The Life of the Prophet Muhammad
This children's book on the life of the Prophet Muhammad is taken from traditional Muslim biographical literature, including hadith . Passages from the Qur'an are used throughout to reinforce the stories. The material is authentic and the style lively and attractive. Although the book has been written for children of 10 to 15 years of age, it can be usefully read by anyone as an introduction because of its completeness and clarity. There are 32 colour illustrations although there has been no attempt to portray either the Prophet or his Companions. The illustrations are representative of traditional Islamic life as lived in many Arab countries and portray scenes that have occurred in those countries for over a thousand years.

এসব বিষয়ের কথা মাথায় রেখে লেখিকা লেইলা আজম ও আয়েশা গোওভারনিও ইতিহাসের গভীরে উঁকি না দিয়ে সহজ সরলভাবে হজরত ইব্রাহিম (আ.) কে অগ্নিকুণ্ডে নিক্ষেপের ঘটনা, জমজম কূপের সৃষ্টি, আবরাহা কর্তৃক মক্কা আক্রমণের ঘটনা ও হজরত মুহাম্মদ (সা.) এর সম্পূর্ণ জীবনের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ও উল্লেখযোগ্য বিষয়গুলোকে গল্পচ্ছলে আগ্রহোদ্দীপকভাবে ছোট ছোট অধ্যায়ে ভাগ করে ছোটদের জন্য উপস্থাপন করেছেন।

ছোটদের জন্য লিখছেন বলে মূল ইতিহাসের পরিবর্তে আবেগ তাড়িত হয়ে মনগড়া তথ্য ব্যবহার করেননি। হজরত মুহাম্মদ (সা.) এর মৃত্যুর প্রায় ১২৫-১৩০ বছর পর সর্বপ্রথম তার পূর্ণাঙ্গ জীবনী নিয়ে রচিত মুহাম্মদ ইবনে ইসহাক ইবনে ইয়াসার ইবনে খিয়ারের “আস সীরাতুন-নাবাবিয়্যাহ লি ইবনে ইসহাক” সীরাতের ড. মার্টিন লিংস কর্তৃক ইংরেজি অনুবাদ গ্রন্থটিকে মূল তথ্যসূত্র হিসেবে ব্যবহার করেছেন লেইলা আজম ও আয়েশা গোওভারনিও। পাশাপাশি উপযুক্ত জায়গায় আল কুরআনের বিভিন্ন আয়াতের ব্যবহার বইটিকে যেন পরিপূর্ণতা দিয়েছে। সরাসরি আয়াতের অর্থের ব্যবহার হলেও পড়তে গিয়ে নন-ফিকশন অথবা রেফারেন্স বই মনে হওয়ার কোনো সম্ভাবনা নেই।

বইটিকে ছোটদের জন্য আরো আকর্ষনীয় করে তুলতেই বইয়ে বিভিন্ন প্রাসঙ্গিক ছবি ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে। ছবিগুলোর অধিকাংশই বর্তমান সময়ের। তবে বই পড়ার সময় ছবিগুলো ছোটদের বাড়তি আকর্ষণের কারণ হবে।

বইটির বাংলা অনুবাদ করেছেন সুলতানা স্বাতী; ইতিমধ্যেই তার কিছু অনুবাদগ্রন্থ প্রকাশিত হয়েছে। ছোটদের কথা মাথায় রেখে লেখিকাদ্বয় যেমন সহজ-সরলভাবে বইয়ে হজরত মুহাম্মদ (সা.) এর জীবনী তুলে ধরেছেন, একইভাবে বইটির অনুবাদ করার সময় অনুবাদক সুলতানা স্বাতীও চেষ্টা করেছেন সেই সারল্যের ধারা বজায় রাখতে। অনুবাদের সাবলীলতা ও উপভোগ্যতাই এর প্রমাণ।

