Medjugorje: The Message

Rate this book
The original and bestselling story of the miracles and message of Medjugorje, the little town in the hills of the former Yugoslavia that has become a global phenomenon. Journalist Wayne Weible tells how his life was forever changed by what he experienced there.   With refreshing candor and self-deprecating humor, Wayne Weible (1937-2018) takes readers with him on the adventure to Medjugorje that radically and permanently changed his life.  You will discover the apparitions of the Blessed Mother along with him, as he chronicles the ways that the Virgin Mary continues to speak to the world today from Medjugorje. This book continues as the bestseller on Medjugorje in the English language, with over 385,000 copies sold.

“Since 1981, the message of conversion and reconciliation with God has been uniquely reaffirmed by the Blessed Virgin Mary in the unlikely little village of Medjugorje. She has been appearing there daily to six young people who live in the valley that lies in the shadow of the cross on Mount Krizevac. According to the youths chosen for this special mission of renewal, the mother of Jesus is bringing an urgent plea from her Son to all mankind to turn away from a world terminally ill with the disease of sin and reconcile with Him.” —Wayne Weible

About the Author

Wayne Weible has authored eight books on his experiences and investigations of the reported apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the village of Medjugorje, all which have become international best sellers. His first book--Medjugorje: The Message, has sold more than 500,000 copies in the U.S. and an estimated 500,000 in other languages around the world. This is the top selling book internationally on the Medjugorje apparitions. His other books include: Medjugorje The Mission; Letters From Medjugorje; Final Harvest; A Child Shall Lead Them; The Medjugorje Prayer Book; Are The Medjugorje Apparitions Authentic?; and The Medjugorje Fasting Book

Weible is a former newspaper publisher and columnist. He became interested in the alleged apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary, to six young Croations in the tiny farming village of Medjugorje in Bosnia-Hercegovina, in October 1985. Weible decided to write an article about them for his four weekly newspapers. It was while viewing a video tape of the apparitions as research for the article that Weible, a Protestant at that time, states, I suddenly felt a strong message within my heart that not only was I to write about these events, but I was to devote my life to the spreading of its basic message of reconciliation with God.

The Miracle At Medjugorje, a collection of a series of newspaper articles, was originally published in Sept. 1986. From an initial printing of 3,000 copies, Miracle At Medjugorje distribution has reached an astounding 100 million-plus copies and is still distributed throughout the world. Weible Columns, Inc. continues to publish The Medjugorje Newsletter monthly.

Weible spends most of his professional time writing and lecturing on the phenomenon of Medjugorje, travelling throughout the world and the United States. He has appeared on numerous national, regional and local television and radio programs including the Mother Angelica Television Show, and the Oprah Winfrey Show. Weible has traveled to Medjugorje more than 96 times and continues to lead groups each year. He is personally acquainted with all of the visionaries. In 1991, he converted to the Roman Catholic Church; however, he continues to emphasize that The message coming from the Virgin Mary in Medjugorje is for all faiths, not just for Catholics--or for that matter just for Christians. Weible is married and lives with his wife in Hiawassee, Georgia. He is a graduate of the University of South Carolina, with a degree in Journalism and is preparing to pursue a Masters degree in theology.

A fast moving, sincere, and gentle account of an extraordinary outpouring of grace, which the author links directly to other interventions by grace throughout the universal church: the great Protestant revivals and also the great Catholic apparitions.
At issue in the modern world (ever since the Enlightenment) is the question of who is ultimately in control: God or Man. Many of us are determined that we are, or at least should be. We resent being told by religious folk that sex is not a toy but rather a sacred sharing in the ongoing creation of the cosmos - and some most forcefully resent and resist ‘the tyranny’ of gender assigned in the womb - even to the point of the critical examination of the attitudes of very young pre-pubescents.
The events described in this book, as in historical accounts of the great revivals and apparitions, knock this modern preoccupation clean out of the ring. Great miracles are included but are only told of in support of the central message: it is time to repent, to be reconciled to one another and to our Creator - especially in regard to denominations and religions. That the author is a Lutheran and not a Catholic is probably central to the strategy of the Blessed Virgin who is reported as saying through the visionaries that she doesn’t always choose the best people.
This book is utterly convincing, and reading it should be an occasion of great grace.

I read this book after attending a church group/meeting that consisted of a rosary and message with Ivan one of the visionaries. After witnessing him converse with the Blessed Mother, I became very curious about Medjugorje & picked up a few books on the topic & this wad one of them. It really is a good book to get a general feel for what Medjugorje is or maybe what to expect. It is the authors calling to Medjugorje & what he went through to get there. It is a very good read, I loved it & have read his other books.

