From the moment Billie Rae Rasmussen crashes into him, Tanner Chisholm realizes he is on a collision course with destiny. As Whitehorse's cowboy with a heart of gold, there is no way he could overlook the fear that shadows her eyes. Something has her running scared, but now that she is in his protective arms he intends to keep her safe.
Billie Rae can't run fast enough—or far enough. And if she sticks around this small town, the danger that follows her could put her newfound hero at risk. But Tanner refuses to leave her side, and his love gives Billie Rae the hope and courage she needs. Now she'll fight to take back her life…or die trying.
B.J. Daniels started her life in Houston, Texas, before her family moved to Montana at age five. She grew up in a cabin in the Gallatin Canyon near Big Sky and later on Hebgen Lake near West Yellowstone. Because of her love for Montana, most of her books are set there. Born into a storytelling family, all she'd ever wanted to do was write stories. After a career as an award-winning newspaper journalist, she wrote and sold 37 short stories before she finally wrote her first book, ODD MAN OUT. Since then she has won numerous awards including a career achievement award for romantic suspense. She lives in Montana with her husband, Parker, two Springer Spaniels. When she isn't writing, she quilts, boats and. makes rope/fabric baskets. She always reads, loving to lose herself in a good book.
I don't like giving this author a bad review, but this book was bad. In the opening chapters, there is insta love, as in at first look the Hero has fallen for her. He helps her escape from her abusive husband, takes her to the family ranch, and that night they have sex. The next day the heroine takes off to protect the H's family, and they are not together again until the end of the book. In the last chapter she leaves again, and the HFN does not happen until the epilogue when she returns to the ranch.
Honestly, I am surprised Harlequin okayed this book for publication. Typically they have guidelines that their books are to follow, and this one is way off the mark. There is no build up, no getting to know each other, no time spent learning about each other. We are supposed to just accept they met, had sex, and found the love of their lives within about a 12 - 18 hour period.
The suspense plots were convoluted and scattered, there was no romance, and there certainly was no believable HEA. I don't know what the hell this book was, except maybe a prime example of an established author phoning it in and depending on reader loyalty to carry the book sales.
I love this series! I have read a lot of these out of order. That's ok. Tanner just might be my favorite brother, but I haven't finished all six. There's a mystery that flows through this series, and I think a lot of the negative reviews don't realize this is a series. These are not ment to be stand alones. To me, this is a great feature. I love BJ Daniels writing.
I enjoyed reading this story, till I found out it has a cliff hanger at the end !! That is why I had to give it three stars. I read a lot of books, and hate when authors don't let you know you will need to buy more books to find out what happens to everyone in the story... Not everyone wants to read a number of books just to see how or when you will get the answers So be warned Tanner and Billie Rae's story in one and his father and step mother is other story this book will leave you with questions and no answers !!!
This story was included in a book I bought as a free bonus story. I enjoyed the story of Billie Rae a young girl who got caught up by a Office who tricks her into thinking he loves her, she finds out too late he is abusive. She is able to finally run away after 6 months of pain. She runs into Tanner Chishohm, straight into his arms. She is running from her abusive husband and does see Tanner till she runs into him. Tanner takes in her tears, look of fear and know he must protect. After helping her and finding out what her ex promises if he finds her, Tanner takes her home to his father's ranch where is step-mother knows how she feels as she was also abused. There is a lot going on in this story, Tanner and Billie Rae's story, Tanner's father Hoyt and step mother Emma's. His father has had three wives either die, or go missing. There is a insurance investigator, Aggie Well's who is sure Hoyt murdered all of them. And now she is missing. Strange things happen at the Ranch.
As this is book 2 in this series, the background story is continued from the first book. Emma is neck deep in the mystery of Holt and his 3 previous wives. And she no closer to figuring things out.
Meanwhile, this is Tanner's and Billie Rae's story.
It's a love at first sight romance as Tanner takes one look at Billie Rae and knows she's it for him.
But Billie Rae is on the run from an abusive husband. And she doesn't want to get Tanner mixed up in her mess.
Okay, I did find the story interesting but I didn't like how they jumped into bed a moment after meeting. A little tacky.
