Former Houston Detective Seth Cavanaugh has to suddenly and brutally sever his relationship with FBI Agent Honor Stone in order to protect her. Now it's five years later and she's an LCR operative and he needs their help in finding his niece who's disappeared. They're thrown together for the mission and both are struggling with their unresolved feelings.

I loved these two characters and how they dealt with each other when they were forced to reconnect. Theirs was a mature relationship and neither shied away from being honest and forthright about their feelings...no silly, drawn out drama...just two people struggling to cope and communicate while on the job.

The case was unusual in that it focused on a delusional and dangerous cult leader, unknown to anyone. Finding the connections was problematic and the realities inside the commune were hideous. The ending was exciting, as always, and Honor was particularly impressive. I loved the romance and the suspense surrounding this investigation. Everything worked! 4.5 stars

Sweet Justice is the start of the third Last Chance Trilogy and a brilliant start it is. Honor is someone we have met before, she works for the Child Abduction Unit of the FBI and is dedicated but when she nearly dies, she decides to do what she has bee contemplating for a while join LCR.

Five years before Honor got involved with Seth Cavanaugh, a cop who left the force under suspicion and started a restaurant business, what Honor didn't know that even before he met her Seth had committed his life to a new path, a path that had him going undercover and appearing to be a slime to all his family to catch a criminal, what he never counted on was Honor or falling in love with her. He ended it with her, for her protection preferring she hate him, than be harmed.

Now, his case is over but he's no longer the same, he has been in the filth too long, his family and the closeness they shared can never be re-captured despite them knowing the truth now. He still thinks about Honor but doesn't regret what he did, then he gets a call, his niece is missing and as it turns out that leads him to LCR, Honor and missing women.

Honor doesn't know what to make of Seth's appearance, for her peace of mind she never followed what happened with him. He broke her heart but she sees the trust Noah (LCR owner)has in him, they start working together and the truth comes out but Honor is not willing to put her heart on the line again and forgive, Seth should have given her a chance.

The attraction sparkles between and Christy sure knows how to give us sizzling scenes, angst and tension. Seth has suffered and knows he is not the same man anymore.

I loved seeing these two find their way to each other and the suspense part was really good. I despised the really creepy cult leader who thought he was God and tried to mould women.

The next book is something I am really looking forward to since it is Jamie's. But do read Christy's books, they have a perfect blend of romance, suspense and sizzling characters.

4 ½ stars – Romantic Suspense

This is another thrilling addition to Christy Reece’s excellent Last Chance Rescue series. With tortured, survivor heroes and heroines, creepy villains, chilling plotlines, intense, action-packed suspense, and steamy romance, LCR is one of my favorite romantic suspense series, and it’s still going strong after seven books. I can’t wait for Dylan’s and Jamie’s story, Sweet Revenge, next!

I highly recommend this series for romantic suspense fans of authors like Roxanne St. Claire, Karen Rose, Allison Brennan, and Jami Alden. Although the series is best read in order, this particular story could work well as a standalone read.

The romance part of this rom-suspense novel was excellent, evenly balanced with the suspense all the way through. As always Christy Reece solidly delivers in bk 7 of the LCR series. Actually this is the start of her 3rd trilogy, although I would think a new reader would be lost without starting at the beginning with Rescue Me. Even though I knew Seth and Honor would get their HEA, I found myself anxious for their relationship. Every hero in this series is I want one heart thumping fantastic, Seth goes down as one of my favorites. His incredible commitment and self sacrifice..Losing his family, his love and a part of himself all for the sake of justice. Okay – and the fact that he was OMG hot, sexy, giving and adorable doesn’t hurt my admiration for him either. The guy had skills. His angst at wanting to go all alpha and protect Honor was heart melting. The suspense while exciting and a non-stop action thrill, the villain(s) were so disgustingly creepy it was hard to read. I found myself cringing when having to read the parts about that evil Alden and that vile Tabitha. This duo was off the charts offensive on so many levels. What a mind screw for CR to even come up with this plot and then having to write it in detail. Props CR for the extreme creepy. Not sure I’d re-read this bk due to the squee factor, however, the love scenes between Seth and Honor deserve a re-visit.

