Vanessa Miller’s A Promise of Forever Love is the third book of the Second Chance at Love Series. Co-Pastor Yvonne Milner was forced into full-time ministry as senior pastor Christ-Life Sanctuary after her husband’s sudden death due to health reasons. She had more than she could bear thrown at her all at once, “when it rains, it pours” after David Milner’s death. She was losing members, bills were higher than tithes and offerings received, and facing Detroit’s declining economy as well as nearly losing what she and her husband worked so hard for—their ministry and church. The board members wanted to see her go under and loose her only job and income as a pastor. She threw her hands up and willing to let it all go until a dear friend, Thomas, jumped in to bail her out of the debt that wrangled over her shoulders. She had no clue what other problems outside of church would surface too, and those who had deceitful, greedy motives to steal the church right under her. We have to be careful and be watchful and pray. Those whom seem friendly can be deadly.
"God could still bring about a miracle even in the midst of dysfunction."-p. 132
These are some other things that came to mind in the reading: Don’t give up on your dreams. Don’t lose the faith. Nothing is impossible for God.
This book had suspense, drama, and life-changing events that can make a drastic outcome. Once you get to the middle of the book, you can’t get it out of your mind nor do you want to put it down until you find out what will come of Yvonne’s church, her daughters, and her love life after the death of her husband. Seriously, I am rooting for Thomas Reed—this is the kinda man I need in my life. The hero to save the day and pay the way! Nothing in this book was predictable except "true love" will never fail.
I read the entire 2nd chance series because the stories were so close to home for me as a female minister. I loved the story line. This was my first time reading any of Vanessa Miller's book and I wondered how I could have missed her all these years. She is now on my list of authors that I wait with baited breath to produce another work. Thank God I can circle back around to read her earlier works.
Yvonne Milner became Pastor after her husband David passed away. But most of the members left the church and others felt like women shouldn't be in the pulpit. She had to call Thomas her husband friend because he was a board member and they was trying to get rid of her because the church was in debt. Thomas agreed to pay the debt only if Yvonne could stay the Pastor and he could become Co-Pastor. Next they found out that the government was trying to tear down house's and the church in the neighborhood to build a factory to turn it into a business district. They also found out that one of there Deacon Clarence Brown was working along with Edward Marvel William in order to obtain this community. In the end Yvonne fell in love with...... Remember to always keep the faith in every situation you face in life.
It was a very shallow book. When I mean shallow, I mean a book with not much meat to it. Just kind of a side dish and not a whole meal. I liked the story and I liked supporting a black author. I will read more of her books to support her, but I think she needs to get more in depth with her writing. That Yvonne and Thomas has more connection. In the writing, there should be more about their feelings, thoughts, their soul. Less repetition. There were many times in the book when Yvonne would have a conversation with someone and then repeat the ENTIRE conversation with God. I know I couldn't write a better book and this book is probably better than what I could write, but I have read MUCH better. Good authors don't have to tell the reader that someone is going to be a couple, the author should let the readers feel the journey to the end.
It took me a while to get into it, but I liked how it all came together. The drama was a bit extreme, but I've come to expect that of Ms.Miller. I liked the love story in the novel between Yvonne and Thomas. The story was cute. I don't know if I would read it again, or recommend it, but I'm kind of hoping that there will be another sequel featuring Toya and Jarrod.
it goes to show you can love after the death of a love one.You should not promise a dead person Love forever. We have to have faith in God in everything WE do.do it in the name of the Lord and it shall be done.
This is such a good read. I read this story from cover to cover. The story grabs you as you see a church struggle and rise again. It will stretch your faith and encourage you.
This book was an easy read. I loved that the story line was simple. The characters were so easy to understand. There were a few events needed a bit more attention. I was glad I read this one!
I thought this book was outstanding. The characters were amazing and totally worked. The location (Michigan) was a great choice and really contributed to the climatic moment of the book.