I also didn't like how I got the feel that the only way this girl is going to heal is with a man, even if he is the right man. That's an older mentality! So then you can tell this book was written ages ago.
Didn't stop me from continuing to read to find more out about the backstory tho!!!
Another in the Chisholm Cattle Company series in which Billie Rae Rasmussen runs smack into Tanner Chisholm when she's running away from her abusive husband, a cop.
Tanner decides he's in love--even though he isn't sure Billie Rae feels the same. After all, she's married, which means she should be hands off in the romance department. Then there's the problem of who is trying to pin the deaths of three previous wives on Tanner's adopted father.
When his new wife, Emma, decides she can't take it anymore, she disappears right about the time Tanner has to follow meager clues to try to keep Billie Rae safe from her rampaging husband. Will he get there in time? After all, he's trapped in the trunk of the cop's big car.
Enjoyed this, it was a real page turner. Lots of mysterious happenings of Tanner's Fathers first 3 wives under investigation an then Tanner rescuing an abused woman who is running away from her husband. Usual sparks of attraction between Tanner and Billie Rae, a night of passion and then Billie Rae wants to move on so nothing else happens to Tanner's family. Oh and Billie Rae's husband is a cop, Someone who is to uphold the law but who has control issues. A story that is good to the last page!
Thanks, B.J., for another great novel! What a tough young lady you created in Billie....I am 82, and still have not conquered my fear of suspension bridges....but one of my daughter's has got me up a few mountains recently, and quelled most of my fear of heights! I is there a seqell so we know what happens on the Chisolm Ranch?
IMO it was a good book. I read some of the bad reviews and I don’t agree with them. It was definitely more dramatic than the first. The storyline and characters are really good. The down side: I don’t like cliffhangers and apparently the mystery of Hoyt’s dead wives isn’t going to be solved until the last book.
This book is filled with coincidences and there seem to be an awful lot of big black cars racing down back roads. This is another story about Whitehorse, MT and while I usually like the characters, I find the plots to be weak.
To escape from an abusive marriage, Billie Rae finds the courage she needs to escape and take her life back. A little suspense, some twists and turns, finding home and true love, and a HEA. One issue is resolved but we’re still left with a cliffhanger.
This one has someone who enjoys doling out abuse and because he carries a badge seems to feel no one can do any harm to him and his evil ways but he has met his match you won't be disappointed in how this story keeps you guessing at every page turned worth the read
Loved this book. The suspense started on Page 1 and continues throughout the whole book. Billie Rae and Tanner make a fantastic pair and really fight to help each other. Loved this book.
So exciting. The action start from the very start. I really didn't like Duane. Billie Rae was running for her life. At one point, she took Tanner's advice to draw a line & stand her ground.
Another great short read about one of the Chisholm brother's. Tanner bumps into Billie Rae at a rodeo and little does he know that she's running from an abusive husband who will not stop until he catches her. A real edge of your seat, page turner!
When Billie Rae Rasmussen crashed into Tanner Chisholm, she realizes he is on a collision course with destiny. As Whitehorse's cowboy with a heart of solid gold, there is no way he could ever overlook the fear reflected in her eyes. She's running scared, but now that she is in his arms he intends to move heaven and hell to keep her safe. Her pursuer has met his match and then some, he just doesn't know it yet.
Billie Rae can't run fast or far enough. And if she stays in this small town, the danger that follows her could put her new found friend at risk. But Tanner refuses to leave her and risk losing her to a killer. His love gives Billie Rae the hope and courage she needs to fight back.
Great story with another Chisholm brother coming to the rescue.
I love the mystery that's going on on top of the main plot in the series. I want to know what happens to Hoyt and Emma. They seem like a nice couple and the suspense on Aggie Wells is something I want to see through the end.
Story of tanner saving a woman from her abusive husband that is looking for her to kill her for leaving him.The story of hoyts 3 ex wives also continues in this book 2nd in the series.
I loved this book. It's number 2 in the series and it was as good as the first book. I'm in love with the Chisholm family and I can't wait yo read the next!!
Excitement around the Chisholms. More mystery around Hoyt while Tanner has his own struggles saving his love. A great addition. I can't wait for the next installment.