Five years previously, Seth and Honor had fallen in love at the worst possible time -- during the start of a deep cover sting that Seth knows will pretty much destroy his life, if it doesn’t end it completely. Fearing for Honor’s safety, he ruthlessly broke it off with her.

Now Seth is out of the undercover operation, but still not back to anything resembling normal life. But when his college-aged niece disappears, apparently one in a series of missing young women, Seth is forced to turn to Last Chance Rescue for help in finding her -- the organization where Honor now works.

I enjoyed this as a reunion romance; neither Seth nor Honor has ever gotten over the other, but there’s a lot of pain and mistrust they need to work through before they can truly be together. Their feelings for each other are essential to the plot, especially at one point when Honor is in terrible danger: “Though the room was dark, Honor closed her eyes and thought about Seth... Keeping him at the forefront, she knew without a doubt, she could survive whatever these monsters threw at her. Seth would be her light in the darkness.”

I also liked that, despite a premise in which women are inherently victimized, there are portrayals of strong women in the story, and Honor is no helplessly waiting for rescue by Seth.

The rest of the book didn’t work as well for me. The villains here are seriously upsetting: incestuous, sadistic murderers and rapists. Their operation is not very plausible but more importantly, I didn’t feel the story had enough emotional depth to balance out how truly sickening they are. (The details aren’t graphic but still, this is not for the squeamish.) Another downside was that several interesting threads just peter out. There was what seemed to be an interesting subplot in which one member of the LCR team becomes obsessed with one of the missing women, a plain, shy girl who no one had noticed missing for weeks. This was then abruptly dropped. We see one of the more resourceful kidnapped girls escaping and follow her adventures for awhile. Then this too is dropped.

This is 7th in the overall series and the first in the 3rd three book set. I haven’t read any of the others, but didn’t feel at all lost. I enjoyed it enough to give the author another try, though if meglomaniac evil villains are a recurring theme, she's probably not for me.

In the debut novel of her third trilogy, Christy Reece churns out yet another fantastic opener. I absolutely devoured this book. It’s my favorite kind of romance, where the hero and heroine are reunited or share a past history. Reece easily conveys their feelings, the heartbreak and the love, from both the past and present. It is fantastic. The two reminded me a little of Gabe and Skylar of No Chance and Sweet Justice truly gives that one a run for its spot as my favorite Reece book. With no secondary storyline, the book focuses solely on Seth/Honor and the mission to rescue the missing female college students. As for the kidnapping, I liked the type of villain/enemy that she chose and how the story progressed in a believable way.

I really enjoy how Reece has set up her LCR books in separate, but connected trilogies. The books retain the common thread of the organization, its goals, and habit of reuniting lovers.

Great reunited lovers story within Reece's Last Chance Rescue world. The hero, Sean's, niece has gone missing from her college in Iowa and he seeks LCR's help to find her. What he doesn't know is that Honor, the woman whose love he sacrificed years ago for an undercover op, now works for LCR and will be heading up the team looking for his niece. The blurb read as if Honor spends the whole book in deep undercover inside a cult leader's compound, which was, thankfully, not the case. Instead there's a lot of investigative work and sexytimes leading up to the discovery of the compound and the high octane rescue. Totally satisfying romance and an excellent glimpse inside the mind of a charismatic, creepy cult leader. Since this is the 7th book the the series, but my first, I've got some delicious backlist to devour! Which I plan to do ASAP!

Review posted: Happily Ever After - Reads

5 years earlier:

She’d held out her hand and given him a small, simple smile. That’s all it had taken for him to fall in love with her.

Silently, he’d pulled her out onto the postage-sized-dance floor and, holding her close, started to dance. Instead of telling him to back off, that he was going too fast, holding her too tight, Honor had put her head on his shoulder and glided with him around the small space.

Later, he’d asked her why she’d gone into his arms so easily. A mysterious smile had curved her beautiful, lush mouth, but she had never answered the question. Seth had instantly forgotten what that question was. When Honor smiled…He’d trade an entire fortune, if he had one, for one of her smiles.