Just a great book. Wayne is a tremendous, engaging author. I think this book is most-appropriate for those who have felt a calling to learn more about Medjugorje, and especially for those whom Medjugorje has become central in their lives. Our Lady of Medjugorje's messages are so important to me now and I found many common threads between my story of learning about the messages and Wayne's.

This is a good book! I enjoyed reading it, and it filled me with excitement at every page turn. However, it did begin to get repetitive towards the second half of the book. However, coming from a Protestant perspective, Wayne Weible writes a very interesting and thoughtful reflection on his experiences with Medjugorje. I would have liked to see a little more on what has been happening, but it is worth a read.

While I enjoyed the book, I intended to read about Medjugorge to determine what exactly has been occurring there over the past 20-some years. This book doesn't serve that purpose at all, as Wayne Weible is an advocate and a convert because of his experiences with the people and the place. I finished the book but realized I would have to continue my research elsewhere to make up my own mind about the apparitions. The Internet has many different sites dedicated to Medjugorge and the people to whom the apparitions have appeared. Each individual will have to decide what he/she believes about such phenomena.

I was excited to get this book, having heard so much about it. It just wasn't exactly what I expected. I wanted to know every detail about the miracle that is happening in my time, but as it applies to all of us, not just to one person. This book is one person's personal story. It is well written, and an easy read.

I've read many books on the subject of Medjugorje, but this is the first one written by a non-Catholic. Its wonderful, insightful and very well written. I'll let you know if he converts or not when I get to the end. But, he has found that the world saw Mary before it saw Jesus.

Okay, today I finished the book. He hadn't changed religions yet, but he has been converted. He and his wife and kids now pray the Rosary daily, attend Mass now and then(mostly when they are in Medjugorje), but the real conversion came in their hearts. Which is the basic message Mary brings. Be converted in your hearts. Love as my Son loves you. Pray, fast on bread and water at least once a week, and repent. BTW, the picture on the cover came from an Italian nun who was at an apparition and took a picture of a cross hanging on a wall as the seers were talking to Mary. The cross didn't come out on the film, but that picture did.

Summary: Wayne Weible was a happy protestant, oblivious to what all the hype was about the Blessed Virgin, until a friend came to speak at his Church. He was called to go to Medjugorje and to spread her message. He wrote a few small articles for a local free newspaper and had such overwhelming response that he realized he was meant to dedicate his life to spreading Our Lady's Message at Medjugorje, though his book and speaking.

Review: This book was a well-written, journalistic account, of the apparitions at Medjugorje. The book walked the line between a newspaper article and a personal memoir of one man's journey to love of the Blessed Virgin.

So, it took me 6 months to read this book. But I did enjoy it! My love and devotion for Our Blessed Mother has been growing, especially within the last few years. I have always had an affection for her, and the seeds were certainly planted when I was a child, but that flower of love is truly blossoming in my life right now. I love reading about Mary, because it allows me to get to know her a bit better as a true mother of us all. What is happening in Medjugorje is truly amazing, and I enjoyed reading about these amazing events in our present history!

This book was loaned to me when I most needed it, but didn't realize it. Weible's story truly opened my eyes and helped me renew my faith. Its message is not easy to follow at times, but I now understand that everything worth living for is worth fighting for. Thank you, Mr. Weible, for helping me grow closer to God, Jesus, and Mary the Blessed Mother. This sincerely is a life-changing book.

This book portrays a significant aspect of Catholicism--the messages of the Virgin Mary. It is geared mainly towards those who believe in the faith but since it is told from a Protestant's perspective, it could be said that it is an objective telling.

This was a fabulous book. Wayne Weible writes in such a way as to pull you personally into Medjugorje & to allow the reader to practically "feel" Our Blessed Mother's love for us.
I can't wait to read his next book.

I love this book. It not only gives historical account of what when on in Medjugorje during the early years of the apparitions but also tells a wonderful story of the author's own conversion.

BOOK REVIEW 📚

This was loaned to me by a friend who thought I would enjoy it. And I really did enjoy this! A lot!

Wayne Weible is a journalist who learns of a phenomenon where the Virgin Mary was appearing to six youth in a small village called Medjugorje, in Yugoslavia. His career as a journalist had him fascinated to learn more about this phenomenon, however, he also felt pulled spiritually to learn as much as he could and tell the world about this phenomenon.

