Beverly Marie Inman was born on 23 December 1946 in Tuscumbia, Alabama, USA. Daughter of Doris Marie and Walter D. Inman Jr. A born romantic, she fell in love with The Beauty and the Beast epic at an early age, when her grandfather bought her an illustrated copy of the famous fairy tale. Even before she learned to read and write, her vivid imagination created magical words and fabulous characters inside her mind. Movies fascinated her, and by the time she was seven she was rewriting the movies she saw on television and at the local theater to give them all happy endings. By the age of nine she'd penned her first novel. She wrote short stories, TV scripts, poetry, and novels throughout high school and into college.

After her marriage to Billy Ray Beaver, the "love of her life", and the births of her two children, Beverly continued to be a voracious reader and a devoted moviegoer, but she put her writing aspirations on hold until her children were teenagers. At every age of their lives, from infancy to adulthood, the children had been a true joy to her. She devoted herself to her husband and children and considered herself one of the many selfless "supermoms" who put their family's needs first. She believed she had had it all, just not all at the same time.

In her mid-30s, Beverly returned to her former passion — writing — as a hobby, but before 40, she decided that she wanted to make writing a full-time career. And when she rediscovered an old dream — of becoming a published writer — no one was more supportive of her aspirations than her family. Her children were her greatest cheerleaders and her husband was her biggest supporter. After writing over 40 books and receiving numerous awards and nominations, as well as having books on the USA Today list and consistently on the Waldenbooks bestseller list, her career was indeed a dream come true. Having a fantastic family and fabulous friends, as well as making a living doing the one thing she had loved doing since childhood, she considered herself truly blessed. Beverly died suddenly of heart failure on 21 April 2011.

The last book in Beverly Barton's popular "Protectors" series...which is rather sad. I haven't read all the books, yet, but I've enjoyed the ones that I have read, especially the longer ones. This one included.

Anyway, Dying For Youfeatures not only the oft-requested couple Lucie and Sawyer, but also wraps up storylines for Cara and Bain, and Daisy and Geoff. Though you might be able to read this book as a stand-alone and not have many problems, it reads almost as a sequel to the last "Protectors" book A Time To Die - it's got many of the same characters and situations - and it also has obvious connections to other past books in the series.

The book starts off with Lucie finally getting fed up with Sawyer's treatment of her at Dundee's because of their past together. So she leaves and takes a job as Cara Bedell's personal bodyguard. On a trip out of town, Lucie is kidnapped because her abductors believe she is Cara. When he finds out, Sawyer comes riding to the rescue. It's soon learned that it may not be just a kidnap for ransom, but that someone wants Cara dead. And while all this is going on, Cara is trying to convince Bain they can make a relationship work despite her being filthy rich, and Daisy decides to go after her man, Geoff. Lucie and Sawyer must also dredge up the past and finally put their issues behind them...all the while trying to find out who wants Cara dead.

I liked Dying For You a lot, but I don't think I could say I 5-star loved it. It wasn't quite there for me, but it was still a solid 4-stars, maybe 4.5. I'd probably go with 4.5 if one thing at the end hadn't really annoyed me.

This is a very busy book, though. There are three romantic couples...and though Lucie and Sawyer are supposed to be the main one, Cara and Bain get a lot of face-time as well. Which I didn't mind too much since I grew to really like them in the last book. Daisy and Geoff have their scenes as well, but they're more in the background. I enjoyed all the relationships in the book, though. The characters were all great, lots of torturous emotional angst...and the requisite HEA's. I will say that maybe Lucie and Sawyer could have gotten a little more focus. After the build up they had, readers really wanted their story, and for them to have to share space with not one, but two other couples is just a smidge disappointing. But I don't think it ruined the story or anything. Their relationship just wasn't as full-bodied as it perhaps could have been.

As for the plot of the book...I had no problems with it, though it was a bit predictable. I had a good idea who the bad guy(s) were going to be. Still, it was an interesting story and because of it's close ties to story situation in the last book, everything is familiar and comfortable. I thought the ending (the plot wrap-up) could have been more solid. The bad guy is arrested, then there's like two more chapters to tie up the relationships, but no mention of what happened with the case. So you're left wondering what happened there (convictions, jail, etc). And I was ENDLESSLY annoyed by the fact that Barton neglected to resolve the fate of a certain character...who was seriously injured near the end. The last word was that the person was in serious condition and that if they survived the next 48 hours they should survive...and then there's nothing else. It's never mentioned what happened to the character. And it annoyed the hell out of me. I really hate it when authors seem to forget to wrap-up an issue.

That was my only major annoyance. Otherwise, I enjoyed Dying For You. Good romance, great characters, interesting storyline...an all around solid read. But I'm kinda sad that this is the last "Protectors" book. At least there will be more of Barton's Griffin Powell-related books.

I didn’t like the reason the couple was apart, and the suspense story could have been better.