Sweet Justice starts out 5 years ago with Honor and Seth together in a relationship that has so much promise, Honor thinks he’s the one. They’re both in love, but Seth’s life is beyond complicated. He’s forced to push away his family, his friends, and Honor all to be able to bring down one man for life. He has to lie to everyone that he loves and make sure that they believe the worst in him – and they do. He breaks Honor’s heart, breaking his own in the process, but it’s the only way he knows to protect her.

Honor has tried to move on for the past 5 years. She worked for the FBI, but after working with Last Chance Rescue on a few cases, she finally caves to Noah’s offer and joins LCR. Even though she was crushed when Seth left her, she’s tried hard to move past him, which makes her very career focused but she’s never been able to connect with another guy and hasn’t really tried.

With Seth’s original reason for pushing his family and friends away over, he’s finding that their forgiveness for lying to them may never come. He’s isolated himself in Florida until his brother calls him frantic that Kelli, Seth’s niece, has been missing for days. Seth has the background to help find her and when all the leads he comes up with dead end, he calls LCR for their help.

Our favorite match maker Noah puts Honor as the lead on the case for finding Seth’s niece. Honor and Seth go from a sweet relationship with tons of potential, to heartache and now they’re thrown back together to find not only Kelli, but other young women who’ve gone missing. For Seth, he’s never stopped loving Honor and when he comes clean about why he did what he did all those years ago, she struggles at first with it, and rightfully so. I liked that while she understood why he did it, she still had a lot issues with how he handled everything and it takes some time for them to work through it all. Which is hard to do when you’re trying to track down an unknown person(s) who’s abducting women from all over the country.

I really enjoyed the relationship between Honor and Seth. I like the setup of these two having had a strong connection in the past that was broken and watching them find their way back together. Honor’s very hesitant and initially only agrees to be with him through the duration of the case, she just can’t risk her heart to him again. I thought their relationship took a nice path through the book, nothing is resolved easily and slowly things start to mend between them once the truth about what was going on comes out.

The softly, vulnerable woman he’d held in his arms, the sweetly fragrant woman he’d licked, tasted, and savored. He’d felt the delicacy of her satin skin, knew the vulnerability and softness of her slender body.

To the rest of the world, Honor might be a tough, hard-nosed, no-nonsense woman with a gun. To Seth, she was simply his heart.

Now, the baddies of the story – we have a man who’s the leader or “father” of a commune type community named Tranquility. I guess the best way to describe him would be sleazy. Over the years, he’s created his perfect world, with followers who do what he says, when he says and ask no questions. As far as an enemy goes, he and his daughter fit the bill. I did find myself pulling out of the story a bit when the scenes moved back to Tranquility for a few reasons the biggest being, Alden and his daughter having an incredibly inappropriate relationship. But his daughter has been brainwashed along with the others for her entire life and has a vicious streak that’s simply evil. Their relationship was unsettling and the treatment of the “new recruits”, women brought into their development against their will, are slowly abused and trained to forget their life prior to Tranquility. We get to see this world through the eyes of one of the new girls captured and brought here, Anna. While I loved getting some of the details from her, I thought it was a little odd that we didn’t get this information from Seth’s niece Kelli, who was also being held here.

Overall, I enjoyed Seth and Honor and watching them reconnect and actually talk about things on their mind, only brought them closer together and made me like them all the more. I love seeing LCR and all the agents in action. The other agents always have nice supporting roles and it allows us to be introduced to the characters with stories still to come. It was nice to reconnect with the LCR team and I’m looking forward to the next book, Sweet Revenge.

Review-
Sweet Justice by Christy Reece is a great addition to the Last Chance Rescue series. This book focuses on Honor and Seth who have a history together. They were a couple when Seth breaks Honor’s heart and leaves her in order to complete his undercover assignment, which Honor knew nothing about. The bulk of this story takes place five years later when that meet again to work an assignment for Last Chance Rescue. Seth has hired Last Chance Rescue to find his missing niece. The sparks once again fly between Seth and Honor and Christy Reece weaves a story that is action packed, gripping and enthralling. The premise is fascinating and very well written. You feel for the characters and find yourself on the edge of your seat as the story progresses and the villain’s plot takes center stage. The romance is top notch as Seth and Honor find themselves coming together again as they risk their lives to find not only Seth’s niece but the other kidnapped victims. This book has everything you can ask for in a romantic suspense and it all comes together in an excellent conclusion.

