In the grips of hurt, anger, desire, and undercover danger, Jamie and Dylan will risk more than broken they’re risking everything to stop an evil fiend from destroying more lives, including their own. From the Paperback edition.
Quick summary Jamie Kendrick was rescued from the hell known as Stanford Reddington's world by LCR. Dylan Savage was the operative that actually located and removed her the night of the rescue. That night, a permanent unspoken bond was created between the two of them, one he was determined to resist and one she was determined to seal.
What I enjoyed I've looked forward to Jamie's story since she emerged in the series. Her history was both intriguing and horrific. Dylan also was appealing as I recalled his thoughts at the moment he rescued her in Spain. It affected him deeply and profoundly. I really liked both of them as she is brave, courageous and resourceful and he is an incredible operative, almost poetic in his abilities.
Where I had issues I just wish the best of both of them showed up in their relationship. He suffered tiresomely from "I'm not good enough for her" because of his tragic childhood (and it's pretty bad) as he saw her through idealistic eyes. It was just so drawn out that I found myself hoping Jamie would just leave him for good.
It was also puzzling as to why Jamie was so adamant about finding Stanford and bringing him to justice on her own. While her inroad was sound, she hadn't a clue as to how to move forward afterward. Her stubbornness was just not plausible, nor was Dylan's plan to get her to share what she knew.
The bottom line Despite these issues, I enjoyed the story, primarily because of all the tension and suspense around the detection and capture of Stanford Reddington and his enterprise. It was chilling at times with interesting revelations. I just wasn't as invested in the romance. 3.5 stars
Sweet Revenge was a good book but not great or as good as some of the other books by this author.
Jamie, McKenna's sister went through hell at the hand of a sadistic monster when LCR and Dylan rescued her. After months of therapy and being disappointed by the legal system Jamie is ready for payback and to bring that man and his organization down one way or another, so she gives LCR boss Noah a chance to help her.
Noah doesn't want her in danger but to placate her tells her he will get her trained, the operative who is her trainer is Dylan, someone who seems to resent her and grunts at her.
Dylan doesn't hate her, instead he is attracted to her but his shitty childhood makes him feel that he isn't what Jamie need so he is an all around jerk more than 90 % of the book and even though I got his reasons didn't mean I had to like him and I didn't really.
Jamie on the other hand was super strong and resilient and even when she finds out LCR tried to dissuade her, does what she knows is needed.
The book wasn't bad but I just couldn't connect with it that much.
"All intimacy is rare – that’s what makes it precious. And it involves the revelation of one’s self and the loving gaze upon another’s true self – that’s what makes it so damn hard. Intimacy requires honesty and kindness in almost equal measure, trust and trustworthiness, forgiveness and the capacity to be forgiven...It’s more than worth it – just don’t let them tell you it’s BLISS." - by Amy Bloom -
3 stars.
Wow, when I was halfway through this book I started to write my review and I was looking for the perfect quote... Near the end of the book I had a good laugh when I was reading THAT:
[...]Dylan stopped abruptly and turned. “What’s the name of this new person I’m training?” McCall’s mouth twitched with a small smile, as if the name of this new employee amused him. “Her name is BLISS.”[...]
Maybe I have a nose for...I know, I know, I got lucky, that’s all – pure coincidence.
Dylan, please read my lips: “You are such a jerk.” I agree – there are a lot of readers who would say that you’re a very likeable jerk but a jerk nonetheless! Another guy who’s afraid of his feelings and therefore acts cold and condescending towards a likeable heroine. Gosh, Dylan, may I hit you? I really, really would like to do that! Do you remember what Jamie did? No, then please...I’m gonna jog someone’s memory.
Jamie kneed him in his groin and later she asked him:
[...]“Are your testicles okay?” In the midst of swinging the ax down, he missed the wood completely. The blade lodged with a thud into the tree stump. He whirled around, his expression one of incredulity. “Excuse me?” A fire-red blush heated her cheeks. Okay, so it was probably an inappropriate question. No, not probably...it was an inappropriate question. Aunt Mavis was probably doing triple spins in her grave.[...]
Yeah, 'LITTLE' Jamie got balls and 'BIG' Dylan was rather impressed.
