Carolina is about two characters; Caroline and Jacob, that go through many ups and down in their life before ending up together. The author Heather Matthews makes it griping, leaving you wondering how these two will meet. A great story and must read. Leaves your heart warm in the end!
I have wanted to read this story for so long and I enjoyed it. It was an emotional read. The whole story lead up to the meeting of the two main characters near the end of the book. Would have liked to see their relationship developed more. IMO, it seemed like love at first sight, and the book concluded with a happy ending.
This was a pretty good book, but had many ups and downs for me. The writing was well done and the story very interesting, but I was expecting a romance and this really wasn’t one. The two main characters didn’t even meet until about 90% into the story. Then their romance was pretty much crammed into what felt like a quick summary.
It was more of a coming of age book for the main female character, Caroline, Carrie, Carolina. (Whatever her name was. I really couldn’t keep up sometimes.) About half way through the book she stated that everyone called her Carrie, BUT, if that’s the case why were they all still calling her Caroline? She would be called Carrie and Caroline in the same paragraph. There were also some other name (general editing) issues that bothered me. The gay lover’s name went from Xander at the beginning of the book to Xavier at the end. The best friend’s dad went from being Dean Pattinson to Jim Pattinson. Speaking of characters…there were a LOT of them. This normally would not be an issue, but the author felt it necessary to elaborate on where life took each and every one of them. There were also a few times when scenes seemed to go on and on without adding anything to the storyline.
With some editing, this could be a really great book. Without it, I still enjoyed it very much simply because I really liked the characters of Caroline and Jacob and enjoyed their journeys.
This book drove me over the edge. The writing was almost like a rough draft -- not a smooth flowing storyline and the editing left much to be desired. There was a good story to be told and a good cast of characters, but for me at least, the presentation lacked a great deal. I finished the book but I'm VERY DISAPPOINTED because I had such high expectations for a great read and it was not.
I loved this book. My favorite character was Stella Davis, a high-strung blonde country star who causes lots and lots of trouble. I finished the whole book in just a few hours of straight reading.