In this book he relays his own account of what happened in Medjugorje as well as the stories shared with him by others around the world, as well as the Youth to whom Mother Mary appeared. This was an absolutely fascinating read!!!

This is by far the best book I have ever read. Never before have words impacted this deeply and continuously stuck with me. Before, books have been on my mind for several hours, but this one has been on my mind every second of my waking day captivating my attention. In the short time that I have spent with Medjugorje, I have changed far more than I have in all eighteen years of my life. This book is for everyone of all faiths, and I encourage you, whoever is reading this review, to read this book. Since starting this book, I have prayed the rosary every day. I tell you this not as a Catholic, for I believe the the Rosary is not only for Catholics, but as a child of Christ. Please have no reservations on praying to the Blessed Mother as she is sent to us to lead us to her Son, Jesus Christ. Wayne Weible was given an incredible gift to share the message of Medjurgorje, and I am honored to have received the knowledge through his writing. Medjurgorje is life changing. Please open yourselves to God’s never ending love as you read this book.

As literature, 3 out of 5.
As spiritual guidance, 5.

It’s slow, somewhat repetitive, holding up simple truths. There is nothing earth shattering or surprising here. The Blessed Mother, Mary, appears to and speaks to a group of young people in a poor, remote village, in a forgotten part of the world. She comes as a messenger from her Son, Jesus, urging the world to pray for peace, to seek conversion of the heart every day, to do penance and to fast as part of this prayer and conversion. She reminds us that the Rosary is a gift of prayer and meditation on the life of Jesus, telling us to pray the Rosary every day. The real miracle of Medjugorje is this ongoing conversion of souls.

I recently heard that a place called Medjugorje was approved, and it was immediately curious about what it was since it was the first time I ever heard that name. I came across this book written by a Protestant (non-Catholic) and I was curious about why would he write about a Marian apparition. The book started as a column that the author wanted to write for a newspaper. One thing led to another and this book takes you on an adventure filled with his personal account, and many others. It was easy to read and had several impactful stories. I found myself pausing to take it all in. What a beautiful journey.

This is one book that I have read many times and I cannot put it down!!! I have read many of the books written by Wayne Weible and I love everyone of them! I strongly encourage everyone to read this book and then continue reading all of his books! Wayne Weible is the greatest missionary on the events of Medjugorje in the world! I was blessed to see, meet and listen to the dynamic speaker in Omaha, Nebraska at St. Mary's Church!

A friend loaned me her copy of this book. I'd heard about Medjugorie for many years. I know people who traveled there, some more than once. I also believed I had an intervention in my own life through Ivan, a prayer request given to him to give to our Blessed Mother Mary, and a series of "coincidences" that I believe were not coincidences at all. But, I had never picked up a book and read about it. With all that being said, I read this book in a day and a half. If you want to read an experience about Medjugorie through the eyes of a protestant man, I'd highly recommend this book.

Medjugorje:The Message is a Excellent book on Our Lady by a Protestant,I don't like some of the protestant stuff but the Author is a Protestant LUTHERAN and he has done a service for Mother Mary and points out on Mother Mary Who interecedes for Us and debunks the Mary Worshipping Myth. There is also a history of the Appearances at Medjugorje.Whether or not you are to believe it it is up to you,but it is a wonderful book on faith and that Miracles do and have had happen and will continue to do so.

I knew a little about the miraculous events at Medjugorje before reading this book, but now I can't wait to one day visit myself! Although not the newest book on the subject, Wayne brings an interesting perspective as a religiously lukewarm Protestant who was given the task of spreading the message by Mary herself. The book reads like a novel and is hard to put down- absolutely would recommend to anyone who is interested in learning more!

I went in curious to know how a Protestant was writing about Catholic beliefs, as the message continued, the more I wanted to read, and by the end I had renewed my faith. I began praying the rosary and my anxieties have gone away. This book is written beautifully, that you believe yourself to be in Yugoslavia. I felt that sense of longing when the book ended; wanting more, I began to do my own research.

Sort strange how I came about reading this book I was reading Of Men and Mary when I first heard medjugorje and that is why I ended up buying and reading this book. I found it quite interesting and thought provoking. Saying that I still have to digest it more before I understand everything I read. Loved it though.

Wayne Weible was an active member of a protestant church when he first heard of the events occurring in Medjugorje, Yugoslavia. What started as a topic which would make a great holiday column in a local publication grew into a lifetime mission to spread the miracles and messages of Mary, the mother of Jesus.