I’m going to switch to a brief synopsis.
The villain Stanford Reddington is into slave trading and human trafficking. The heroine, Jamie Kendrick, was abducted by a maniac and was sold to Reddington and his son, Lance. Book 8 of the LCR series starts out with Dylan Savage rescuing Jamie Kendrick in Bustarviejo, Spain. Unfortunately, Reddington was not convicted. Jamie is disappointed but she doesn’t like to be a victim, therefore she wants revenge. Jamie meets McCall and asks for his help. She wants to get trained as an LCR operative and wants to be a part of bringing down the villain, Reddington. First, Noah opposes vehemently, but when he realizes that he can’t change her mind, he decides that Dylan will train and supervise Jamie.
Dylan helps Jamie to achieve a higher level of physical fitness and he’s teaching her self-defense skills. Overall, Jamie has something that couldn’t be taught. She has an innate determination and resiliency. Each day he puts her through intense and grueling workouts. And while they are working out, the chemistry and sexual tension keeps them on their toes. During those months they’re spending at the cabin, Dylan infuriates Jamie but he makes her confident and happy, too. She’s glowing! Until he does something bad and hurts her. Yeah, Dylan you didn’t want to hurt her but you did it nonetheless. And Jamie felt a bone deep hurt and betrayal. She leaves and is determined to accomplish her plan without the help of LCR.
Memorable "quote":
[...]He clicked the watch as soon as she landed from her last jump. Hell. “One second faster than last time. What’s gotten into you?” Giving him a sultry, confident look, she walked slowly toward him. Dylan’s heart pounded and his body tightened, going stone hard. She stopped inches from him and said softly, “What’s gotten into me? I would think that’s an obvious answer."[...] Ehm, if there’s anyone who doesn’t know what THAT means, I’d be pleased to enlighten you – any time!
I truly liked the training part at the cabin. That was fun to read and of course at times also annoying because of this stubborn, cold, and infuriating specimen of a hero. They even had good chemistry.
I had a few issues with this book. Everything stands and falls with the male hero because I’m into men...I didn’t love the hero. In fact, I even had a hard time to like him at all. I don’t want to be mean, therefore I gave him his chance to redeem himself. And he...failed pitifully. The ending sealed the deal for me. This happened like that: hero comes to the cabin, is surprised by the presence of heroine, SNARLS (yes, actually snarls!!) at heroine, grumbles something about not being good enough for heroine, heads off to bed, vanishes in the morning, and then surprise...comes back...yeah, what does he bring the heroine? A shiny gem! How convenient! And way too cheesy for my liking. And for the first time in his life he says "I love you". Yeah, and before THAT he often treats her very, very badly (actually, I wanted to use a stronger word). I’m sorry, but that’s just not good enough. I know he did it in the name of protecting the heroine but did he really have to act like a jerk?
Furthermore, I wanted more relationship development, more depth. Halfway through this book I got more and more annoyed and almost everything went down the drain. Additionally, I struggled to believe that an elementary school teacher is really able to head off to this island and bring down such an evil creature. That seemed a bit far-fetched. But hey, that’s fiction. And there’s one scene when she speaks about her ordeal...he comforts her and I thought "Oh, he can be nice." And what does he? He dumps her!! I wanted to smack him! Ehm, Dylan, this advice comes for free: Use your sexy, persuasive voice on a daily basis on 'your' woman and not to charm the woman at the front desk. Jeez, will I ever live this down? It’s not a bad childhood that defines us. It certainly influences us but we are responsible to define ourselves and we grow along the way. Sometimes I regret bygone times and that’s THE MOMENT TO SAY THAT I WANT COLE AND ETHAN BACK. I loved those two guys! And I think that’s the moment to say "Barbara, hold your horses!" Yeah, but I gained this momentum and it’s good to let some steam off. I’ve read way better books by this author and therefore I just expect more.
Sweet Revenge left me with a sourly taste in my mouth and I’d have preferred it the other way round.
