Synopsis: Atlanta Realtor Cat Deen’s average life gets axed when she discovers that demons are real— and they know her name. Though some take human form, they can’t hide their wicked souls (or the nasty things they do) from Cat. One can even turn her insides to mush… but in a good way.

This book has an interesting premise. A curse in Cat Deen's family, affecting the women only, allows her to discern demons. This is her first gift and her calling is to kill them. The catch here is she will have 9 lives, each life she will gain another gift. I have no idea how this is gonna work out as the series progresses. Cat's character is good but I cannot believe how ignorant about the supernatural she is. Either that or the author felt we needed a primer on supernatural beings because as Cat was 'discovering' her gift, she had no idea what a Lycanthrope, golem, and some other creatures. She has to be informed of vampires etc. It's tedious.
Cat discovers a gruesome murder in a house she is planning on showing. Then the next three or four houses and all I could think was why the hell didn't the cops go to the homes first and why did she continue working while all this was going on.
Not the worst book I've read but I doubt I will pick up the second installment. This does have possabilities and some of you may have more patience with it.

I laughed out loud the way she described Merv the Perv... lol down to his pink sausage fingers.. lol And Tegan.. what girl would not take a second look at the tall, dark, quiet type.. Can't wait for the next one.. Second book by M. Leighton that I have read this week.. Says the 2nd book will be here later this year.. I'll be ok this is a book a can read again...:)

"Caterpillar" is an exciting paranormal mystery. Catherine Deen (Cat) is a real estate agent. She is on the brink of her 24th birthday. However, she hates birthday and certainly in not looking forward to this one.

While setting up a house for viewing, she an her assistant Rainn discover a slaughtered body. Cat calls 9-1-1 and waits for the police. Once they arrive, she and Rainn undergo a litany of questions. She goes home and before she has a chance to unwind from her ordeal, she receives a visit from Detective S. Teagan.

Time after time, Cat shows houses and time after time she discovers horrific murder scenes. Secrets of her family are also revealed and she must garner the strength to deal with them.

I really enjoyed the characters, intrigue, and plot development. However, after the 3rd or 4th murder I became apprehensive and asked myself, "Where is this going?" Soon enough my answer came and secrets were revealed. There are no hot romance scenes but there is a strong loving bond between the characters

For those of you who enjoy murder/mysteries, this could be the book for you. However, I will warn you that the murders are pretty grotesque and horrific.

I liked the story & the main characters. The author leaves a lot of questions lingering. I am guessing that the author will answer more little by little as the series unfolds. If like mystery with a touch of paranormal then I would recommend this book. It was not intense but still a good read.

Cat's family is cursed & from her 24th Birthday she will learn about what the future holds for her. She continually discovers dead bodies & meets a detective that takes her breath away. She is drawn to him & is not sure why. They quickly work together to uncover the murderer & stop the brutal killings. Cat is in serious danger all the time & Teagan is her only real protection. But Teagan has secrets of his own & does not want to overwhelm her with too many details to soon. Cat struggles to take in all that she has learned. Cat struggles to trust Teagan even though she knows there are too many secrets that he has not shared. I feel that the author leaves you ready for the next book in the series & wanting to know where Cat & Teagan go from here. All in all a good read.

Can we give more than 5 stars? I don't think there are enough positive adjectives to describe this book! Amazing! Incredible! Thrilling! Intense! Superb! A mind-blowing page turner...I couldn't put it down! Ms. Leighton has created yet another masterpiece! You know the writing is excellent when you forget about the words and are completely taken in by the story! The male lead was amazing! ;) The world that the author is just barely starting to create with this first book is so intriguing! I loved it and can't wait to read the next book! I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea...fantastic read!

This was a great start to a new series I really enjoyed Cat and getting to know her powers along with her. Shes a normal girl with a kick butt attitude and nerves of steal, she keeps stumbling across ritual death sites and she doesn't let this stop her from pushing through and trying to get some answers. The romance in this is hot and I loved that theywent at a some what normal pace even though they have an intense reactkion to each other. I loved this book and the way the author wrote kept me interested all the way through. If you haven't read anything by this author I highly recommend that you do you wont regret it.

I'd actually give this one a 2.5 I think. While the story was somewhat interesting the book had a lot of descriptive material that could have been committed. So much that it made the story a bit boring. The characters were superficial and uninteresting, particularly the male lead. While a lot of time was spent on building the scenes, particularly the murder scenes there was not a lot of time spent getting into the characters heads which made them unsympathetic.

More like three and a half stars. I enjoyed the stubborness of the MC. She wasn't perfect or even likeable at times and I found that refreshing. There was also some pretty gruesome scenes which I loved. The writing could have been tightened but it didn't bother me too much. I don't know if the author's other fans would like this one, but I did. I'm not too sure about the other books though. Might be too tweeny for this dude!

This was a great book. It was a little gory at times but it was nice to read something that wasn't having to do with teenagers. I love YA fiction, but it's nice to read some "grown-up" books. I can't wait to read the next one in the series. Should be really good!!

There is a lot of open questions and the author doesn't seem to be continuing the series. I would keep reading the series, but I just don't know if that will happen.
