One dark, wild night a mysterious stranger seduced Kim Wright, changing her forever. He did wicked things to her, things she'd never dared dream of. He even bit her! And by doing so, he transformed Kim from an inexperienced mouse to a sinfully sexy woman.
A woman who craved more of what only Stephen could give her.
Now, a year later, Kim has finally found Stephen again. And she still wants him, desperately. But Stephen's not like other men. He can't get attached to any one woman. Still, he can't resist sinking his teeth into Kim just one more time.
Too bad Kim's not going to let Stephen get away that easily--.
A long time ago, in a land far, far away (Milwaukee , WI , St. Luke's Hospital), Chris Marie Green (also writing as Crystal Green) joined the world. While moving to Southern California, Kentucky , then back to California , she amused herself by writing poetry and short stories featuring the ultimate Alpha males--Superman and Indiana Jones. Later, after graduating with a B.A. in English from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo , Chris decided to become a professional writer.
While she wrote, Chris worked as an eighth-grade teacher, but resigned in 2002 to pursue writing full time. Her critique partners, Sheri WhiteFeather and Judy Duarte are instrumental in her endeavors. Without these talented authors, writing would be a lonely road.
Chris is pumped about her Vampire Babylon series for Ace, which is best described as "noir fantasy-mysteries" featuring a vamp hunter. The first five books, NIGHT RISING, MIDNIGHT REIGN, BREAK OF DAWN (which compose the first trilogy), plus A DROP OF RED and THE PATH OF RAZORS (the first two books in the second trilogy) have already been released. The sixth, DEEP IN THE WOODS, will be on shelves on March 2, 2010. A Vampire Babylon-related novella was released in an anthology entitled FIRST BLOOD. (Note: The Vampire Babylon series uses trilogy arcs to tell one basic story, much like the way JK Rowling used seven books that didn’t solve every plot thread book-by-book to tell Harry Potter’s story. While each individual novel focuses on a central mystery that’s solved by the end, the three books together build character and mythology arcs/mysteries until everything culminates in the third book. Each trilogy repeats this pattern.)
Chris is also writes Silhouette Special Editions ("home and hearth" tales of redemption and community) and Harlequin Blazes (steamy fantasies), and whenever she can, she travels, including backpacking trips in Europe and road trips in America . She also enjoys yoga, hiking, and way too much movie-watching.
I'm giving this book 3 stars… I guess for mostly nostalgia purposes. It is not the worst I have listened to so far. Nor is it the best. However, it does have a nostalgic quality for anyone who grew up watching Cinemax or USA up all night. I swear it the whole time that I was listening to this I kept thinking this sounds like it should of been on sex-Max. It has that 80s style romanticized B-movie horror angst ridden vampire lover thing. The way they used to be before twilight. It puts me in mind of movies like "To Die For." And "To Die for II Son of Darkness" I personally would not deem this one as a hot and steamy explicit sex book which is quite surprising considering Harlequin and blazer whatever. I found it to be a little slow for the length of the book itself, but there was just something about it that kept me listening and waiting. I come to realize it was probably the style of the vamp that was taking me back to late nights of USA up all night and Cinemax which anyone 40 or over should know what I mean :-) if you're looking for a short trip down memory lane. This is your book but do not expect, however, do not expect LeStat or Louis. This is definitely more Vlad and Radu or possibly Vlad meets David again. Anyone familiar with 80s vampire movies will know what I mean and I think that is what kept me listening to this particular book. Just out of sheer morbid fascination and fond memories. So if you're looking for a quick read. This is definitely tolerable. However, I doubt it will appeal to anybody looking for an Edward or Wrath. There is not much world building in this either course because it's a one-off mainly, but another thing that makes it nostalgic is they tend to embrace every known vampire weakness out there. This falls back on the original B-movie vampire myths LOL like I said, I personally think this had the great makings if they were still making 80 style vampire horror movies. This would've probably been one of them. It's been a long time since I've read any vampire books it embodied all the old myths and one story. It brought me back to watching all the old movies growing up. I wouldn't want to use a credit on it, but as part of the romance package. I'd say it's worth reading once if not for anything else but old time sake.
A year ago, Kimberly Wright was bitten by a vampire. The experience was a defining moment in her life, and she has been seeking out her vampire ever since. Kim wants nothing more than to be bitten again.
Vampire Stephen is suffering from ennui. The only excitement in his life is that he's been tasked by his maker to hunt down a rogue vampire who has been draining women in Las Vegas. He doesn't dare get attached to a mortal, not unless he wants to risk having his heart broken again.
When Kim encounters Stephen again, she entices him into biting her once more. However, this time, Kim has no intention of letting him get away.
I'll be honest. I'm not sure I'd classify this as a "romance". Kim didn't want Stephen so much as what he could give her, and for his part, Stephen didn't even remember Kim. Not the most auspicious start to a relationship. Frankly, Kim came across as a selfish slag through most of the book, while Stephen struck me as being stand-offish and detached. Of course, by the end they were declaring their true love forever and ever amen. Yawn.
The plot was okay, especially when the mysterious rogue was thrown into the mix. Characterizations were very 'meh' in my opinion.
I wanted some cheesy escapism, and this book isn’t it. None of the characters are likable and the book isn’t romantic or sexy. The heroine is so self-focused on her own needs that she comes off as a arrogant bitch who is jealous at not being the center of attention. The hero is a bored vampire who doesn’t seem to care about anything until this little human becomes obsessed with his bite and then he’s like “oh ok” I will pay little attention to her because she feeds my ego. I think the author wanted the league to be likable, but they came off as stereotypical geeky nerds.
The reason why I didn’t give this book 2 stars for just okay is because I felt the author romanticized addiction and obsession. The main character has a huge of number of issues related to grief which leads her to be obsessed then addicted to the bite. It was not healthy, and the author wrapped it up a little too nicely.
While it is interesting to see a different type of story in a series romance, this one didn't quite live up to being a Blaze story. It was a decent story and I do like the vampire hero, but it lacked the hot chemistry you usually find in a Blaze...and the heroine got a bit annoying at times. The vampire storyline had some interesting twists; however,I found myself skimming sections wanting something more from the characters.
I thought this book would be as unbelievably steamy as the Blaze series with The Braddock Boys who were vampires. I was really disappointed. The story never ignited into flaming passion but just the characters thoughts and doubts about each other. The vamp shouldn't want her, she shouldn't want another bite, could there be more, blah, blah, blah.
It took me a little while to warm up to it, but this is actually a pretty good story. There’s romance, a little action, a little history, and very decent character development. If weren’t for the fact that it has moments where the author went a little overboard with the melodramatics, I’d say this is a five-star read.
At first I was afraid I wouldn't like this book. Before long, as the characters developed, I was hooked. Msn Green's characters brought the book to life. The main characters overcame great sadness. The secondary characters added a lot to the story. I want Edward to have his own book.
If you enjoy a good story, read this. If you enjoy reading about interesting characters with flaws and real life situations, with a paranormal edge thrown in, read this. If you enjoy a sexy, sensual connection between hero and heroine, read this. Oh, and I loved The Lost Boys quality to it, too.