"Revenge is sweet and not fattening." Alfred Hitchcock
In a case of mistaken identity, Jamie Kendrick is abducted and abused by a maniac - then sold to another madman for his evil son's pleasure. Dylan Savage, an operative working for Last Chance Rescue serves as her knight-in-shining-armor when he rescues her from Stanford Reddington's grip. Because of his wealth and influential associates, Reddington remains free of all charges. Now Jamie wants revenge for what was done to her, but even more importantly she wants this monster locked away where he can never hurt anyone again. Justice will be her sweetest revenge of all.
Armed with a few secrets of her own, Jamie seeks assistance from Noah McCall, the head of Last Chance Rescue, to prepare her physically for a face-off with her abuser. When Noah balks at Jamie's plans for revenge, she issues a "with or without your help" ultimatum. Confronted with his choices, Noah McCall agrees and assigns Dylan the job of training Jamie. What is unknown to Jamie is that neither Noah or Dylan have any intention of letting her play the avenging angel. The training is only a pretext for getting the information she keeps to herself and keeping her safe while LCR takes down Reddington alone.
No plan is ever failsafe and this one blows up in Dylan's face when he underestimates his trainee's strength and willpower as his own falters when he and Jamie become intimate. Their chemistry is sizzling and the author's extremely well-written dialogue between the lovers sweetly intensifies each encounter.
From the first page to the last, you are caught up in a story masterfully thredded with danger and desire. Emotionally intense, positively captivating, heart-wrenching and drool-worthy, the love story between Jamie and Dylan is one that won’t disappoint those of us who enjoy a full-impact romance. This couple is irresistible, their romance a memorable one, and their HEA perfect!
SWEET REVENGE is an unforgettable story, with an equally unforgettable cast of characters. You want to savor each and every detail. As with all the other books in this series, reappearances by former characters add an extra dose of sweetness to this one as well. Still going strong and packing a wallop of a punch, the 8th book in the popular "Last Chance Rescue" series exemplifies all the reasons why I'm a huge fan of both the series and its author, who, in my opinion, writes some of the very best romantic suspense on the market today.
Jamie's initial thoughts about Dylan: How could one man be so gorgeously handsome, so wonderfully heroic, so seemingly kind, but so incredibly obnoxious, rude and, well, just generally an asshole?
That's Dylan! He has incredible moments of sweetness towards Jamie followed by that damn "hero thinking" - you know how they are - thinking he wasn't good enough for Jamie, she could do so much better than him, and deciding that staying away from her is what's best...for her. I wanted to hug him and slug him all at once. But even with his moments, I really enjoyed this story. Jamie struggles with her previous capture and assault and vows to make Reddington and his son pay. She puts herself out there, endures tough training courtesy of Dylan, and she has a plan. No one and nothing is going to get in her way, and she's a pretty gutsy heroine.
Dylan has such a horrible, horrific past - his parents were drunks and it goes just down, down, downhill from there. He made it through, and it takes him a long time to open up to Jamie. They're a great couple and my favorite parts of their story were the scenes when Dylan was training Jamie. Their scenes are hot, but I equally enjoyed the scenes with Jamie when she was able to complete the obstacle courses and prove to Dylan and herself that she was strong and tough.
Have to mention everyone's favorite matchmaker, Noah. He had a great scene with Dylan talking about Samara and what she means to him. So. Sweet!
Very nice read, looking forward to Jared's book, the last in this trilogy.
Another great addition. Though I haven't been floored by any LCR books, I've got to say that at this point, I'm very impressed. Each book has stood on its own and each couple is firmly entrenched into my romantic suspense library. (The one in my head) I feel comfortable in Last Chance Rescue world, and it's been nice getting to know all of those involved in the organization.
This one's notable difference was its lack of gruesome rape/molestation. The idea was there, and I knew that the bad guy had done some of these horrible things, but for once I didn't have to have all of the scenes spelled out for me. Rather, I got to be quietly disgusted and still able to focus on the romance of the couple. I know in LCR 7, I was so turned off by the villain that I nearly forgot about the lovers.
One complaint I have is that it ended with a lot of unanswered questions about the many side characters: Raphael and Giselle, the evil dude's wife and younger daughter. Maybe we'll get more in the last LCR book. I'm definitely looking forward to it!!