Sweet Justice is highly recommended for fans of Romantic Suspense.

The seventh book in the series Last Chance Rescue by Christy Reece. A gripping and exciting romantic suspense that I would highly recommend to anyone who loves a good balance of romance and suspense. Our hero, Seth Cavanaugh, and heroine, Honor Stone, have a past together but Seth broke it off when he realized the danger he was bringing to Honor. Seth went undercover to bring down a really bad dude but couldn't reveal the truth to his family or the woman that he had already fallen in love with. Okay, fast forward about 5 years, Seth is no longer undercover and has relocated himself away from his family to Florida when his brother calls. Seth's niece is missing and the family is hoping that Seth will be able to find her since the police haven't. Seth contacts LCR and the investigation begins.

Sweet Justice

Series note: While the heroine is introduced in an earlier book, neither the hero nor the plot is related to previous installments. All necessary backstory is provided herein and as such, the book can be read as a standalone.

Similar to the previous book, the first half is intense and compelling as the second chances romance and the cult plot are established. Unfortunately, the second half takes a turn for the worse as the internal angst between the H/h becomes repetitive and the infiltration and rescue require tremendous leaps of logic and a healthy suspension of disbelief.

Seth and Honor are appealing both as individuals and as a couple. While it is impossible not to feel for them when circumstances tear them apart, it is evident that their separation could have been avoided if Seth had trusted Honor more. Reece handles their reconciliation well and kudos to her for not having Honor forgive and forget too easily. Nevertheless, much of the angst in the second half is redundant.

The cult leader is reminiscent of Reece's other villains with his rabid misogyny and sadistic nature. This is only compounded by . The inclusion of the perspective of one of his victims adds another layer of tension and suspense to the storyline.

In sum, Reece's LCR series has a great deal of potential, but the endings need tightening up.

This was by far my favorite installment of the LCR series. It had a slightly different, but all too real type of evil-doer as the main antagonist. Terrifying to think that people like this really have existed in the past, and probably still do exist! I love Honor and Seth as a couple.

My Rating : 4.5 out of 5 stars

Sweet Justice was kindly provided to me by Netgalley for Random House Publishing Group / Ballantine Books.

As a huge fan of Christy Reece’s Last Chance Rescue series, I was very excited to read an advanced copy of her new book, Sweet Justice.

The story begins with Seth Cavanaugh working deep undercover to catch a known crime lord, Hector Clemmons; part of his ruse included going from a respected cop to a dirty ex-cop, running a restaurant and dealings/associations with criminals all to be a part of Clemmons inner circle. What he didn’t expect during this time was to meet and fall in love with FBI Agent Honor Scout.

When Seth agreed to go undercover he couldn't afford to have any close associations - Honor's career would have been tarnished and Clemmons could have used her or his family as a way to manipulate him so he breaks up with her in an unforgivable way and pushes his family away. Honor is left heartbroken and bitter but goes on with her life without him.

Seth and Honor are reunited 5 years later when Seth’s young niece Kelli goes missing from her college campus; Honor is no longer in the FBI and is employed as an operative by Last Chance Rescue and agrees to lead this case working alongside Seth.

When they notice a number of similarities between Kelli’s disappearance and other missing girls, their investigation leads them to all sorts of horrors.
The villain in Sweet Justice is cruel, dominant and truly evil, the community he has built focuses solely on the males and treats the women with no respect, believing their sole purpose is to serve the men in whatever capacity required – they are brainwashed and tortured to believe this.

I enjoyed Honor, the heroine. She was strong and determined but also had a caring, loyal and compassionate nature. Her love towards Seth was evident even after such a long time apart and his feelings were obviously reciprocated although he felt he had nothing left to offer her.

I absolutely loved gorgeous, sexy Seth, he is far from perfect but the sacrifices he made in his relationships with not only his family but also with Honor would have been devastating. His dedication and commitment to catching Clemmons cost him a lot in his personal life which I feel changed him as a person.

