Little Critter goes shopping with his mother and little sisters for groceries and other things.
Little Critter is off to the grocery store with his mom and siblings in this classic, funny, and heartwarming book. Whether he wants to push the cart, pick the best apples, or get his sister out of the candy aisle, both parents and children alike will relate to this beloved story. A perfect way to teach kids about being on their best behavior!
Mercer Mayer'sLittle Critter stories, which address all the major issues of growing up, are perennial favorites to generations of readers of readers of all ages.
Mercer Mayer is an American children's author and illustrator. He has published over 300 books, using a wide range of illustrative styles. Mayer is best known for his Little Critter and Little Monster series of books.
This book is about the shopping experience Little Critter has with his mom and his litter sister. The first stop was the grocery store and the Litter Critter explains everything that happened and how his little sister made their mother upset many times. His little sister asked for candy, a red pail, she got lost and when she tried to help she just made a mess. Their mother constantly kept saying no but she did allow them to get a book each, which his little sister than asked for two and then again her mom said no. As they were making their way to the next stop his little sister wanted cake since they were passing a bakery and a kitty when they passed a pet store but their mom once again said no. But when they went to the dress store their mother got her a dress which made she very excited. To end their long shopping day their mom bought them ice cream and everyone was happy.
I remember reading all the Little Critter books by Mercer Mayer when I was young, they are easy to read and I think kids can relate a lot to them. Going shopping with our mothers' is something we all do and when you have a younger sibling you know how they can be or how you can be when you want something from the store but your mom will say no. All the pictures in this book really illustrate what the words are saying but there is also cute little extra things that make it more enjoyable.
Taking three children to the grocery store what fun. The oldest Critter understood that you can not eat the items in the store but his little sister ate and cried for candy. Mom took the crying baby while brother and sister waited. This was a good mom she bought them a book. Mayer's books all relational for parents having to say no the whole trip.
I have read this book, and I must say, I like it a lot.
I like how Little Critter does his best to be a good role model; while he picked out a few good apples for Mom, his little sister picked a red plum, but eats it, and Little Critter says that his mom was mad because of that.
Little Critter’s little sister also wants candy, but Mom says no; when she repeats her candy request later, after Mom finds both her and Little Critter back at the candy (as Little Critter had been trying to get her to come with him back to the place where they’d meet up with Mom after Mom took their baby sibling to the restroom and his little sister refused), Mom tells her “no candy today”; when she asks her if she would like to go to timeout instead, Little Critter’s little sister refuses.
When they pass by the books, Mom says they can pick out one book, and refuses Little Sister’s suggesting they get two books.
To make a long story short, Mom buys them ice cream after they get Little Sister a new dress (since Mom tells her that’s what she needs, despite her saying she wants cake, a new kitty, a red pail, the yellow duck and a doll).
This book is very neat, as well as a good reminder for all of us who have had those grocery shopping trips with our parents. I highly recommend it, and I give it five stars (although ten stars would be even better). :)
This book is part of Mercer Mayer's, Little Critter Series. This story is about the little critter and his younger sisters shopping with their mother. The little sister is always asking the mom to buy her something outrageous, but mom always says no. The sister throws many fits and demands to get candy, ice cream, a new kitty, etc. After the kids and mother shop for the litter sister's new dress, they all go out to get ice cream, just like the little sister wanted. This story (and Little Critter Series) could be very beneficial to younger kids because of the hidden messages in them. These books are easy for kids to relate to because of the many stories where there's younger siblings, older siblings, fun days with friends, and visiting grandparents, etc. Kids relate to stories in which the little critter seems their age.
Animal based stories are not always my faviorite, but some students may find them intresting and may be able to relate to animal stories better than stories with human characters. I believe it is improtant to have a variey in the classroom, and this book would be added to my shelf. This book sends a positive message and a child might learn a lesson from it, and I believe this is an important aspect of a book.
A day spent shopping with mom means pushing the cart, helping mom with the little siblings and being patient. At the end of the trip mom rewards the kids with an ice cream cone.
I remember loving Mayer Mercer books when I was little so this was a fun book to read to remember my childhood.
This book could be used in speech and language therapy if you are working on reading short sentences. Or this book could be used to target sequencing of events.
Mercer Mayer books just send me through nostalgia. My grandmother used to read all the little critter books to all of her grandchildren, and this one was one of my favorites! I love this story; I think it teaches manners and it shows children how "acting up" can be hard for a parent to deal with. Very great illustrations and I believe most children (and adults) will enjoy it!
This book has a cover that I have still not forgotten in fifteen years, the artwork stands out and fits the book perfectly. This book is a huge childhood memory for me, and is one of the first books I was able to read on my own. The sense of humor in the book is something I have always picked up on, but means even more to me now and makes me love this book even more.
PB 18: I love the illustrations of the Mercer Mayer books. I also like the overall arrangement of the text and the pictures. This book was relate able to children with siblings, especially younger ones who want to ask for everything.
I was thinking about some of my favorite childrens books. This is perfect, just like shopping trips with my children. I enjoy reading this to my children.
Little critter books are fun ones to have in a class room library. Not so much a read aloud book. But a fun one for kids to look at the pictures and read themselves.
Haha...this reminded me of what it's like taking all of my kids to the store! My girls love this book--especially because the characters somewhat resemble themselves. :)
This was just a classic Little Critter book where not much happens but the pictures are funny and the story relatable and my almost 4 year old really enjoyed it and requests it often. I haven’t seen this one before but it definitely feels of the old guard rather than the newer era, which is a good thing!
My children absolutely adore this book. Reading literature is so important to the development of a child's mind, and I cannot think of thing I would rather do then sit down to read to them in the evenings. Imagination and growth are so vital in those so young.
Critter and his sisters go shopping with their mom. Critter has to push both of his sisters around in the cart. His yougest sister wants to get some candy. They get to pick out a book. They all got ice cream at the end
Just Shopping with Mom by Mercer Mayer – I have a first edition copy of this one! Lol AKA: My mama bought this one for me because she likes Mercer Mayer too! Happy Reading!