Jaime Kendrick, was one of the victims in "Last Chance" she was mistaken for another women when she was abducted. When the perverted SOB bastard Hughes realizes she's not the woman he's looking for, he sells Jaime to another pervert, Mr. Reddington. Reddington, gives Jaime to his sick and twisted Son, Lance as his new sex toy slave for him and his friends to enjoy. *shivers with disgust*
Last Chance Rescue goes on an op to find Jaime Kendrick. Dylan Savage is one of the operators who busts in with his heroic self, and saves Jaime from more brutality that was bound to happen till he arrived.
Now that time has passed and Jaime has had time to heal physically and mentally, she wants revenge. After hearing Reddington was set loose from jail with no charges. Jaime goes to LCR with a plan. In return of giving LCR information she's withheld to find Reddington to put him away forever, she wants in on the op and be trained by the finest LCR operators. Lovely Noah McCall has his hands full with Jaime, she's determined to do whatever it takes, with or without LCR. Noah makes a decision, put her in harms way, or teach her? He finds the perfect person for the job. Dylan Savage *Squees in excitement*
Dylan is hardcore! Getting him to open and be nice to someone is not his persona. His MO is minding his business doing his job, moving forward and most importantly putting the fear in his enemies eyes. Whew! *rubs eyebrow* Dayum is so sexy with his grumpy bad ass self!
I think Dylan was pretty damn rough with Jaime and always finding away to hurt her feelings. But everything happens for a reason. Jaime toughens up with her heart and training methods. She's no longer that chick that's too afraid to swap a fly. She's tough and determined to do whatever it takes to do the job of closing down Reddington's Human Trafficking business and put him in jail for along time.
The hardest part of the novel for me, was listening to Dylan's horrific story he shares only with Jaime. And Jaime's story of what Lance, Reddinton's son did to her, it was degrading. Dylan is and always be Jaime's Halo! Such a sweet couple with a darkness only the two can embrace and understand each other to move forward. Awe!!! Dylan and Jaime *heart melting* They make falling in love so complicated but oh so irresistible. They're such spunky badass's! Okay someone pinch me, I'm in a dream world.Lol! I just really loved this novel.
One more thing, that had me clutching my heart and I couldn't believe it. Mr.Reddington's wife, Sarah, takes charge. My heart ached for her, I'm just in awe for the woman who spent so many years with this sick bastard. Finally her and her children are safe.It was incredible and the second best part of this novel.
Favorite Quote, and just picture, their in bed naked, you know what happened next *winks* hehehe....
Jaime:"You love your job, and you're damn good at it." Dylan: But I love you more"
OH Goodness! To get Dylan to let loosen up and say those words had me in awe and gaping with my mouth wide open! Lol!! Love it, Loving it, Loved it!!!!!!
The eighth book in the Last Chance Rescue series. I love Christy Reece but this one didn't quite stand up to her usual standards in my opinion. The beginning was slow and it was hard for me to keep reading at times. Thankfully, it sped up about halfway in and I was able to continue and finish it.
This was a hard one for me to get through. It was a fast read but not for good reasons, I mainly just wanted to get it over with instead of enjoying each page and development. We met Jamie in her sister's, McKenna's book, when she was mistaken for her and kidnapped and tortured then sold. I had high hopes for Jamie and Dylan's book, but alas, it was kind of a letdown. I empathize for the both of them individually, how horrible their childhoods were, but together as adults, they were frustrating and annoying in some of their decisions making.
Months after her rescue, Jamie returns to Paris to ask Noah to train her. Her motive, to get the man (Stanford Reddington) who bought her for his son's sick pleasures. I understood her need for justice, but she wasn't forthcoming with information that could've gotten LCR to get to Reddington sooner. Instead, she spent months training with Dylan, who ran hot and cold towards Jamie more often than a menopausal woman. I couldn't connect with either of them or their romance. The suspense wasn't as good as previous book in the series.
The first half of the book was tedious and slow but the second half was better, which saved the ratings for me.
More a 3.5 star rating, but rounding up. A 3.5 star by Christy Reece, as another reviewer said, is still a good book by a good author. Her standards raise the bar for many other authors in the Romantic Suspense genre.
This is the eighth of a 10-book series, and many characters reappear. I do recommend the Last Chance Rescue series for those who like this genre, with the caveat that there are some gritty topics and the usual HEA expected, even when the path is not smooth by any chance!
