot would definitely suffer. It’s very good balance in that aspect I saw.
Now the back few pages on the ebook at least, it does show you the characters sheets with face claims. Which made me laugh, it felt very wattpad to see that there. Considering some were even faces I have certainly seen used before for such an aspect.
I definitely prefer unique character arts.
Overall, very decent book some nittpicking I could do but that’s it, it’s nitpicking. The ending did leave me wanting to read more and perhaps I’ll look into the next book.
After all, I am certainly rooting for one of the men and aspen to be together, and have since his introduction. Enemies (if you will) to lovers is a trope I am a sucker for.
Aspen's heart has been ripped apart and stomped on when her fated mate rejected her in a brutal way. Her bestie convinces her to audition for a reality TV show, "Hitched," where she and twelve men are on an island together, and she slowly eliminates them until only one remains to be her "true love". She really didn't want to, but figured it would help to get her mind off of what happened, and maybe it would be fun! What she DIDN'T take into consideration was the show's "curse." Weird things happen, and she can't help but feel endangered.
Oh, and if THAT'S not bad enough? Her fated mate's identical twin brother is one of the contestants. She has to see his face every day, practically causing her to have PTSD attacks from what she went through.
She gets along with so many of the contestants, and you can't help but root for multiple guys to be with her (even though it's sort of obvious who she'll end up with). I'm actually used to reading RH (reverse harem), so it's a bit hard not wanting her to have multiple guys! Some of them are so sweet! Others, however, may not be what they seem and may have ulterior motives for being on the show.
The only thing I noticed about this book is that it does mention Aspen overhearing a conversation about a certain character, but then later, when someone brings it up, she's shocked to hear it. I think the author forgot she already made Aspen informed of it because she wasn't pretending to be surprised. I don't dock any points from that, though - it's a noticeable thing, but it doesn't take away from the story.
SWEET REVENGE (The Hitched Live Series Book 1) by G.K. DeRosa is the first full length book in the series. I read The Prequel: REJECTED MATE which was an introductory story for The Hitched Live Series. That ended with poor Aspen who's only half-wolf, being rejected by her fated mate. Being unable to shift to her wolf meant the possibility of her having baby wolves that also couldn't shift. Her mate was an Alpha and heir to his father's throne. His father wouldn't have his son stay mated with this lowly half-human, who could not even shift into her wolf. Kole's a cold-hardhearted monster in how he rejects his mate, Aspen. She couldn't stand the pain of the rejection, and her heart was shattered. So, she packed her bags and left the Blood Moon Pack behind.
Aspen returned to the human world and wallowed in self-pity at her mom's place. She finally forced herself out of bed and started looking for a job & an apartment. Her roommate was encouraging and talked her into auditioning for a TV show. Its name was Hitched Live and a supernatural reality dating show. She'd be the one & only female among twelve gorgeous supernatural bachelors. Her roommate said it would be the perfect revenge to get back at her ex-mate. He would see twelve men vying for her attention and heart. The fact one of those handsome men was her ex's twin brother, Knox, would make it better yet. She hadn't counted on the mystery & intrigue! Of course, there is another book after this one: WICKED GAMES!
Hold on to your unipegs, this is not your typical G.K. DeRosa story - Sweet Revenge is a bit grittier and has a lot more steamy spice and language. However, true to G.K. fashion, there's a strong FMC, schmexy MCs, lots of mystery, mayhem, and tons of romance - plus plenty of cliffhangers (we love her for those). We are back on Azar with our favorite (maybe not so favorite) Producer, Director, and MC of the hottest reality show in both realms... Hitched, only this time it is LIVE. Our bachelorette is a broken lone wolf, sort of... her wolf never emerged. Plus, Aspen has major PTSD from a traumatic broken mate bond and has a bit of a rough side, but underneath it all, she is just lonely and emotionally damaged. The bachelors come in a colorful variety of supernatural species, all secret, of course, though you can guess some if you are familiar with G.K.'s previous works. Aspen is still very guarded and unsure about giving love another chance, so I look forward to the next two books to see her love story unfold - because you know in the end there will be a HEA.
This is the first one of Genevieve's hitched series that I've read and I easily already have a favourite 😍 I even liked one of the four first eliminated, it's definitely going to be tough if favourites are eliminated.
