Part of the Saurellian Federation series. Sarai has lived through one terrible marriage. The last thing she needs is a new man in her life. But Jax isn’t interested in taking “no” for an answer…
3.5 stars! I thought this was a very cute short story. It is about pilgram, Sarai, who has committment issues due to her previous horrible marriage and Jax is a Saurellian soldier who has found his lifemate in Sarai. Jax is a very sweet, forgiving, alpha-male who tries to win Sarai's heart in every turn. Sarai, on the other hand, keeps pushing Jax away because she doesn't want to be ruled by a man. I thought it got a little annoying that Sarai kept pushing him away, but it was sweet how Jax always tried to get inside her heart.I loved the bond that Jax developed with Sarai's children, Able and Mali. I thought Able was so hilarious and Mali was absolutely adorable. I loved the ending where Mali makes a final wish for Able. What I also loved about this book are the steamy scenes with Sarai and Jax. Joanna Wylde seems to have a knack for steamy scenes in this series. I just thought this book needed a little more angst and drama. All in all it is a very short, but sweet book. I would gladly read it again.
Sarai and Jax's story starts at the end of Price of Pleasure so you should read that first. Sarai's first husband was horrible wife and child abuser and religious extremist who married her at 14 and she killed when she couldn't take his abuse anymore. Now she's met Jax and she's finds it hard to give control of her life over to any man again.
3.5 stars. I liked this story but Sarai seemed almost cruel to Jax. I know she's been through a lot with her past marriage, but it seemed so hurtful I didn't care for that part at all. She did apologize but the stuff that was said was meant to hurt him. Overall, the book was better than average, not as good as Price of Pleasure but close.
Sarai is not quite likable, but she is understandable. Jax is not exactly deep, but he is realistic and instantly loveable. If I had to rank characters by favorites, Able ranks first. Then Jax, then Mali, then the furry mammals in the garden, then obscurely referenced hotel guests, then Sarai. Still combined, theirs is a fun love story that I truly enjoyed.
Overall, this is a solid story. Given the fact that I felt very little connection to the characters, I think Wylde did a wonderful job crafting the tale. Afterall, it's not her fault that I personally didn't love the heroine. There has to be a character for everyone.
This is a good story. I really should have read the first book in the series, but I was still able to understand must of what was going on. I recommend starting with the first book, and giving this series a try!
I really like this author and wish she'd continue this series despite her MC romances taking off big time. This novella wasn't very interesting, but it was a sweet love story.
