Second book - solid read in this series by Patricia McLinn. Best friend of Boone in the first book, Cully is a former law enforcement officer who is now raising his nephew, who is a bit of a mess. Thinking it might help to get the boy out of trouble's way, they end up in Wyoming where Cully is hoping Boone and his family can help make a difference in his nephew's attitude. Trouble arrives in the first day in town and Cully deals with the shop owner and his nephew in his usual abrupt and overbearing way. But the shopowner, Jessa, is no shrinking violet and proceeds to teach Cully a thing or two. Since escaping a stalker in Washington, D.C. with plans to make a new life for herself, Jessa is not looking for romance. But, as we all know, that little love bug can strike in the most inopportune times. This story deals with overcoming some of life's hardest hurdles and learning powerful lessons at the same time. I really liked all the characters that make up this group of "family" in this series. McLinn writes well, the story moves at a nice pace and I'm ready to see what happens next in the 3rd and final book.

Jessa and Cully meet a year before when Cully is out for Boone and Cambria’s wedding. Now a year later Cully is back with his nephew, Travis, who he has taken in at Travis’s mother’s request. Travis is immediately in trouble at Jessa’s store so Cully makes him work there for the time they are there. Jessa and Cully’s past are obstacles in their relationship and have to be overcome. You have appearances from characters in book 1, but this can also be read as a stand alone. Jessa and Cully’s characters are good, easy to like characters. I like the way they worked through their past to move toward a future. I have enjoyed this series and the writing by this author and will read more books by this author.

An enjoyable read about 2 people learning to accept their pasts. They come to learn what true love is and how to accept their pasts. They learn how not let their similar pasts affect their futures. Looking forward to reading book 3 in the series.

The story had lots of messages to impart. Glad I read it, but felt the two main characters were extremes in their way of looking at things. Hard to see the reconciliation that it would take to be able in a short time end the way the book indicated.