Another Reece winner! I loved D and J's complicated relationship, Jamie's smart mouth, and her habit of saying off the wall things when nervous. Once again, LCR goes up against the worst kind of villain. Highly recommended!
On the plus side, this book has one of my favourite tropes - the "training to be an ubercompetent agent, with one of the leads training the other" plot thread. And Jamie pretty much epitomised the broken competence trope that I love so much as well.
On the other, Dylan was NOT my favourite LCR lead - yes, he has reasons for being the way he is, but the whole 'emotionally constipated male lead' thing is overdone enough to be boring. Not to mention that I was getting whiplash from his constant, apparently random running hot and cold. It was at a level where I just didn't buy that he had any real feelings for Jamie - it read more like displaced guilt and childhood trauma that required intense therapy, rather than anything that actually related to Jamie as a person. I would have enjoyed this a lot more if he'd been capable of communicating like a grown-ass adult.
That said, despite my issues with Dylan, I did end up enjoying the story as a whole, and when the two of them FINALLY started working as a team in the last 20-25% of the book, it made for compelling reading. Plus I really enjoyed the sisterly dynamics between McKenna and Jamie.
So I'd rate this midway a low 4-star, but a 4-star all the same. And I'm looking forward to getting on with the next LCR book soon.
Eighth in the Last Chance Rescue series. The couple focus is on Jamie Kendrick and Dylan Savage.
My Take This one had my heart in my mouth a few times!
The prologue provides a review of events in Last Chance, so we fully understand why this revenge is so sweet.
This particular story is just another reason why I think parents should be licensed. Talk about perpetuating the cycle!
It's a double obstacle course for Jamie. Dylan expects her to accomplish near-impossible physical requirements. But Jamie is determined to pass the LCR requirements and get Dylan into her bed. It's a tough one. Dylan wants her able and confident, but in a normal life. NOT as an LCR operative in any way.
I get rather irritated with these heroes/heroines who think they're not good enough for someone simply because their parent(s) were jerks. They're usually intelligent people, so I'd be very surprised if they hadn't heard of nature versus nurture, and they never take into account their own actions as adults. Although, once you do hear Dylan's family story, you can't help but cry to realize the guilt that poor boy has carried for so long.
Ooh, that's a nasty little twist Reece puts in when Bruno has to talk to Karen just before the fights. You almost want him to win.
Nasty little surprise at the end.
The Story It's a beautiful start with McKenna finally marrying Lucas Kane (read their encounters in No Chance and Last Chance).
It's Jamie's desire for revenge after the wedding that sets the ball in motion. Noah and Dylan are determined to train her so hard that she drops her idea. Only, they don't know Jamie very well.
And one betrayal deserves another.
The Characters The very stubborn and resourceful Jamie Kendrick is recovering from her kidnapping in Last Chance. An ordeal made easier by her sister, McKenna Sloan, who is marrying Lucas Kane. Jared Livingston is Lucas' best man. Conrad is Lucas' butler and also standing up for Lucas at the wedding.
Dylan Savage was one of the LCR operatives on the Kendrick rescue mission. And as much as he tries to stay away from Jamie, he can't. John Wheeler is an alias he uses to insinuate himself into Reddington's circle.
Noah McCall is the head of Last Chance Rescue; he's married to Samara, and they have a son, Micah. He walks McKenna down the aisle. Other wedding guests/LCR operatives include Gabe Maddox with his wife, Skylar James; Shea and Ethan Bishop; Cole and Keeley Mathison with their twin daughters, Hannah and Hailey; Eden and Jordan Montgomery with Paulo, their newly adopted little boy; Aidan Thorne; and, Angela.
Raphael Sanchez keeps showing up in LCR. First when he helped Cole escape (Run to Me) and again when he got word to LCR about Jamie (Last Chance). But now he's safely tucked away with a full scholarship to a university in the U.S.
Stanford Reddington is one of the über-wealthy and gained mostly on the backs of the women and children he's had kidnapped and sold as sex slaves. He's a completely disgusting pervert who holds his family incommunicado on his island. Sarah is his compliant wife of twenty-four years, and they have four children: Lancelot who is being groomed to enter his father's business---and pleasures; Giselle for whom Stanford has already picked the husband he wants for her; Amelia is much in need of a new teacher; and, Eric is the youngest.