STORY BRIEF:
Lucie and Sawyer work for a private security firm. Lucie has loved Sawyer for years. Sawyer also has feelings for Lucie, but he fights those feelings and has avoided her for nine years, due to a misunderstanding. Lucie quits her job and becomes a bodyguard for Cara, a billionaire traveling to S. America for business. While there, kidnappers think Lucie is Cara and kidnap her for ransom. Sawyer and his people go there to rescue Lucie. Sawyer arranges for Cara to be hidden away for awhile so no one knows the wrong person was kidnapped. Cara has been in love with Bain, a police detective. He loves her as well, but he won’t have a relationship with her because he feels he can’t fit into her rich lifestyle.

REVIEWER’S OPINION:
The two love stories, Lucie/Sawyer and Cara/Bain are based on the guys refusing to act on their feelings and denying their desires for the women. The Sawyer conflict was worse. It was based on someone lying to Sawyer nine years ago. All he needed was a two minute conversation with Lucie to know the truth, but he refused to listen to her for nine years. Finally, at the end of the book, he listens to her, and they are together. I don’t enjoy stories where the couple is apart due to vague communication and inaccurate assumptions, which was what this was. At times, there was too much pondering by Sawyer, thinking he wants her, but he must not let himself have her. Regarding Bain and Cara, Bain refused to have a relationship with Cara because she was rich. Later he changed his mind and agreed to marry her, but I didn’t understand why he changed his mind, unless it was something about his feelings changing with the passage of time. I would have preferred an interesting reason.

CAUTION SPOILERS:
The second major storyline was about the kidnapping, who hired the kidnappers and why. That story was ok, but it could have been better. Some parts were told rather than shown which bothered me. Salazar was a local leader in Ameca. He told Sawyer that he had people searching for clues as to who abducted Lucie and where she was being held. After a day or so, Salazar told Sawyer exactly where she was. Sawyer then planned the rescue. I would have preferred seeing more details about how Salazar got that information instead of being told “here’s where the hostage is being held.” The same thing happened later with finding Josue. We are told that he was found and made to talk. No details were provided which could have been interesting.

DATA:
Story length: 369 pages. Swearing language: strong. Sexual language: moderate. Number of sex scenes: 5. Total number of sex scene pages: 11. Setting: current day Ameca (a small South American country), Atlanta, Georgia, and Tennessee. Copyright: 2008. Genre: romantic suspense.

I enjoyed this book and found it easy to read. Even though it was number 30 in a series, it was fine to read as a stand alone book. I would like to read other books in the series, although the ending of the book was a bit like a fairy tale, i.e. "and they all lived happy ever after".

Talk about well written this is the 2nd book of hers I've read. Its well written and you can feel the characters especially Lucie Evans. You can almost sense she's a red head by the threat she offers and by the description Beverly gives. The book is full of action and mystery from the beginning of the story. You can sense there is something going on between Sawyer and Lucy. What is keeping them apart is part of the mystery. I like the style of writing Beverly uses. She keeps you guessing as to who is behind the problems that arise in the story. Its a bit of a surprise who is behind it all in the end. Its a well written story and worth a read. I will continue to look for more of her work. J

the protector series entah buku ke berapa
ke 30 kalo ga salah ingat

one of my fave book nih....

bercerita ttg lucie evans yg sejak remaja sudah jatuh cinta dengan sawyer mcnamara namun semua impiannya hancur dengan kematian adik sawyer, sahabat lucie yg ternyata jg mencintai lucie sama spt sawyer.

kematian adik sawyer langsung memutuskan segala hubungan lucie & sawyer namun lucie tetap mencintai sawyer.

tugas yg membuat lucie nyaris menjadi korban rape & membuatnya mengalami memar2 dibbrp bagian tubuhnya.
lucie marah besar & akhirnya langsung resign.
sawyer memang sengaja memberikan tugas itu pada lucie tp dia tidak mengira kalo lucie akan mengalami pelecehan sejauh itu.

merasa bersalah sawyer mengontak bendel inc. & merekomendasikan lucie untuk menjd pengawal pribadi cara, the heir of bendel inc.

sawyer berharap dengan lucie berada jauh maka semua akan baik2 saja. namun saat sawyer tau lucie diculik teroris karna dikira cara langsung sawyer datang menyelamatkan.

hmmmmm saling cinta namun tak mampu bersatu karna bayangan hantu dimasa lalu.
sawyer sebenarnya sangat peduli pada lucie namun dia tidak mampu bersatu dengan lucie tanpa merasa bersalah karna membuat adiknya bunuh diri.

lucie sendiri terlalu mencintai sawyer hingga tak mampu memalingkan hatinya pada pria lain.
hhhhhhhhhhhhhhh 9 tahun bukan waktu yg sebentar.
apa sawyer ga lelah ya menentang segala perasaannya pada lucie.
dia tidak ingin lucie dekat2 dengannya tp dia jg tidak mau melihat lucie menderita, lucu sebenarnya, lha sawyer apa ga sadar segala tindakan & penolakannya justru yg membuat lucie paling menderita.

aq suka novel2 beverly barton. BB pinter menciptakan chemistry diantara hero & heroine nya tanpa merusak kisah2 pembunuhan disekitar mereka. juga tidak mengurangi percikan2 pasangan lain yg diceritakan.
ga ada kata2 gombal panjang lebar diantara hero & heroine nya.
semua terangkum dengan baik & dengan alurnya yg baik pula.

two thumbs up for BB......

