Food that is low in fat need not be tasteless, despite what it might seem when you buy many low-fat or fat-free food from the supermarket.

Here, in another of its trademark little squat books, BBC GoodFood offers a range of healthy low-fat recipes that one can be sure will hit the mark. Split into seven distinct chapters - starters & light meals; pasta, rice & noodles, meat, fish & seafood, veggie-friendly and desserts, you can be sure of finding something interesting and healthy within.

In keeping with the other titles in this excellent series, facing the recipe is a full-colour picture of the completed dish. The recipe itself is broken out to a brief introduction or guide, the ingredients inclusive of a time estimation and serving guide, the instructions and nutritional information. A brief but functional index at the rear allows you to jump in and search for a given dish or ingredient-based dish as required. Every recipe is simple to follow and can yield some rather nice results that would be well appreciated by family or friends. Good, functional food!

All of the books in this series constantly deliver and form into a great little collection that could grace every kitchen. As they build up into a very comprehensive recipe library, it would have been nice to have seen a master index covering all volumes available, but maybe that will come one day. At least if you don't like a certain thing, such as chocolate, you can eschew the chocolate volume, save a few pounds (of money and weight) and just make great use of the volumes that you already have.

These books just work!