Armando is Reddington's right hand. So far. Armando and Reddington have some interesting job testing techniques. Bruno is one of the bodyguards. With an interest in Mrs. Jennings. Joseph is in charge on the island.
Karen Jennings is the new teacher Mrs. Reddington has hired for her daughter. She doesn't know it, but her job is permanent.
The Cover The cover is pinks and oranges casting a glow from the sun setting behind the point of land, and a shirtless Dylan leaning up against the trunk of a palm tree.
The title is indeed about a Sweet Revenge when wrongs can be prevented and paid back.
I have been waiting for Dylan's story for a while and I wasn't disappointed. There was also a twist I did not foresee. I can't wait to see how this new relationship forges ahead in the next books. Well worth your time and money!!
Although I enjoyed this book alot, I struggled with the beginning somewhat. Purely for reasons that irritated me due to one of the MC’s, Dylan Savage. Seriously, I have days I just want to climb into a book and shake the crap out of some people! Don’t get me wrong though, he’s not a bad guy, he just has a lot of ‘I’m a jerk’ moments….and they are strangle worthy in my opinion. :D
We met Jamie Kendrick (McKenna’s sister) in ‘Last Chance’ which is the last book in the 2nd LCR Trilogy. She was abducted by a maniac who sold her to an evil bastard for his son’s entertainment! Dylan who is an LCR operative, rescues her, at the right time. One more day and she would have been raped by Lancelot (Lance) Reddington. Stanford Reddington is undoubtedly pond scum, scum of the earth or part of the dregs of humanity – pick one, or all. He’s in the slave/human trafficking business. Urgh. After her ordeal she finds out that all charges against Reddington have been dropped due to the lack of proof. Great.
From the moment Jamie is rescued by Dylan, she is smitten and so is he. He just won’t admit it. They’ve parted ways and Jamie can’t stop thinking about him. She approaches Noah McCall, the head of LRC and asks him about training. She wants to be a part of this vile man’s takedown which Noah is totally against. He’s given first refusal but she’s adamant that whether he helps her or not, she will do what is necessary. Besides, she believes that if she’d had training the first time around, she probably wouldn’t have been taken. Noah wants to know how she plans on infiltrating Reddington’s residence but Jamie is one step ahead. First the training, then she spills what she knows. He warns her that to proceed she must let McKenna know before she embarks on her honeymoon and he needs clearance from her doctor. He will then let Dylan know. Yes, he’s going to be her trainer.
Enter Dylan Savage once again. Right from the get go, he’s just arrogant. Back and forth they go with Dylan’s purpose really being, get the info LCR needs, as there is no way in hell they are going to let Jamie become involved. She knows more than she’s let on. She’s being used I guess but at the same time, I understand LCR’s concerns. Firstly, she’s not trained although it’s now being provided for her, and secondly she’s a school teacher for goodness’ sakes. Even with all the training, she is just not cut out to confront these kinds of people. She will end up getting herself killed. About play is fair though as she held up her side of the bargain and told Noah how it’s possible to infiltrate Reddington’s residence, yet she’s kept back further information. I can understand why a lot of people have said that she’s TSTL, yet I get that for once, she wants to be the strong one and prohibit this vile being from further continuing destroying innocent lives. She needs to be involved and once she’s accomplished what she sets out to do, she can then put it behind her. Again, some find it hard to believe that a school teacher would actually have the nerve to head off to an island and try take down someone such as Reddington. If you really think about it and put yourself in a situation such as this, surely the anger that’s built up inside gives you or makes you feel you have the strength it takes to accomplish something this enormous. Strength comes from within and often times, we are stronger than we believe whether we are a mere school teacher, a black belt or Conan the Barbarian. The need is the same.