Sawyer and Lucie's story was anticipated by me for a long time and I have to say it did not disappoint. I was dying to read their story from the beginning when the fireworks were clearly evident between these two in the other Dundee Agency books. Not only do you get their love story but you get three for the price of one. The secondary characters were wonderful as well. The only thing I would have improved upon was more of the book being devoted to Sawyer and Lucie and longer love scenes. As stated there were many characters in this book and several love stories and I felt they somewhat took away from time that should have been Sawyer and Lucie's, even though I loved those characters too. I couldn't get enough of Sawyer and Lucie. With so many stories interwoven into this book not enough time was devoted to them. It was really hard to put this book down after reading the last paragraph. I could have read on and on.

On another note I have to mention how many errors were in this book. Whoever the editor was needed an editor to edit their work. I could not believe the number of errors. I expect one or two in a book, no one is perfect, but this went well beyond that. In one sentence they actually used the word discussion for concussion. I lost count of how many errors there were, there were that many. Still, I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone.

The story is basically good, but I hated that all the females are desperately chasing after the males. The guys kept on rejecting them time after time for foolish and stupid reasons. Many times in the book, I wanted the females to just give up on those idiot guys and find other men, even though I know that it will not be as easy as said. It's just so frustrating! I hated that Sawyer didn't just LISTEN ONCE to Lucie's explanation and save them both nine years of pointless grief. NINE YEARS! Totally wasted bacause of this stupid guy. I really have to hand it to Lucie's perservance, if it was me, I would totally curse him and give him up LONGGGGG AGO. In my opinion, I think that Lucie should get seriously injured earlier in the book and cause Sawyer to sweat and freaked over Lucie for a much longer time. Let him and the other being chased guys SUFFER more!!!!

I outdid myself this time. Not only did I begin reading a series by an author new to me with something other than book #1, but apparently I read the very last installment, #30! The action/adventure portion of the story was entertaining and well written, but there were a few too many star-crossed lovers, albeit with different obstacles in their relationships. Now that I know this was the conclusion to a rather long series, I can understand tying up loose ends. However, it does strain the limits of believability that not one, not two, but three stubborn men come to their senses and realize that their respective women have loved them for years and essentially won't take "no" for an answer. (Was that a spoiler? If so, I apologize!)

I felt this book was trying too hard to cover everything the author wanted to convey at this, the last book in the Dundee Agency series. There were 3 romances, all with men who didn't want to be in love; too much of the same thing. Too many threads were undeveloped or left me thinking "why mention this?". Where the author had a great storyline going, it seemed to be over before the suspense kicked in. There was never a pinacle. Many, many typos in my edition!!! I have read other books in this series (altho I can't remember the names of any, nor the H/H, which maybe should tell me something) but won't go back in fill in the holes by reading her backlist. Sorry, Beverly.

As one of Beverly Barton’s “Protector" series, I would rate Dying for You 4 stars yet as an overall work ; 3 and a half. I did enjoy seeing the conclusion of several on hold relationships at the Dundee Private Security and Investigation Agency, I have been personally and hopefully waiting for another Barton original, like her Cherokee Point series. Any reader who enjoys danger linked with romance would enjoy this book as well as Barton fans everywhere. Well worth going in the cart.

I discovered this book at the library and wondered why I hadn't read it since I do make a point of reading Barton's mystery books. It didn't take long before I realized this was a Romantic-Suspense. It was okay but too much romance and too little suspense for my tastes. I knew what was going to happen within a couple of chapters but of course, had to read the whole thing to see if I was right! Yes, I was.

So many of Beverly Barton's books seem similar. I think I've read other books by her featuring the same characters, but I can't guarantee it. I think the reason I keep reading her is that every now and then she really knocks one out of the park in the suspense department. I get tired of the sappy, romance end of things, but if I skip that stuff, there's often a good story behind it. This one wasn't one of the better ones. Still good, just nothing nail-biting.

I enjoyed this book however I put put off with the soapish drama with the 4 main 6 leads. The I love you and you love me but wait we can never be together because blah blah blah was really off putting. Now on the other hand the action was great and the sad love of the two main leads were wonderful. It was a really good book but not the best I've ever read.

The story was well written for what it was. It was a spy/chick flick. Think Charlies Angels...love, danger, and betrayel. A cliche is the best way to describe it. Damsel in distress, "prince Charming" sent to the rescue. This would be what i consider a good beach read.

I loved the book just because of the love and romantic were in between couples mentioned here, especially Lucie and Sawyer. Other than this, I did not see much suspense here.
