This is the 4th time I've read this book. This year, I read it for mentoring. I highly recommend this book for any woman seeking to fulfill God's purposes for her life! The first time I read it, our women's ministry coordinator asked me to review it for use in our women's ministry. I didn't particularly want to read it. I wasn't seeking God's purpose for my life. Yet in the midst of reading it, God surprised me. He called me to be a writer! A dozen years later, I have a well-established blog, over 20 articles/devotions published, I'm editor of our corporate newsletter, and I'm working on two book projects.
Good solid and useful. Lots of food for thought and exercises for growth. A book to work through as opposed to read through. The writing style isn't what I am used to but that was actually part of the appeal. Sometimes it just takes a fresh view of an idea to bring it to life and reveal its relevance. Would definitely recommend.
Katie Brazelton is the founder of Pathway to Purpose Ministry. Rather than list her accolades I will sum them up in saying her passion is Women’s ministry and has discipled women for many years in and through several venues.
Pathway to Purpose is her response to the barriers women experience at various stages in life. These barriers, which prevent women from experiencing the life mission God has ready and waiting for us, are sometimes those placed in our path by others, but more often we place them ourselves. They are found in the form of life’s immediate ‘To-do’ list encompassing the obligations of family, children, job, and church. This book “shows you how to connect your to-do list, your passions, and God’s purposes for your life.” Yes, we do have more than one purpose within God’s plan.
Divided into chapters with titles such as Is Your Life Out of Sync, Repent of All Your Offenses, Walk with Integrity, and Surrender Your Daily Life to God; Katie takes the reader on a journey of self-discovery. The chapters are then grouped into sections that delve into the specific purposes God has waiting for us.
Each chapter grouping should be viewed as a path and should be read, re-read and discussed with someone. Some are easy to digest and the reader may even feel a sense of accomplishment as I did: “I already do this one. Place a check mark for me.” Then as I read further my sense of accomplishment turned doubtful when the full scope of that chapters theme was bought to light. Other chapters are much harder and this is especially where a reading buddy or book study group would come in handy to break things down into a more manageable size.
At the end of the book Ms Brazelton provides a study guide for book clubs and study groups. Also at the end of each chapter are a list of questions which gives the reader something to use to digest the information received and then put it into use.
I highly recommend this book as a study guide. Again it is not a book to skim through merely to check off as a book read. It’s the beginning of an on-going study of ones self- discovery through the purposes waiting for and given to us by The Father.
I felt like this book jumped into the deep, and for life-long Christians with a full understanding of what a lot of the concepts mean, it is probably a great personal growth book; however, for those of us who are just really getting to know who Jesus is on a personal and deep relational level, and coming to grips with a new relationship with Him in our lives, this is not the best book to start with. I liked it, I feel like I hope to return to it maybe a year or two from now and see if it hits differently, but for now, I was hoping for more of a baby-step format, with learning and discipleship, teaching and explanation of how to understand purpose from Gods viewpoint, relevant verses and what they mean, and how to even begin a Christian mindset change for it. For many, we are just trying to identify what our role is in relationship to Him! Regardless, I liked the writing style and there were several great takeaways :)
Good book on finding your purpose. I liked book recommendations at end of each chapter. Good reflection questions. Stopped reading at section 6 it lost my interest because I already found my interest
I found the book helpful and inspiring. Yet, at times, I was bored by the writing. I was looking for a book that blew me out of the park, but I got a book that was just okay.
Pathway to Purpose for Women (Katie Brazelton) is not a book to sit down and read all in one session, but rather one to read over the course of several days or weeks, taking time to reflect on each chapter. That's just the nature of growth in general, including spiritual growth--it takes time and energy to grow a seedling into a strong tree.
A friend of mine asked if I could find a book for her to read, to help her discover her purpose in life while learning more about the Christian walk. I chose Pathway to Purpose for Women, because it gives biblically sound and practical step-by-step guidance to discovering one's life purpose, providing encouragement and wisdom along the way. It seemed a perfect book, as we had just taken a trip together where we did some hiking and soul-searching. I ended up getting two copies so we could read it together.
I thought Pathway to Purpose would be great for my friend, and I was reading it mainly to encourage her, and to be able to discuss it with her. However, I ended up getting just as much out of it as she did, if not more. I have a tendency to want to be on the mountaintop, without doing the hard work of getting there; but this book taught me to slow down and focus on each individual step. Then, as I'm faithfully following God's will in the small things, he will lead me to a greater purpose when the time is right. It's certainly not always easy, which Brazelton makes sure to point out, but it is always worth it. Every journey begins with a single step, and this book is a good starting point for any woman who is searching for something more to life.
Katie is amazing! And this book is quite good, really! And, I'm not just saying that because it is her program that certified me as a Life Purpose Coach. In a sea of life coaching humanism, this series is on target with a biblically and psychologically based foundation. I read it, of course, for myself. And, I re-read it from cover to cover when I got sick this past october for three weeks. I was inspired all over again. Go for it! And, then call me for some life coaching!!! I liked this book b/c it wasn't condescending and really, everything it tells you to do is possible. I'd love to use this book for a women's study but not just a women's study where we journal our thoughts and discuss; a woman's study where we journal our progress and thoughts through SCRAPBOOKING! seriously, I got so many ideas for my Book of Faith.
If you have an open mind and are out there floundering, trying to find out what you're on this planet for, this book is life changing. I am really hopeful for what God's plan is for me and I believe this book has just hit the tip of the iceberg.
There's a lot of good information here, but the writing is terrible. Really terrible. I read it with a small group and had to stop myself from constantly complaining about it. That said, the steps are all important ones on the Christian walk, whether you're consciously seeking your purpose or not.
There was nothing necessarily wrong with the book. It's been awhile since reading it. It varies in it's uniqueness, it broaches the topics of so many Christian books for women I got bored with it. It was kind of the same old thing you see repeatedly in them.
just in to the 5th chapter of this book. It is really good and an easy read! Great to do as a small group study. We are doing amonst our MOPS leadership group.
I am almost finished with this book. It is one the you need to sit with and chew on between readings. It is easy to read and helpful to figure out why God made us the way he did.