Towards the end of the book when Dylan finally opens up and explains to Jamie all about his past, one starts to feel sorry for him, what it doesn’t do however, is excuse his behaviour. The book concludes with Jamie having managed to find work at Reddington’s residence without LCR or McKenna’s knowledge. However much she hates Reddington, she finds that his wife and children with the exception of Lance, are actually normal, lovely people. I found it sad that Reddington has kept his family on this island, sequestered from the rest of the world, for years. What you learn about his wife, Sarah, is heart wrenching. With the unexpected help of someone on the island, Jamie is able to get what she needs. Dylan of course has managed to work his way into becoming one of Reddington’s chief ‘snatchers’ and is eventually taken to meet this low life. In addition to Jamie and Dylan, Raphael has once again made his way onto the island by invitation no less for purely different reasons. But that’s for you to read about.
All in all, about 65% of the way in, the story really picked up and I found myself not being so infuriated with Dylan as I was coming to understand more and more of what had gone before. Still, he seriously needed a good smack or something. As for Jamie, I loved her. She’s just so sweet, you could hug her to death.
There is one more left in his LCR trilogy (the 3rd), Sweet Reward. Let’s see what happens….I know it’s about Jared Livingston and Mia. Will be sad when the series comes to an end but who knows, maybe Christy Reece will add a 4th trilogy to it? ;)
My Review: I think that Jamie qualifies as one of my most favorite heroines ever and she is perfectly matched up with Dylan, another one of Christy Reece's amazing heroes from Last Chance Rescue. Jamie is a rescuee that was abducted and abused for two months. BUT she is an extremely strong character. She grew up in a very difficult childhood and learned how to compartmentalize. As a result, she is out for revenge especially after the human trafficker that took her gets off completely from all of his charges, simply because of his political clout.
Dylan was Jamie's rescuer and when Jamie comes to LCR with her plan for revenge, Noah puts Dylan in charge of her training and her subterfuge. See, LCR fully wants to catch this bad-guy, but they don't want Jamie involved in the op. The problem is that she is determined and will enact her own plan if they don't cooperate with her. So Noah has charged Dylan with training her and keeping her occupied while LCR does their work. She is smart. She is savvy. She proves her toughness over and over again. Jamie is the perfect kick-ass chick in a school teachers, girl-next-door persona. I love that!
Jamie has been completely infatuated with Dylan ever since her rescue. He has had the same issue, but is better at hiding it than she is. Dylan had his own absolutely wretched upbringing and knows that he's not fit for any kind of relationship. As a result, he holds Jamie at arms length throughout her training by being gruff and, at times, almost hateful in his treatment of her. I had a little bit harder time connecting with his character because he is so completely cold to her so much of the time. Even when you knew he didn't mean it or want to hurt her, it was still painful to read some of the time. The thing that makes this almost acceptable is how Jamie can deal with it. This girl is tough. Even when her heart is breaking, she maintains her control and outward calm about the situation.
This was an interesting book. I have read all of Christy Reece's LCR books and am a huge fan. I have always said that she writes the best evil, low-down bad guys. This book was different because you got to see so much of the human side of the bad guy. You saw his remorse over punishing those around him. It was almost a little sickening to realize that you could feel pity for this guy and his sickness. You get to know his entire family (and honestly fall in love with all those characters) who don't know what is really involved behind the scenes of his life. It was an interesting dichotomy. I have a feeling that we will see a lot more of his daughter Giselle in a few years down the road (at least I hope so....her & Raphael...yes, we need that HEA.)
Firstly, I have to say that I have found a NEW, AMAZING Author in Christy Reece. And Secondly, I have to say that I might just like Sweet Revenge better than Sweet Justice....or MAYBE EVEN!!
I loved the timeline of Sweet Revenge...The whole story doesn't take place over three days but months. Cristy sucks you in at the first page and then brings you along on a Very Suspenseful, Very Emotional journey with Jamie and Dylan.
I LOVED Jamie as the heroine. She was sweet and somewhat...reserved..might be the word, and she has had SO many bad things happen to her, but she never lets them bring her down. She has a VERY strong mind and she pushes through the pain because if she lets it take her, she will lose herself, and that is NOT ok with her.
Dylan...AHH...the Stong, Silent type. I loved early on when he would use a grunt or a one word answer, for like weeks at a time. I would have been screaming by day one!! He is the best kind of HERO you could want to write about. Hurt by the past, strong protector and VERY SEXY!! I really like Dylan and his integrity. He may have hurt Jamie at times, but he was always thinking about her safety, first and foremost, even if she wanted to kick some bad-guy ASS!! And this Villian needed more than just an Ass Kicking....I believe he got what he deserved...and his sick, perverted SON!! haha!!
