A Gentleman Never Tells is a delightful, witty, and enjoyable read.

Brent is prince charming cleverly disguised as the boy next door. He is loyal to his family, kind to animals, smart, funny, and just one of those really nice guys. He has decided it is time to marry and has come to London to find a bride. One morning he is walking his deceased mother’s prized pet Prissy when he encounters an enchanting young women who mysteriously materializes in the park and kisses him.

Gabrielle has been an obedient daughter for as long as she can remember. However, when she discovers her younger sister in her fiancée's arms, she is shaken to her core and finds herself walking her faithful mastiff in the park when she encounters Brent. A rebellious moment later she finds herself in his arms experiencing the most wondrous kiss of her life.

Gabrielle and Brent’s tryst is discover by her father and her fiancé's father and this eventful encounter changes their lives forever. Gabrielle and Brent struggle with the deepening of their relationship and people that want to tear them apart. The dialogue is witty and humorous and had me often laughing out load.

Both main characters are likeable, charismatic and warm-hearted. Gabrielle’s antics are the epitome of a women torn between what her heart really desires and what she believes is right thing that should be done. She is a bit naive but what girl in that time wouldn’t be? The secondary characters in the book are as wonderfully written and add just the right balance to the plot.

Overall, I would highly recommend this book. I loved the plot, the characters and I really like the cover for the book. A sparkling addition to my historical romance bookshelf!

A GENTLEMAN NEVER TELLS--even when a strange lady kisses him in the park, thereby forcing him into an unwanted betrothal.

But what a lady! Duke's daughter Gabrielle is lovely, smart and concerned about people and animals. Viscount Brentwood could do much worse.

But Gabrielle kissed Brent in order to extricate herself from an unwanted betrothal. She's not about to shackle herself into another. But she never meant to involve an innocent party in her problems. What to do? Why, convince Brent she will make a terrible wife and have him call off the engagement.

Fun abounds as Gabrielle concocts failing scheme after failing scheme to convince Brent what a bad wife she will make, even as they present a solid front against the high sticklers of the Regency ton. And why have all those pet dogs disappeared?

A GENTLEMAN NEVER TELLS is a witty story with likeable main characters whose actions are guided by a concern for others. Gabrielle wants both Brent and herself to have a choice in their futures. Also guiding their actions are Gabrielle's concern for her sister's well-being (although I think she is a little too kind to her flighty sister), and Brent's solicitude for his brothers. And entwined through the story is the puzzle of the lost dogs and their owners' anguish over their loss

Ms. Grey keeps the action fresh, compelling and witty while the suspense about the characters' future and the riddle surrounding the dogs keeps us wondering right until the end.

A book I couldn't put down.

A Gentleman Never Tells is a delightful regency romance novel. I have a great love for regency romance, and I found this novel to be one of the best I’ve read in the genre.

Viscount Brentwood is walking his mother’s small dog in the park one morning when he is met by a beautiful woman walking a very large dog. She is beautiful and suddenly in his arms in a compromising manner. He enjoys the moment only too briefly before he is set upon by Lady Gabrielle’s father, fiancée’s father, and their men.

Now forced to wed, Brent tries to determine why Gabrielle wanted to break her first engagement, and the mystery of where his mother’s dog disappeared to during the moment of passion. Meanwhile, Gabrielle tries to show Brent that she would not make a suitable bride as she is determined to not to be forced into marriage.

I really enjoyed this regency romance novel. The characters were first rate. I loved Brent and Gabrielle and the secondary characters were also very delightful. I enjoyed how the romance developed in the novel, and I really enjoyed the mystery. I’m an animal lover and I enjoyed how the two characters bonded over their dogs and the mystery of what happened to Brent’s mother’s dog.

Well I hate to say it but the start of the 2nd set trilogy was kinda lame.
Rosa’s storyline was stupid. I did like Brutus. Gabby & Brent had good chemistry.
The lost dog storyline added some depth to the narrative.
Ah, well onto the next one..

The words funny and charming, sensual and compelling could describe this story. Amelia Grey has created characters with depth who interact in entertaining ways. A Gentleman Never Tells is a delightful Regency-era romance.

Gabrielle, a once obedient Duke’s daughter, sees something that drags her from her proper ways. She does a shocking thing in a park, starting the novel off with a surprise. The reckless thing she does changes the life of an innocent man, a Viscount.

Don’t feel bad for the Viscount though, great guy that he is, even though trouble follows him around since meeting Gabrielle. After his encounter with her, his heart is never the same.