আমি পড়ার আগে আমার এক পরিচিত বারো-তেরো বছরের ছোট ভাইকে দিয়েছিলাম বইটা পড়ার জন্য। দুই দিনের মাঝে বইটা পড়ে শেষ করে। এতো দ্রুত পড়ে শেষ করায় ওকে জিজ্ঞেস করেছিলাম যে পড়ার সময় কোনো কিছু বুঝতে সমস্যা হয়েছে কিনা কিংবা কঠিন লেগেছে কিনা। ও বলেছিল যে গল্পের মতো এতো সুন্দরভাবে সব কিছু লেখা হয়েছে যে কোনো কিছুই বুঝতে সমস্যা মনে হয়নি৷ পাশাপাশি পড়ার সময় বইয়ে ব্যবহৃত ছবিগুলোও খুঁটিয়ে খুঁটিয়ে দেখেছে।

বইটির বাংলা অনুবাদ প্রকাশিত হয়েছে প্রতীক প্রকাশনা সংস্থা থেকে। বইটির প্রোডাকশন বেশ ভালো। বইয়ে সামান্য কিছু বানান ভুল ছিল, এগুলো চাইলেই এড়িয়ে যাওয়া সম্ভব। তবে আশা করবো পরবর্তী এডিশনে এসব ভুল ঠিক করা হবে।

সবশেষে, বইটা আসলেই শিশু-কিশোরদের জন্য উপযোগী এবং দারুণ উপভোগ্য।

Hace unos meses hice un viaje a medio oriente en el cual pase por Egipto y Jordania dos países ampliamente musulmanes-sunitas. Mi guía Rashid era un musulmán practicante bastante amigable con lo cual pude generar un buen dialogo intereligioso, incluso me abrí mas al islamismo y deje de verlo de forma negativa como acostumbramos en occidente, especialmente desde 9/11.
Avanzando el viaje ya en Isrrael conocí a un sacerdote Argentino que vivia en el santuario en Eim Karem donde la tradición cuenta que era la casa de la virgen, este lugar ha estado abandonado al rededor de 50 años y antes de eso unos 500 años. Por lo cual veías claramente las ruinas de una iglesia cruzada. El sacerdote cuando dirigí mi nueva visión de los musulmanes y me referí a la época de invasión musulmana y cruzadas como, un momento político económico que llevaron a las religiones a enfrentarse. Yo le dije que Mahoma según lo que había conversado priorizaba ante todo la paz y era un gran amigo de la paz. El sacerdote me dijo "no te dejes engañar, cuando los musulmanes a diferencia de los cristianos que vemos la paz como la harmonía y el orden de las cosas, los musulmanes lo ven como un sometimiento". Quede fuertemente cuestionado por las dos conversaciones.
En la mesquita de Muhamed Ali en el Cairo me regalaron este libro, es un libro muy practico e interesante me ayudo a entender a profundidad la historia islamica y su historia desde Abraham. Hay muchas cosas las cuales no tenía en cuenta acerca de ellos antes de leer el libro, para lo cual la persona que desee profundizar en el profeta de los musulmanes. Es un una lectura recomendada.
Después de leer el libro y observar la forma de evangelizar de Mahoma, me di cuenta que dejaba abierta muchas posibilidades a la Guerra y a la sumisión de las otras religiones bajo el nombre de Alá: para ejemplificar esto quisiera poner un fragmento de la carta que escribe un procurador Romano Cristiano invitandolo a que se convierta al Islam.
From Muhamed Messenger of Alla to Dihyah of Syrian: "If you accept Islam you will be safe and Allah will give you a double reward. If you do not, you will have to live with results of your decision"
Y otras cartas un poco mas amenazantes con lo cual queda claro y abierto que si el profeta no creo la frase "cree o muere" si dejo puertas abiertas al rechazo de la libertad religiosa.
Disculpen un review tan largo y tan personal pero este libro tenía que expresar completamente las razones con las que decidí leer el libro y que significo su lectura para mi.

I picked this up during a trip to Egipt where they give copies of these for free to western visitors of mosques. As expected, it is your run-of-the-mill religious propaganda, but I was surprised to find it bearable. The style is simple, as the book is meant for children. If you want more serious insight into Islam you can try Islam: A Short History or even The Oxford History of Islam.