After brutally having her bond to her fated mate severed Aspen's new roommate convinced her to live a little and audition for the supernatural version of the Bachelorette 'Hitched Live' but when one of the twelve turns out to be her ex-fated mates twin brother everything that happened comes tumbling back to the surface. Luckily there's eleven other contestants to keep her busy. But after a series of group dates end in disaster Aspen has to wonder if the same curse that plagued past Hitched series is now plaguing her season too. When it comes down to the first elimination which four will be the first to go and who will live to see another date only time will tell.
TITLE - Sweet Revenge AUTHOR - G.K. DeRosa TYPE - Series; #1 of 6 in 'The Hitched Live Saga" POV - 1st Person - Multiple GENRE - Urban fantasy, Romance READ DATES - 3/6/2024 to 3/7/2024
MAIN CHARACTERS - Aspen, Deacon, Fallon, Knox, TBD
INITIAL REACTION - You know… sometimes I struggle with rating a book. This is one of those times. I'm not really invested in any of the characters yet and the story (thus far) is a bit meh. I'm going to go into the next book in hopes that things pick up a little better. I definitely want more of Aspen and Knox. That's kind of what's keeping me going at this point.
If you're familiar with the Hitched series, you might spot some similarities in the plot. However, there's a key difference: Aspen, the main character, is already aware of the supernatural beings, whereas Kimmie-Jayne is just beginning to discover this fascinating World of Azar.
With 12 bachelors to remember, it can be a bit tricky to recall all their names and guess their supernatural house at first. However, the ones that really stand out to me, and are often talked about, are likely the top 5! 😂
I appreciate that the author took the time to include pictures and some details about the bachelor at the end of the story. However, I found it a bit disappointing that when reading on my Kindle, the images are in black and white, and I can't zoom in to see the finer details. However, that's not something that will stop me from enjoying the story.
I'm curious about one thing though, what’s the timeline for this story? From what I can gather, it seems to align with the timeline of the Vampish series. I might be mistaken, but that’s just my hunch! 😁
If you're a fan of the Hitched series or enjoy the beings from the world of Azar, you won't want to miss the first book of the Hitched Live series, Sweet Revenge. It features the theme of possible enemies turning into lovers, some mild steamy moments, and plenty of mysteries to unravel. Overall, it's a delightful and entertaining read!
As I read the three books at a nonstop pace, I did forget to review each one individually. One could say that there’s no originality in writing about the same subject; however G.K. Derosa always surprises us. The story could have the same main theme, but the way that the facts are developed indicates how creative is this wonderful writer. This time, our main character is Aspen, a half blood that could not change into her wolf form, and a fantastic choice of bachelors directed by the well-known characters Sheppard and Dax. A fluid writing, a fast paced narrative, mysteries to be solved, hot scenes, passion, jealousy, friendship, and compassion are part of this serie. The settings are incredible and it’s great to revisit some places in Azar and meet again characters that are so dear to us. Certainly, this was a journey to remember.
While this premise is interesting, and it would be fun to have a take on the "bachelorette" style reality tv with a supernatural spin; Some elements really work here but the writing is grade school at best which destroys what is has going for it. It's not charming to call people "alpha-holes" or "supes" as some sort of weird lingo for the real words that already exist. There was so much grade school lingo crossing over , it took away from the book and it's extremely hard to look past. Just because something can be shortened doesn't mean it should. This kind of verbage really weighs heavy on the book everytimes it's used. It makes it feel unimaginative and lacking real creativity by using it. For heaven sakes, a Unipeg? That's the word/creature we created ?
The pacing is alright, the characters are mostly fleshed out but it left a lot to be desired even from this kind of book genre.
It was okay. I don’t like the FMC to much, she does a lot of “screeching” and seems like a drama queen. This was advertised on Insta as an enemies to lovers with Knox but that didn’t happen. Also she keeps saying her ex but from the beginning it was described as the mate bond snapped in place and then he rejected her shortly after but later on in the book it was made to seem she was dating him. Another thing I didn’t like, was her prejudice against Dante. Her saying that there Vampires and Werewolves don’t like each other so she refused to give him a chance. However that made no sense in her case because she grew up in the human world as a human…
From what it seems like now, she doesn’t really have a love connection with really anyone, except maybe Deacon. Although if it a connection for love or FWB
4.5 ⭐️ not going to lie i was a bit skeptical of this book at first, i also downloaded it for stuff your kindle day and told myself if i didn’t like it that’s ok it was only the first book and i got it for free so i didn’t have to get the others, but man did i just jump to buy the next. i didn’t expect the book to be so good, lately i haven’t read much or quickly but this book got me out of a slump. its a bit cheesy on some parts and steamy on others (not super smutty or as smutty as i hoped it would be but it has a few scenes dribbled in). as a whole the book was great and i myself am even fond of specific bachelors more than others, and the twist of mystery/thriller really jumped out at me! i’m not 100% sure if i like that element just yet but maybe in the second book i might like it a bit better!