Witty dialogue and humorous dog adventures give this book a slightly funny tone under the romantic one. Secondary characters add an interesting touch to the story. Some are funny, like the odd Lord Snellingly and his obsession with his dog. Some are truly unlikeable characters who fortunately didn’t have too much space on the pages, like Gabrielle’s completely selfish, self-absorbed sister Rosa. What a wretched person.

The main character though, the Viscount, is so thoroughly likeable that he’s perfect for the warm-hearted Gabrielle. They are great together, despite the things that she does.

Marriage, infidelity, and sisterly relationships come into play, their themes adding meaning and perspective. Wonderful sensual moments are weaved throughout the story and are just perfect.

As likeable as Gabrielle is, at times, she is a bit hypocritical, like when she uses her antics (which are admittedly humorous) to dissuade the Viscount from wanting her and yet she always seems to be looking her best. She thinks he doesn’t want to marry her and is being forced to. However, he is constantly warm toward her and wants to kiss her. Are those the actions of a man who feels trapped?

Despite this, the book is delightful. The ending is charming and unforgettable. Amelia Grey can write a great tale. Regency fans should check this one out.

In general, I love Regency romances. I'm not terribly picky about whether they're 100 percent authentic. I'm really very easy to please, and I've read hundreds of them over the 30 years or so I've been reading them.

But there were things in this book that just made me stop reading and cringe. Like the term "birth father." Seriously? There's no way that term was used back then. And what's up with the constant references to men as "blades"? I might have been able to buy it if it were only men using that term, and using it only in conversation to each other. But by women? And in mixed company? No way.

Those type of things repeatedly interrupted the storyline for me and dulled my guilty pleasure.

Blegh.

If half stars were possible here, I'd rate it 1.5. But there was no way I could round this one up to 2. I tried. Couldn't do it.

Oh, I enjoyed this book very much! It's witty, entertaining and all around cute :D The antics of Lady Gaby trying to get rid of Brent are hilarious. And his reaction is always kind to whatever she does. So all in all it was a fast light read.

PS. Golden Orbs rule! LOL

My Review:

The Plot:

When Viscount Brentwood finds himself in quite the unexpected situation of being caught passionately embracing a beautiful but unchaperoned lady in the park, his choice pick of the marriageable ladies of the ton is forcibly revoked by the lady in question and her powerful duke of a father. Threatened within an inch of his life by the irate duke, Brent accepts his duty as a gentleman and agrees to marry the now unveiled Lady Gabrielle. Funnily enough, Brent isn't too upset with the corner he's been backed into. Obviously he shares a mutual attraction with Lady Gabrielle and her surprising but welcomed actions leave many intriguing questions that he'll no doubt delight in retrieving their answers. What Brent doesn't approve of though is the duke threatening his brothers and their shipping ventures. That he'll put a stop to but everything else, oh everything else is mighty appealing.

Having successfully untangled herself from one unwanted engagement, Gabrielle is exasperated to find herself jumping free from the hot frying pan only to land straight into the fire with yet another unwanted engagement. Always the good girl that followed daddy's orders, Gabrielle agreed to marry the man she was told to marry regardless of the non-existent spark between them. But her puppet-like compliance shredded the moment she caught her fiancé kissing her young impetuous sister with the sincere ardency and desperation of a man dying of thirst. Their love for one another was palpable. Unwilling to doom herself or her sister to a life of misery, Gabrielle takes her fate into her own hands and kisses the handsome and then unknown Lord Brentwood in the park. She never meant however for their kisses to turn so passionate or for the connection between she and her beautiful stranger to solidify so quickly. And now having been caught by her father, Gabrielle is once again being forced to marry when she doesn't want to. Worse, her actions have forced Lord Brentwood into an unwanted marriage as well and that must be remedied.

Brent doesn't quite know what to make of Gabrielle's behavior in the light of their engagement. She seems to be purposefully trying to deter him from his gentleman's duty but acting the fool. Not knowing whether to laugh at her attempts at incompetence or confront her on the reasons, Brent simply decides to roll with her and delight in seeing what scheme she'll attempt next. The point of fact is that Gabrielle is doing her best to seem like the worst sort of wife. If only she knew that her antics have succeed in making her that much more endearing. In fact, Brent can't seem to focus on anything but Gabrielle and the surprises that await him come their next visit. He's not afraid of falling in love, just surprised but after all the interesting twists and turns this courtship has revealed, he shouldn't be surprised at all.

The Heroine:

Gabrielle strives endlessly to please those around her, especially her father. But when faced with the passionate love between her former fiancé and her sister, Gabrielle realizes that all her people pleasing has achieved nothing but the successful drowning of her core self. She's effectively lost all that defines her in the need to be what everyone else expects and it ends now. No matter that the rocky start on the road towards self preservation has only managed to land her in one more predicament, Gabrielle is determined to sabotage Lord Brentwood's opinion of her as a good wifely candidate. However, there's a small problem and that being that her heart seems to race within his presence and when not, he occupies her mind like no one else.