Sweet Justice has fast-paced action scenes with vivid details, the descriptions we are given takes you right into the scene and conveys the dangers and emotions perfectly.

Ms Reece’s writing is engaging and descriptive, the pacing and plot is solid. I enjoyed the suspense, mystery, danger and of course the romance, the old lover’s reunited trope is one of my favorites and you could truly see Honor and Seth were meant to be. As with the previous books in this series, the suspense and romance are perfectly balanced.

Sweet Justice is part of a series, but can certainly be read as a stand-alone novel, although I can’t recommend the other books highly enough as well. Each set of books read as a trilogy.

Books in Order:

1. Rescue Me - 2009
2. Return to Me - 2009
3. Run to Me - 2009
4. No Chance - 2010
5. Second Chance - 2010
6. Last Chance - 2010
7. Sweet Justice – 2011
8. Sweet Revenge – 2011
9. Sweet Reward – 2011

Full review to come Tuesday, RELEASE DAY for this wonderful book!!!

My Review:
It's no secret to anyone that's talked books with me for any length of time that one of my favorite genre's is romantic suspense. Within that genre, there are several really amazing authors, but I don't think that there is anyone that consistently delivers emotion, suspense, and fantastic reading than Christy Reece. This book was no disappointment. It was amazing!

Honor is an FBI agent who has made an appearance in several Last Chance Rescue (LCR) novels. Five years ago, she was a rookie FBI agent when she met Seth. At the time, Seth was a restaurant owner who had quit his career as a police officer and was maintaining several questionable acquaintances within his restaurant business. This book opens with him being charged and arrested for murder.

What's never up for debate, as a reader, is how much Seth loves Honor. Quickly within the story, he breaks up with Honor, but he is doing that to protect her, because he is actually deep undercover in a case that is going to take years to resolve. His mistake was ever allowing himself to get involved with Honor, when he knew that he would never be able to pursue a true relationship.

Now it's 5 years later. Seth's case is finally complete (it took much longer than anyone ever expected) and now he is at loose ends after alienating everyone in his life throughout his undercover existence. But his 20 yo niece has disappeared and his family comes to him for help which leads him to LCR where Honor is now an operative, unbeknownst to him. As the lead operative on this case, Honor soon finds herself working very closely with Seth.

Honor is surprised, but not shocked, to find out that Seth was actually undercover all those years. She is even really empathetic to all that he gave up for that mission. What she can't forgive is that Seth knew what was happening in his life, but he allowed Honor to fall for him anyway...KNOWING that ultimately, they could not have a relationship and that he would break her heart. She can't forgive or forget that.

This is truly a heartbreaking story in that there is no right or wrong. Maybe Seth should never have given into his attraction to Honor, but then this love story would NEVER have happened. What is that saying, "It's better to have loved and to have lost, then to have never loved at all." He was in a no-win, ultimate sacrifice situation. He couldn't and didn't resist the allure of simply getting to know Honor although he knew that it could never end well. They both suffered immensely for that.

It is such a good book, and I will be honest...I bawled hard enough through sections of the story that it gave me a headache for the rest of the day. But there is something about a book that moves you to that extreme...So emotional and so moving.

The other thing that Christy does amazingly is create truly evil bad guys and I can't imagine that she will ever top this "bad guy"...OMG! Truly evil and horrific, especially considering how long he has gotten away with this behavior.

Another fantastic book from Christy Reece. Bravo, Christy!!!

This is my first read from author Christy Reece and all I can say is; Wow, it will not be my last!

Five years ago Seth Cavanaugh gave up the only woman he has ever loved to protect her from the dangers in his life. When his niece goes missing though, him and ex-F.B.I. agent Honor Stone are thrown together again when he turns to Last Chance Rescue for help locating her.
Finding Seth’s niece and the other missing young women across the country is a priority, but can this also be a second chance at love for Seth and Honor? When Honor finds out that Seth was on a deadly undercover mission and left her to protect her, she might understand it but forgiving it is another matter.

