In this lively and hard-hitting book Bové, and François Dufour, recount the dramatic events of their famous demonstration against MacDonald’s and examine the issues behind the resulting campaign, which has now stretched from France and Seattle around the world.
This books follows a truly incredible real story, which instantly gives it a lot of credit. There is not much said about the methodology of the interviews sections and the answers certainly appear prepared rather than flowing from a on-the-spot dialogue, however the book does not claim otherwise. As for the research sections, the author explored new angles not previously presented and tremendous amount of new conceptualisations. Jose Bove and his fellows are incredibly inspiring characters and even as a vegan one cannot but admire their fight against capitalistic exploitation of the food supply albeit focused largely on the dairy industry.
Written in the style of persuasive interviews, this book contains a wealth of information about the arguments against GM crops and intensive farming. The bias of this account is clear (we only really hear one side of the debate), however I believe that I still learnt a lot from it. It is well-written annd engaging, despite being translated from the French. An explanation of the principles of sustainable farming in the appendices act as a useful companion to the text. Worth a read if you're interested in such issues.
really amazing account of a French demonstration against McDonald's and everything after. it will really make u examine your relationship to your food sources, particularly as an american.