A beautiful and simple read for those who want to know the life and events of the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH). Recommended for non-Muslims and those who want a quick and general read of the Prophet Muhammed's (PBUH) life.

I read this book and met the author in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. I hope and pray she is doing well. I found her inspiring, as is indeed, her book!

I bought this to read to my kids, but decided to read it on my own first. It is really well written and has lovely illustrations, two things that I have found very lacking in a lot of the Islamic kids’ books that have been published more recently! I enjoyed the first half. The second half focused primarily on battles and politics. I wish it had contained more stories about life for the Muslim community in Medina and about the Prophet as a community leader and family man. There are no citations aside from Quran verses. It also contains some stories of weak authenticity (ex: the spider and dove at the Cave of Thawr) or questionable historic reliability (ex: Abu Sufyan's meeting with Emperor Heraclius). Overall, it is worth having in your collection for youth (probably best for middle school and up), but definitely should be accompanied by conversations about reliability of some Hadith.

A book written for kids, but enjoyed by adults as well. The language is simple, style flawless and there is nothing controversial. The authors have depended only on genuine historical and religious accounts. This is by far the simplest version of the complete seerah in English that I've come across.

A fun and concise read that brushes one up on key names and skeletal details of the sirat. Despite its handiness, it is unfortunately filled with numerous typos and neglects to provide key info behind certain events.

Although this book did a great job of making the life of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ digestible for young readers I do feel my one qualm with this book is: there are no sources cited anywhere as a reference point for where certain stories were derived from.
I feel as I continue to read more books to knowledge myself, the more I see that not a lot of books have the sources of where their stories are derived from. Considering there are weak & authentically strong hadiths, I do feel it’s important for authors to put where they are getting their stories from.
It feels like I’m just supposed to trust the authors did their homework.
My other qualm with the book is the lack of mention of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ family. Yes yes I know this is a story on his (ﷺ) life as a Prophet and there was a mention of Khadijah (ra) however, I do feel there not being a mention of his daughter Fatimah (ra) or grandsons Hassan and Hussein (ra) does downplay the role a family plays in a persons life, or in this case the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ life.
There is an epilogue of sorts on the wives of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the mention of Hassan & Hussein (ra) and children to his daughter Fatimah (ra), but I do feel mentioning the closeness he had with his family within the actual book would have been beneficial for young readers to see that side of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, he (ﷺ) was a messenger but he (ﷺ) was also a very involved person in he (ﷺ) family life too.
Not sure if this is a reach but it does feel since it was an epilogue and not part of main story, it kind of relates to me more of a wider implication of how men in communities nowadays don’t give their wives / families their due right of attention. And by the authors not including mention in the main story of his family - daughters, grandsons, wives (yes I know he had many + there was mention of Khadijah (ra) which by all accounts was the most important one but I do feel it could have been a couple lines of marrying to form stronger bonds of alliances in some cases etc.) etc. - it takes that perspective of not really important part of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ life although it very much was.

The life of the Prophet Muhammad by Leila Azzam is a magnificent introduction about an admirable messenger /prophet of God. The book would be great for those new or unaware of the Prophet's life. The book contains colorful pictures that keep the children interested throughout. The language also is very easy and clear. The life of the Prophet Muhammad is taken from conventional Muslim biographical literature. While the book has been written for children; it would be very useful to read by anyone or any age. I enjoyed reading this book with my children when they were young. I highly recommend this book for any child as a great introduction to the greatest man ever

A very quick read. Seeing as it's aimed at a younger audience, it's understandably a bit overly simplified. This is a good place for the curious adult with no previous info on Islam and its Prophet to start exploring this religion, but I'd definitely recommend additional reading to accompany this book.

In my theology era - I did not realize this was a childrens book and i kind of am offended that Fadi started me here but whatever hahahah it was an easy fun read and I learned a lot. I love learning about different religions and what people believe in and i want to go to every single religious holiday of every single religious group if you all will have me thanks < 33333

The narrative is good. But the story raises serious questions on the expedition of the religion by the messenger with force and threats.