Sweet Justice was a thrilling ride into the lives of men and women of both honor and strength who rescue those around the world who seemly have no chance. The 7th book in the LCR series is about Seth and Honor, two people who are determined to let the past rest but are unable to more forward from it. Being so far into the series I was surprised at the ease I was able to pick up this story, as I have never read anything by Christy Reece before. The story was absolutely gripping with a perfect balance of both romance and suspense. Both Honor and Seth were captivating MC’s; Honor is a strong, independent and sensitive woman while Seth is a tough, honorable and sexy alpha male determined to protect those he cares for. He has sacrificed his life, family and love for justice and doesn’t think that anyone could love the man he has had to become. But Honor shows him that he is not only a man worthy of love but so much more then what he was. The romance and reconnection between these two was heart pounding and sizzling, wrought with not only sexual tension but emotional tension as well.

Christy Reece delivers an intriguing plot with chilling villains that gave me goose bumps. This pair has cultivated an intricate, and sickening, plot to rule a cult-like community and end up being probably the vilest villains I have ever read about. The plot was well paced and the suspense intense.

All together Sweet Justice was an incredibly stirring novel and I’m curious about the rest of the Last Chance Rescue gang now!

I have been a fan of the LCR (Last Chance Rescue) series since it first arrived on the book shelves. All of Christy's books are filled with hope, love and loss and Sweet Justice was no different. I loved getting to know Seth and Honor and also getting to revisit some of our past friends from LCR as well as becoming better acquainted with some of the newer members. Christy promised a sick and twisted villain and she totally delivered. I don't know if I was more disgusted by him or his slimy daughter and then there was his son...sheesh, it was a family of madness. This was a book I had a hard time putting down!!!

The heat between the couple was right on, the suspense was edge of your seat and the ending, was happy. What more can you ask for from one of your favorite authors? Oh yeah, don't end the series?? Yes you heard me right, these are the final 3 LCR books...that is enough to make one cry. I am looking forward to Dylan & Jamie's story which hits book stores on October 4, 2011.

Good romantic suspense, though I'm starting to wonder if any of Christy Reece's villains are all sexual monsters. Lemme check...book seven in the series? And they've all been about kidnapped and sexually assaulted or molested young girls... Not that that makes them bad in any way, but I take notice of it because some of the 'bad guy' scenes are stomach turning. Only the very graphic is left to the imagination. Something Ms. Reece is known for. So in this book, even though there was a sweet reunited love story, it was hard for me to get past the nausea of the previous horrific torture and incestuous antics of the evil one. (Yes, incest...shudder.)

I guess in the end, I was more worried about killing the bad guy than I was about Seth and Honor. Though I loved how Seth was such a fanatic about Honor's freckles, and how hard he worked to be a good guy. He was a very honorable hero, more so than most heroes I've read.

I have loved all the LCR books, but this one may just be my new favorite! This book is gritty and emotional, but also is exquisitely blended with the suspense. The villain is truly twisted and I found myself rooting for him to have a painful death! The love story between Seth and Honor is so sweet, yet tragic, and I found myself balling my eyes out. Basically, this book pushes you through the gamut of emotions. I couldn’t wait to find out how it all ends, but also wanted it to never end!!!!!!

I can finally sit down and post a review on the 7th LCR installment, Sweet Justice.

I honestly don’t know what to say anymore regarding Christy Reece’s LCR series except for the fact that I have loved every single book. Not only do I love her books, I think she’s just fantastic and one of the few authors on Twitter who replies to my tweets whenever I have something to say. She takes the time to interact with her readers and for that I am very thankful. I will say though that this was one of my favourites.(I think I keep saying this with every book lol) Before I start any series or stand alone book, I trudge through reviews and get others’ perceptions and views. Most times though, they leave me fuming and the reason for this is of course that I don’t agree with a lot of the reviews, once I have actually read the book myself, especially the ones that get so technical, they make me wonder if I am actually reading them in English. Pfft. I do know though that we are all of different opinions and although a lot of readers complain about the villains, do remember that you are reading romantic suspense and should you not be able to face the harsh realities (although this is fiction) of real life – then don’t read romantic suspense. It’s in-your-face descriptive and although it makes me shiver, it provides me with clear mind scenarios – exactly how a villain should affect you. It can't be glossed over and the story wouldn't be the same if we were just told oh, he kidnaps girls and marries them off to men at the compound. Yes it’s fiction, but we all know that these horrific things do happen in real life and if nothing else the author is simply highlighting them and hopefully making you, the reader, more aware of what filth and insanity is out there. Enough ‘ranting’ if that’s how it comes across and on with the review.