So Christy, I am looking forward to what you have next for us with Sweet Reward, and I hope you continue to write books so that your fans can keep devouring them!! Always love the HEA!!
Wonderful story about a woman (Jamie) who is kidnapped and sold to a human slave ring. She is rescued by Last Chance Rescue (headed by the delectable Noah) It is in a heartbeat that Jamie meets and falls for her key rescuer Dylan. And though Dylan feels the same, he has to treat Jamie like just another rescue, his heart is not for the taking. Yet once Jamie heals from the kidnapping and selling (during which some terrible things happened to her - though this is only alluded to by the author and no real detail is given except for the beatings) she returns to the office of LCR and demands that she be trained to take care of herself as she has a plan in mind for making her kidnapper pay(who was arrested but has wonderfully manipulated the system into thinking that he is the victim not Jamie. Noah has an idea that if she is trained that will keep her distracted while his LCR people instead grab info on the kidnapper to bring him down. And so Jamie is paired with Dylan. For a few months they train and of course the (happily) inevitable happens. Though Jamie is totally in love, Dylan has some issues and eventually Jamie walks out deciding she will have nothing to do with him. However, she has a plan up her sleeve that will bring her both justice and Dylan. A good read but a little slow in places, hot romance and even better action.
Jamie Kendrick begins her training with Last Chance Rescue (LCR) operative, Dylan Savage. She has a plan of revenge against the evil Reddington who had abducted her, a man who deals in human trafficking. He is a wealthy and powerful man in Spain who up until now has gotten away with his evil deeds. Dylan has been emotionally hurt in the past and continuously fights his attraction to Jamie. Now he is assigned by LCR to train her. He thinks she is not strong enough for the task she has set, and hopes to discourage her and see her fail. He doesn’t realize how determined she is to bring Reddington down.
Dylan is rude and antagonist toward Jamie. Even so, she is attracted to him. He hopes to find out what her plan is toward Reddington, but doesn’t want her to get tangled up with him. Dylan goes undercover and another operative for LCR, Rafael Sanchez, finds the illusive Reddington.
A slow beginning, Dylan is not a likeable character. He wants to protect Jamie from further harm but is antagonistic to her and tries to keep his distance. There is more action in the second half of the book as the LCR operatives get involved in trying to get the goods on Reddington which makes a more interesting tale. They get help from an unexpected source.
We first met Jamie Kendrick in her sister's book Last Chance. She had been beaten and sold to Stanford Reddington. Dylan Savage was part of the team that saved her.
5 months later Dylan begins to train Jamie to be a LCR operative. Jamie's out for revenge against Reddington as he has gotten away with what he did to her and was still running human trafficking of women business.
Dylan is a very closed off character and has fought his attraction to Jamie all along. But during the training he can no longer fight it and finally gives in. But in the end he pushes her away for what he thinks is her own good. He thinks she has gone on to live her nice quite life teaching at a school in the states..
Months later they both run into each other at the home of Stanford Reddington. Where she is undercover as on of Stanford's children's teachers and he as Stanford new protege.
Here with the help of Reddington's wife they are finally able to get what they need to put him away for a long time. But after all the excitement is over Dylan who still feels like Jamie is too good for him walks away.. So is there a HEA?? Read the book :)
wow what a great story... at some point i will learn to expect to want to slap the men in this series so they come to their senses. The hero in this story is another thick headed but fabulously wonderful man. Hero is definitely the best word for him in every sense. Our heroine is a lady we can all aspire to be. Taking the bull by the horns and making sure that the wrongs done to her cannot be done to another. passionate and humorous this story was so much fun to read as Dylan digs himself deeper into love while still fighting it very step of the way. Jamie tries hard to overcome her doubts and finally accepts that shell have to take initiative if she wants her man. A rescue leads to love in this newest LCR story and leaves you beggin for more even as you find yourself closing the book at the end. CANNOT wait for the last in this trilogy and hope hope hope for more in the LCR family.