>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 1st in the Hitched Live series and ends with a cliffhanger. The book follows a reality dating show for supes. Aspen is on the show to help her forget her trauma. She had her mate bond brutally broken by her Alpha because she is unable to shift. The difference between this book and other contest books is due to this author fleshing out each bachelor. Knowing each bachelor has the reader share in the stress Aspen feels when she has to eliminate contestants.
>This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 5 stars. There is a threat of danger coming from an unknown source that threatens everyone’s life. I feel like I am Aspen and trying to navigate the game and all of the feelings.
Supernatural Dating Show With Intrigue.💝💥 3.5 Star's.⭐⭐⭐✨ (Read Using Kindle Unlimited) Sweet Revenge: (The Hitched Live Series, Book 1)
I really like this author, however, so far this book has felt too close to rehash of the first 'Hitched' series. I think it's taken a bit too long, in book 1, for her and Knox to connect to differentiate the series, if this is about her revenge on her mate. The writing is still good, and I am intrigued by Fallon, and some of the others.👍
I’m loving this series so far! Aspen’s revenge on her ex mate is her getting the attention and affection she was starved for by 12 men, lots of money, and possibly a true HEA at the end of the triology. Yeah that’s something I can get behind! She deserves it, and true happiness.
The mystery portion was not something I was expecting, but loved the added twists it gave. I can’t wait to find out which guy she chose, and if they stay together. She honestly deserves true happiness after what was done to her.
Cliffhanger! Cliffhanger!! Cliffhanger!!! I really enjoyed this book, its bachelorette meets fantasy with a bit of spice thrown in. When I first realized it was basically a book with the same premise as the bachelorette I do have to say my interest dropped a bit because I am not a fan of the show. However, I stuck to it and kept reading and the fantasy/drama element, which I am a big fan of, really made things take a turn for the better in my eyes. Also I am happy I read the prequel novella first to have that backstory in mind of the break up with the fated mate. I think that helps understand Aspens intentions for her situation a bit more. Starting the second book immediately!
The author has given me/us a reality show I can really and truly enjoy, which says a lot since I’m not a fan of reality TV. I don’t watch “The Bachelor” nor “The Bachelorette” but I find the use of this premise in a paranormal romance series to be highly entertaining as the author has given me/us great characters and a wonderful new supernatural world.
I enjoyed the Hitched series and was looking forward to this one. It's OK, I like the overall setting and premise for the story. It's well written and edited. I didn't really like the female main character, she's self-centered and 'screeches' a lot so she comes across as a drama queen. It's still a good light read and I like the bachelorette story line, the setting, and the supporting cast, so I may move on to the next one.
I found myself skipping a lot of pages. I thought it was interesting and had a lot of premise. I just didn't like that it felt like there were too many things happening, too much drama. I believe because it was written originally for Vella that I just don't like that kind of formatting.
I skipped 2nd book and went straight for 3rd just to see who she choses in the end...
3 stars because the author does write well. Just not my kind of story or book format.
It’s a guilty pleasure steamy reality tv show in book form! What’s not to love? I really like the characters and you quickly become invested. It’s a quick and enjoyable read that makes you want to jump into book two.
I love the characters and the interactions as well as all the intrigue that happens through the book. You want to know what’s coming and who is who and what they are hiding. It’s really good and a very enjoyable read.
The concept of *reading* The Bachelorette versus watching it actually appealed to me. Toward the beginning, I was really interested. But something didn't click all the way for me and I just didn't love it. The sounds that kept "accidentally sneaking" from Aspen annoyed me and the "puckered skin" made my teeth clinch. I do like the hint of mystery and intrigue. Not enough smexy time, though. I don't believe I'll continue this series.