Loved Sweet Justice. As I mentioned above, it’s the 7th in the LCR series and still going strong! Right from the beginning Seth Cavanaugh is arrested for the murder of one of Hector Clemmons’ thugs although he didn’t actually do it. He needs to be trusted by Clemmons in order to work with him and then bring him down, hence putting up this front so as to be believed. He’s been dating Honor Stone, an FBI agent, for the past 3 months but decides that their relationship needs to end. Not only does he break her heart but does likewise where his family is concerned. He has no choice but to break all ties because if he doesn’t, then both Honor and his family could be in danger. However, he knew what he was getting into, as prior to starting a relationship with Honor (one he didn’t want but love happens when you aren’t really looking for it) the wheels on this particular undercover operation, had started rolling.

Some 5 years down the line and no longer with the police force, he receives news from his brother that his niece has gone missing. Although Seth still has contacts, they aren’t the sort of contacts that can help him find Kelli. His best option is to hire LCR and insists that he be allowed to work on the case with them. At a meeting called by Noah McCall (the head of LCR), Seth is somewhat surprised and shaken when Honor enters. She is no longer an FBI agent but an LCR operative. Placed into teams, Seth will be working alongside Honor, who has been put in charge of this particular rescue mission, to find Kelli. After much intel/info collecting, it’s decided that not only Kelli, but a number of girls prior to her have been taken and by the same man.

I must say though that this sick/evil/disgusting man is probably one of the worst I have read about. Alden Pike has created/built a place called Tranquillity. It’s along the lines of a commune/cult order and the people within all brainwashed. This is the future or so his perverted mind leads him to believe. It’s so backward minded that it actually gave me goosebumps every time a scene was played out at Tranquillity. Not only do they kidnap young woman so that the men can procreate with, Pike is actually sleeping with his own daughter who is so brainwashed, she has no idea which way is up and I don’t think she will ever have a clue as she’s grown up with ‘evil’ and so the same she became. He is so despicable and mind you, so is she, that when she asks her father permission to kill her own brother, he grants it. He killed his wife as it was time - she didn’t understand the dynamic in his and Tabitha’s relationship. Horrific. The training these young girls are put through to prepare them for the new life that awaits them - which is to serve their men - is so sadistic, I am surprised I didn’t have nightmares about it. For any further insight into this 'Kingdom', you will have to read it yourself.

Despite the horrors, there is also love, eventual understanding and forgiveness within Seth’s family and of course from Honor for what happened in the past and finally the rescue of not only Kelli but the other girls who were kidnapped and forced to lead this life which I constitute as slavery. The taking down of Alden Pike and his world? Awesome. He is so delusional he can’t actually believe that all he has ‘worked’ for is on the brink of ruin. It’s just not possible. He is untouchable. I have no words for this waste of air space. If I were a character in the book, I would have loved to take him down myself – it’s how much I despised him and how much he repelled me! A character that’s very well written Ms. Reece, so much so that he scared me!

Of course Seth and Honor end up together, lovely. I love HEA’s. (I do, can’t help it). Onto the the 8th LCR book hopefully next week which is named Sweet Revenge and then the 9th which was released on 27 December 2011, called Sweet Reward. A double thumbs up from me.

This was the oldest unread fiction book in my Kindle library, and given that it was written in 2011, I feel like it's held up pretty well. It definitely leaves me wanting to finish off the series (which is probably a good thing, given that I still have Book 8, plus a bunch of the next series as well, in Mt TBR)

It was pretty standard far for the LCR series: all the competence pr0n I could wish for, great teamwork, and the added bonus of feeling like the romantic suspense remix of the 'Minimal Loss' Criminal Minds episode towards the end (one of my favourites for Prentiss's sheer competence under pressure, plus Luke Perry showing that yes, he can actually act)

Not much else I can say about it, other than that I'm now looking forward to Book 8

My First Chance with Last Chance
He knew exactly what he was getting into when he chose to go undercover to bring down a crime lord the world desperately needed to be behind bars. Seth Cavanaugh had no illusions about what it would take to get the man. Years of his life, for one. But he felt that the sacrifices would be worth it if he could put an end to the man's reign of terror. He gave up his family, hoping they would understand when the truth came out. And it was just bad luck and his own bad timing that he was already undercover when he met the love of his life, fiery FBI agent Honor Stone.

