Massage therapist Rita Madison is divorced and retreating to the sanctuary of her upscale Jersey Shore hometown. At 39, she's tired, broke, and has little trust in men. Her plan is to build her own business, spend time with her beloved aunt and walk on the beach--far from men, lies, and deception. But the idyllic locale she remembers from her childhood no longer exists. Her aging aunt is facing a bleak financial situation, and a series of incidents are plaguing her new business, threatening to derail her new life and livelihood. To complicate matters further, two attractive men enter Rita's a down-to-earth yet secretive carpenter who claims he is looking out for her aunt and a wealthy, smooth-talking businessman who offers her a trouble-free life every chance he gets. While Rita untangles the finances of her aunt, she must decide if she can learn to trust and love again. But is she putting her trust, and her heart, in the care of the right man?

Walks on the beach with you bare feet swaying through the grains of sand, maybe hand in hand with the possible love of your life, does that not sound amazing? That is only the start of this book, Dangerous Sands has smooth writing, sensuality and mystery. That is some of the feelings I got from reading this book.

Rita is a simple woman needing to find her way back after her divorce and willing to start a new beginning with her Aunt Liz. It sounds amazing starting a new beginning in an ocean front home where she can just relax at the beach and enjoy life. Sounds amazing to me but some things don’t come that easy. Rita is not able to trust a man because of her past, but not all men are jerks. I worried after her first encounter with Mitch because of the situation that happened, but I've got to tell you she knows how to defend herself. To my surprise after reading a little more she is a very smart, independent woman and I love how she is able to handle a little conflict. Rita is able to suppress some of her feelings from Mitch but for how long and will she be disappointed that maybe she has made another mistake with another man, but good things come to people who wait. Love how Rita and Mitch make comments to each other as if they have known each other forever.
Mitch a jack of all trades but most of all gorgeous and sexy, well sorry but sexy as hell. I love how his character is somewhat dangerous, mysterious but after reading you find out that he is protective and gives a feel of warmth and sincerity. He knows what buttons to push when it comes to another character in this book that has his own agenda. The best part of the book that leaves you tingly and breathless is when he goes out to the beach and finds Rita and offers to lotion her body before getting major sunburn. Well let’s just say that those big hands had no problems giving a wonderful rub down. The best part of Mitch is how honorable he is when he could have taken full advantage of Rita during a moment of a little too much to drink.

Dangerous Sands is an intense mysterious book that will grab you and not let you go until you finish reading the book from beginning to end. This book will make you wonder what people will do in order to get what they want, not caring who gets hurt during the process.

Managing men and money sends Rita’s plans to rest and get her life back on track flying away. Instead of rest, her life slips into high gear as she deals with the manipulative Tony, the mysterious Mitch, and Aunt Liz’s money matters, not to mention starting her own business. Rita’s integrity, loyalty, and work ethic make her a strong character. Her prickly attitude toward Mitch and cautious handling of Tony gives the reader insight into her lack of trust in men. The old adage ‘once burned, twice shy’ fits Rita well.

Mitch, the supposedly homeless carpenter, and Tony, the hometown rich boy grown up to be the wealthy local wheeler-dealer, influence Rita and her Aunt Liz’s lives differently but with surprising and shocking outcomes. Karen Bostrom makes Mitch and Tony come alive with foreshadowing and subtle clues that hint of their true personalities.

Serena, Rita’s ditzy, fortunetelling friend and confidant, brings humor and true friendship into the morass of troubles that beset Rita. Even though she marches to a different drum, she is ever loyal — makes one love her.

To me, Aunt Liz, in all her goodness and unawareness of finance, is not as believable as the other characters, but her ineptitude is paramount to the plot.

Dangerous Sands has an undercurrent of threat that escalates as the plot unfolds. The vandalism, narrow escapes, and mysterious mishaps keep the reader on edge and wondering how in the world the characters will ever untangle the good from the bad so love can flourish and heal old hurts. Secrets threaten, but love finds a way to shine through bright and strong giving that special ‘ah, yes’ feeling that is so satisfying.

After finally cleaning up the financial mess left by her ex-husband, Rita retreats to her aunt’s beach house on the Jersey Shore for a summer of low-key R&R. When she decides to open a massage therapy business, her aunt insists that Mitch, the handsome yet mysterious handyman living above the garage, help with construction. Rita agrees, but is skeptical of all men since her divorce and is reluctant to get involved with anyone Mitch is no exception — despite his good looks and their chemistry.

When Rita gets a disturbing phone call she brushes it off as a prank. But after it is the first of many and other mysterious things begin to occur, Rita knows something’s not right. Could someone be trying to sabotage her? Between starting a new business, her unwanted role in a love triangle and trying to save her aunt’s house from being sold, Rita’s summer is turning out to be anything but relaxing.

The backdrop in Dangerous Sands plays a major role in this sexy and suspenseful contemporary romance, and the Jersey Shore is a charming and picturesque secondary character. Heroine, Rita, is strong-willed and at times stubborn, but hero Mitch is just the right amount persistent and sexy and the duo’s tug-of-war is amusing to watch. The build-up between the pair is slow and steady, making their delayed gratification that much sweeter. In addition, the whodunit element will have readers quickly turning the page, eager to find out what will happen next.

Dangerous Sands is a contemporary romance that focuses on choices. The heroine at a time in her life where decisions must be made. But I honestly had a hard time relating to and liking Rita. She's cynical, closed off, and doesn't trust men, and sometimes she comes off as crass. Further into the story, the reader catches a glimpse of more emotion from her.

The story itself had plenty of things to keep me going. Pacing was great, and I absolutely adored Rita's Aunt.

I wondered throughout who Rita would end up with, the author kept the suspense up in that category fairly well. I enjoyed the story. If you like contemporary romances with an older heroine, then Dangerous Sands just be may what you are looking for.