The Hero:

Already in London with the intent to find himself a wife, Brent is a little shocked by fate and the alluring mystery of his new beautiful fiance. Yes, his proposal may not exactly be what he had planned, but he doesn't find any need to shirk his duty. Quite the contrary, he's pleased to be affianced to Lady Gabrielle. She certainly isn't boring and there is the added bonus that their passion for each other flares hot. And while on their way to the aisle, Brent is determined to find out the source of Gabrielle's aversion to their marriage and her sabotage attempts that only leave him panting for more. She's a conundrum that Brent wants nothing more than to solve and who cares if his heart happens to fall in love along the way.

My Final Thoughts:

A GENTLEMAN NEVER TELLS boasts an intelligent and original start that unfortunately fizzles to a disappointing anticlimactic ending. Tempting plot arcs that could have added rich life to an otherwise bland storyline are left strangely unexplored resulting in a likable hero and heroine pairing but no real conflict or tension to keep this reader invested in their journey.

Decidedly sensual rather than steamy, AGNT is a sweet passing of time that's sadly tainted with unrealized potential. This reader feels that attention could have been given to the forbidden love between Gabrielle's sister and former fiancé. There's also the scintillating plot arc whereby Gabrielle may still be forced to marry her sister's lover and is even threatened by him but nothing comes to heady fruition. Instead, these arcs are strangely forgotten and one is left thinking, "but what about this and what about that?".

It had all the ingredients for an intriguing and gripping story and while still a sweet read and not exactly a waste of time, A GENTLEMAN NEVER TELLS is still rather a forgettable pastime. Honestly, I'd be hard pressed to recall the contents a month from now.

For readers that don't enjoy cumbersome plot arcs or a hint of danger but rather want two likable characters and a journey to love that reads like a leisurely walk, A GENTLEMAN NEVER TELLS is the perfect historical romance to wile away your time.

Another good book by Amelia.

Gabrielle needs Judson Brentwood. She does not want to married Staunton. Gabribelle has her reasons but wants to keep it secret.

Brent argees to marry her but she does not want to at first.

They have a growing attraction.

They are looking for his mother's dog and end up finding her with a woman who is sick and her son is taking care of her with his sisters.

He pays for the medicine as long as Godfrey keeps his job.

Brent and Gabrielle have sparks and they finally realize that they love each other.

Gabrielle losses her dog, Brutus but Brent manages to find a puppy from his bloodline.

They find their love and her sister finds hers with Staunton.

A copy of Julia Quinn.

This book is a copy of Julia Quinn’s style but not nearly as well well written. The plot was even less believable . What well bred young lady during Regency times would go walking in a park lat daybreak without a chaperone and then kiss a handsome stranger so passionately when betrothed to another. Which of lcourse , sets other events into motion.
There is also a subplot involving missing pets, twin brothers who mysteriously look like another gentleman of the ton.
None of the plots of these Regency romances can bear close scrutiny as most of them are rather silly, but this one is the silliest.

Viscount Brentwood is walking his dog in the early morning mist when he sees a beautiful woman with a huge mastiff. The woman comes up to him, puts her arms around is neck and kisses him. Her irate father arrives on the scene and Brent knows he has been caught in the parson’s mousetrap. But why? Why did the woman choose him to accost that morning? The more he is around Gabrielle and more kisses are exchanged, he doesn’t think the deal is so bad after all.

It's a nice book with a nice story, but I don't think I'll read it again. He's a nice viscount and treats her well, but still isn't that good a of chap with what they end up doing on their dates. The girl is ok, not a damsel in destress so that's good. It just didn't have much meat to the story, written well, but not something I would return to for a second read.

Good read

Book 4 of this series has loads of angst, a dog mystery, no danger, humor, romance, learned love, a scandal, and a little hot sex. Two people fall in love from an accidental scandal. It's well written and makes you want to keep reading. Highly recommend.

This is book four in the series involving a very interesting, and unusual compromising situation. I thought the passion we saw from Viscount Brentwood and Lady Gabrielle's first encounter would continue to smoulder throughout the novel, but it sort of fizzled and then reignited. This is a change from the three previous books in The Rogues' Dynasty series, which saw that passion between the hero and heroine bubble at the surface like a pot on the stove.

I also don't understand why Lady Gabrielle wouldn't share her reasons for wanting to get out of her arranged engagement. Once her sister knew, there was really no reason not for them to appeal to their father.

This was enjoyable, but it doesn't have the roguish charm that the first three had!

