Book #4 of the Lesson SeriesWith so many lessons to learn, Ginny's back in yet another novel adventure. Having been ripped from a good life in Wyoming, Ginny, a 21st century woman living in the past, has had enough. She doesn't want to meet another eligible gentleman and definitely doesn't want to fall in love.Baron Oliver Conway becomes her unsuspecting hero. With him and his three friends all ready to give up their bachelor ways, can Lord Conway convince Ginny to fall in love with him and give him his happily ever after?Or will Ginny be too busy helping her sister and friend find love to pay much attention to her own character's life?
I started writing fiction at the age of 12 for my friends. Of course, in those days, I was the heroine, saving dashing rock stars from their ruin. Now, somewhat older, hopefully wiser, I decided to finally put down my ideas on paper and write about a heroine not unlike myself (personality wise, certainly not realistically).
After finding my own soulmate (which is just another word for the only man willing to live with me), and having two beautiful children, I'm changing my stay-at-home mom status to part-time author. Which isn't to say that my days are not still filled with laundry and dishes, but I've also added writing.
I have many plans for my heroine, Ginny. She will meet matchmakers, pirates, cowboys and maybe a vampire or two. If I've read it in a romance novel, you can bet, Ginny will live it in an upcoming novel.
Thank you for all the support from my family and friends. Without my overly encouraging husband, none of these books would have been written. And I really appreciate my fellow neighborhood mommies. They make the best editors in the world.
This book wasn’t as good as the others, I found myself bored from time to time and it was pretty repetitive. I do love the others books though! Hope the next one is good
A Lesson in Friendship is the fourth installment in Jennifer Connors "Lesson" series. The series started out in book one by introducing the character Ginny in modern day times. She seemed hopeless to find a loving relationship. A friend introduces her to romance novels which Ginny thinks are ridiculous stories that could never happen in real life. Despite this, she reads the books out of curiosity. Soon thereafter she is in an accident and is suddenly transported back in time. The first book covers her foray into a romantic lesson in Scotland. The second book starts another adventure in learning forgiveness in Regency England. The third book takes her to the old, wild West to learn a further lesson in love. In this latest novel, she is back in England facing a new challenge.
Each time she moves about, it is a different place, year and circumstances. Ginny is not in her own body, but assumes the identity of someone else. Similar to the tv series "Quantum Leap". The difference being she must live out a romance novel life and fall in love each time with a handsome stranger before being transported again. She has no one to help her, but does gain the memories of the woman's identity she has taken. This helps her to take on the role and fulfill her latest quest in learning about love.
In A Lesson on Friendship, Ginny has grown tired of her jumps through time. She truly felt the man she fell in love with in the last book was the one for her. Having to start over is particularly rough and she resists it, but can't help getting drawn into the story. There are others that need her help this time. That gives Ginny more purpose than ever before. Though you don't feel the romance as much in this book for the main character, you do feel it for the secondary characters. It was certainly more about Ginny helping her new found friends than about her own life (though that is there too).
This latest installment in the Lesson series was fun, adventurous, and enjoyable. I have truly become a fan and look forward to each novel wondering when Ginny will resume her old life and find her own love. If you like time travel books, this series may be for you, though I recommend starting from the beginning. The heroine is smart, funny and daring. She will get into messes, say the wrong things (due to her modern background), and act out of character for her role at times, but it all adds up to how any of us may react under similar circumstances.
The author publishes her books independently, but don't let this deter you from reading the books. They are well thought out and written. I admit to spotting a few spelling errors and typos, but they are not frequent and do not detract from the story. The price of these novels makes it well worth the investment as you will enter a whole new concept in romance that hasn't been done before!
Ginny has been burned by the hasty shifting of her lives. She doesn't get to enjoy her relationships once things have reached a happy place. So in this novel, she's determined not to fall in love, not to give her heart only to have the man she loves ripped away from her. There's some narration that casts doubt about the "true love" nature of her previous relationships. As she's pouting about the loss of Colby from A Lesson in Patience, she actually reveals that the relationship really wasn't all that. The series takes a turn with this book in my view. Yes the lessons she learns in each novel are important facets of a committed relationship, but she becomes too focused on the sexual intimacy and emotions that surround a Happily Ever After. While there is a friendship in this novel, I felt like it was surfacey - shallow - and unworthy of the lesson.
Unlike the previous books, this story is somehow slow-paced for me that at some points I become bored with endless conversation and less action. The time period is the same as the second book, the same norms and traditions that the people of that time should make.
Anyway, as the title is named, this story focused more on how should future partners develop friendship before moving on to the next level. I can also understand Ginny's depression (since I also read the third book and having enjoyed her adventure with Colby). I somehow don't feel the chemistry between Sarah (Ginny's Character) and Oliver, that it the pairing is somewhat forced unlike on the other pairings in this book. Anyway, it is still enjoyable for me.
I ended up really liking this book. At first, it bothered me that Connors didn't clarify the year of the novel, but that came later. I liked how Ginny kept referring back to her previous relationships and what she was feeling. Connors continues to make Ginny real and not just a character in a novel. I enjoyed Colin and the drama surrounding the characters in this book. I also liked the fact that this book took me out of all the fantasy that one buys into when you read a typical romance novel. Connors talked about how life in the 1830's was not so comfortable. I liked how she added more depth into this novel. This book in the series is a re-read for me.
Ginny annoyed me in this one. She was so caught up on Colby when he was not even a good MC?? Like I understand her missing the kids but COLBY? Ugh come on girl
Oliver was by far my favourite MC, he deserved so much more than Ginny who kept dragging him around. This was also my favourite book (even though I was annoyed) he was the only MC that wasn’t a jerk and you could actually see the slow progression in their relationship, and it was the most realistic love story.
Overall I loved it, I loved how they got together in the end. I wish I had more of them tbh I definitely recommend this book ❤️
Oh!!! This was a difficult one! All these relationships that she was developing and then being ripped from was getting to her. This story she has to marry and the guy that wants her hand because she is the most beautiful really has to work to get her favor because she is nursing a broken heart! The friendship that they develop was so much fun to watch!
This fourth installment in the "Lesson" series is slower paced and with little action. There are also many secondary characters who didn't interest me that much, well, less than Ginny. Still, "A lesson in friendship" is a fun read.
I absolutely LOVED this series! I loved how much history was wrapped up into each book. They are easy reads and I found myself laughing quite a lot!! Great story lines and I can't wait till the next book comes out!
Wonderful, heart warming romance. Again, another superbly touching story with many facets. A lovely, intuitive heroine that can only be admired. The hero of this was not as enticing and captivating as the heroes of the previous stories, but still the drama was enthralling.
Good Read. Book 4 of 9. Ginny is tired of looking for love and it turns out to be drawing her hero, Oliver, in deeper. I loved the story, but Ginny was a bit annoying sometimes. I still enjoyed the book and am looking forward to book 5.
Uhm.. sorry ms connors, but I didn't enjoy this one. I felt a bit bored and I think it was a bit too predicable? I just hope ginny would return home soon and meets with her own hae.
