本书以古琴文化为主线,用娓娓道来的文风阐述了中国古典艺术—古琴的前世今生,对历史上文人雅士与古琴的轶事进行了生动、有趣的讲述,让人在欣赏古琴余韵之余,对那段令人向往的历史产生了遐想,同时对古琴所代表的中华民族文化有了更深一层的认知和感悟。《半屋琴馀》:非特如此,一些能领悟其中奥妙的琴者,在“肃其气,澄其心,缓其度,远其神”之时,还要细细地调弄琴弦。这一方面是为了试音,看琴弦是否合度;另一方面,是为了让琴弦的振动,与自己当下的心意相契合。有人把这称之为“品弦”,这也是入琴、入境的一种方法。唐人薛易简《琴诀》指出琴之“七病”:夫弹琴之甚病有七:弹琴之时目睹于他,瞻顾左右,一也;摇身动首,二也;变色惭怍,开口怒目,三也;眼色疾遽,喘息粗悍,进退无度,形神支离,四也;不解用指,音韵杂乱,五也;调弦不切,听无真声,六也;调弄节奏,或慢或急,任己去古,七也。这“七病”中,其实也并不全在“艺”上着眼,更有对琴人的雅正的要求。琴,自古被视为“八音之首”,属雅乐重器。清人沈琯《琴学正声》说:“琴之为器,贯众乐之长,统大雅之尊。”因此,琴曲“孤高岑寂”,“淡而会心”,极富含蓄之美,素以“清微淡远”为其旨趣,追求的正是“弦外之音”、“韵外之致”的深邃意境,《溪山琴况》形容这种境界“其无尽藏,不可思议”;“琴中有无限滋味,玩之不竭”;“迂回曲折,疏而实密,抑扬起伏,断而复联,此皆以音之精义,而应乎意之深微也”。这种境界的极致,便是绝去尘嚣、遗世独立的希夷境界,如“深山邃谷、老木寒泉”,“山静秋鸣、月高林表”,又如“松风远拂、石涧流寒”,“山居深静、林木扶苏”。……酒狂火中生莲说“移云”琴不以艺观——从“徽外堂”说开去“渔父”杂说樵歌杂说墨子悲丝佩兰青溪艺文小志“汉服”与古琴“琴联”摭谈指法与笔法古琴不“古”广陵散绝琴中一乐笑佛梦中之鹤为谁流下潇湘去——琴曲《潇湘水云》与漾湘文化“秋籁”、秋士及其他“按谱鼓曲”与“诗趟诂”大休琴事关于言子蔡邕与金陵的“琴缘”“琴歌”五题一、《弹歌》或许是琴歌二、“士”为何“无故不彻琴瑟”三、“孔子皆弦歌之”,非独琴歌也四、“琴歌”与“相和歌”五、琴歌的流变与没落六朝建康琴人录后记