This book was adorable! I liked that the story involved several plot lines, from Gabriella’s difficulty with her sister Rosabelle and complicated family dynamic, to her failed engagement, to her love interest, Brentwood. It was really cute that the author wove into the story the love of animals with her dog Brutus and Brent’s mother’s dog prissy.

Basically Gabriella needs out of her engagement since her sister loves her fiancé. She runs into Hyde park and encounters the Viscount Brentwood. They kiss and are discovered and forced to marry. The book unfolds with them slowly falling in love, as he proves to her that he wants her to be happy and care for her however he can. They have such a playful relationship filled with banter, where at one ball he leaves her to listen to an elderly man read his poetry to her trying to convince him she would be an awful wife. Overall, such a fun and easy read. Definitely recommend if you need a lighthearted historical romance!

Viscount Brentwood (Brent) is walking his mother's dog, Prissy, though Hyde Park when he runs into a beautiful young lady who is accompanied by an extremely large dog. They exchange a few words, and then - she kisses him!!! Before he knows what happened, her father and her fiancee's father are there, demanding to know how long they've been secretly meeting. Naturally Gabrielle's engagement is called off and Gabrielle's father, the Duke of Windergreen, demands that Brent marry her to salvage her honor. He threatens Brent's younger brothers' new shipping company if he does not comply. In the confusion, Prissy runs away.

Lady Gabrielle just caught her younger sister kissing Gabrielle's fiancee! Distraught, she takes her mastiff, Brutus, for a walk through Hyde Park. She comes upon a gentleman walking a tiny dog, and after a few minutes, leans in and kisses him! She doesn't have explanation for her behavior, she was overcome with curiosity and kissed him, and she liked it. She's pleased she'll no longer have to wed her fiancee, but when her father informs her she'll be marrying Brent instead she is horrified - she doesn't want to be forced to marry.

As Gabrielle works to convince Brent that he doesn't want to marry her, he realizes more and more that he does. Gabrielle wants a husband that wants her, not one that's being forced to marry her.

My thoughts:
A Gentleman Never Tells was adorable! I liked both Gabrielle and Brent, they were honorable characters without being saccharinely so. It was funny to watch their story unfold from each of their viewpoints, if only they would have communicated more with each other! The secondary storyline revolving around Prissy being missing was a nice diversion to get these two to spend time together. I liked that the H/H were both dog lovers.

With respect to the secondary characters - they were a juicy bunch! Gabrielle's sister and ex-fiancee totally deserved each other; that's all I'm saying about that. Brent's younger twin brothers were rakish fun - I hope they each get a story. Gabrielle's aunt, who came down to visit for the-wedding-that-didn't-happen, is one of those characters who is insightful and fun. I hope now that she's in London she'll continue to try the Duke's patience!

All in all, A Gentleman Never Tells is a sweet story featuring an adorable couple, their canine companions, a feisty pair of twins, and a mysterious pet thief.

I reviewed this book for Night Owl Reviews - 4.5 Stars

A Gentleman Never Tells by Amelia Grey is the delightful fourth entry in her Rogue’s Dynasty series. Having never read Ms. Grey before, I was happily surprised by her style of writing and with her charming characters. The dialogue was sharp and amusing and I found myself laughing during several of the escapades that take place in this historical romance.

Gabrielle is a wonderful character; young, beautiful and thoughtful, she’s an obedient daughter and a loving sister. Knowing her father expects her cooperation, she agrees to an arranged marriage to a man she doesn’t love. When she discovers her younger sister, Rosa, in her fiancée’s arms one night – she realizes she can’t go through with the wedding. While thinking about her dilemma as she walked through the park the next morning, she encounters an intriguing gentleman walking his dog. Realizing her father is not far behind her; she throws herself into the strange man’s arms and kisses him. While her impromptu behavior frees her from one unwanted engagement, she suddenly finds herself in another engagement – only this time to a complete stranger. She’s going to need a new plan.

Viscount Brentwood is fantastic; he’s handsome, rich and good to his family. Deciding it’s time to marry, he came to London to find a bride and to keep an eye on his younger twin brothers. As the oldest son in the family, he’s also the only person who knows his deceased mother’s secret, which would plunge the family into scandal. While walking his dog, Prissy, he encounters a beautiful young woman, who suddenly walks into his arms and kisses him. He’s then attacked by her father’s servant and finds himself agreeing to an arranged marriage. I really liked what Ms. Grey did with Brentwood’s character, while he’s not thrilled about being railroaded into a marriage he quickly grasps that he could have done much worse – his fiancée is the daughter of a powerful duke (who is not above threatening to make things difficult for the business his younger brothers are starting), she’s beautiful and will more than likely have a good dowry.