He couldn't help himself. Couldn't not be with her, make her his own for as long as he could. She was everything to him. But when the undercover operation heated up five years ago, he walked away from her - forever.

Honor survived losing the only man she would ever love - but it was a near thing. She'd clung to her job with the FBI, proving herself in the field again and again, and was now an agent with the Last Chance Rescue organization. Her boss has been asked to take a new case, four college girls have gone missing across several states, and she's taking point for her first lead assignment. But no matter how ready she is, or how professional, her world drops out from underneath her when she comes face to face with the person requesting LCR involvement.

Seth Cavanaugh's niece is missing. And he's standing in front of her, not only asking Honor's help to find her, but telling Honor that they would be finding her together. Working together.

Five years apart and the pain is just as fresh as the ever-present attraction between them. Honor has no doubt they can work together so long as she locks away her feelings. She is driven to find these girls and bring them home. But a madman's twisted perversions go deeper and extend further than either Honor or Seth could possibly imagine and time is running out. The pair will have no choice but to come to terms with their past on their hunt for a truly horrifying predator...or risk losing even the smallest glimmer of hope for a future.

Well it's obvious that I'm a little late to the Christy Reece romantic suspense party, seeing as this book is the seventh in a long-running series. If Sweet Justice is a fair representation of that series, it's been one hell of a party so far. Strong characters, solid story, sizzling romantic chemistry, a good dollop of mystery, plenty of suspense surrounding horrific crimes - this book really did have everything that makes romantic suspense such a favorite genre of mine.

The only thing that didn't work for me was the beginning. I didn't like the first couple of chapters set five years in the past. It set up the characters' backstory nicely, it explained the sacrifices Seth made while undercover, the pain both he and Honor felt at the termination of their relationship, but it didn't sit well for me for a couple of different reasons. One is strictly a personal preference issue. I'm just not a huge fan of second chance romances, so seeing how Seth ended it with Honor in the past didn't appeal to me.

Beyond the romance issues, I felt the depth of development given to the events of the past was largely superfluous. It didn't add anything to the main plotline - nothing that couldn't have been more concisely presented in a prologue or woven into the narrative real time, anyway. I found it distracting and a bit of a depressing start when I would have preferred to dive into the meat of the case of the kidnapped college girls.

And once the book did dive into the case, and Honor and Seth were working together with LCR to piece together not only Seth's niece's disappearance, but the abduction of the other girls, I was caught up. The Bad Guy was exceptionally slimy, his actions and the effect he has on others really quite horrific. It's a bit grim in the big picture, but I was suitably disturbed and engaged while I was reading and highly motivated to see the story through to the conclusion.

Reece struck a nice balance between the romance and the suspense. I have to admit, while second chance romance isn't my thing, the second chance part of this romance was very well done. The emotional reactions, the internal conflicts, and the dialogue during the relationship evolution and development was all very realistic and believable given their established history. And they had chemistry to spare - lots of sizzling, yummy chemistry. I liked them as individuals, though Seth was a bit of a dark cloud of gloom about his past in places throughout the book (to be fair, he had good reason to be), and I loved them together both as a working team and as a couple.

Even with the first few chapters set in the past, this book was a thoroughly successful romantic suspense for me. I appreciated and was particularly pleased with the overall story consistency and plausibility in the plot (some of which, don't get me wrong, was very, very disturbing). My only regret is that I wasn't aware of Reece's series sooner, but I can happily say this won't be my only experience with Last Chance Rescue. I look forward to more.

Disclosure: An ARC of this book was provided to me by Ballantine Books publisher Random House Publishing Group via NetGalley. This rating, review, and all included thoughts and comments are my own.
