A delicious collection of Regency short stories ranging from romp to adventure, from fantasy to mystery, all superbly written. You’ll be amused, charmed, chilled, enthralled or fascinated, all while appreciating these wonderful, mostly new Regency voices. Savor meticulous plotting, laugh out loud at the animal and human antics or just giggle. Whichever your preference, you will have treated yourself, Gentle Reader, very well indeed!
The three things that I loved most while growing up were sports, classical music and writing. Now, as a grown-up (sometimes) I write about sports and classical music--and other things. I'm published in fiction and non-fiction and my world is filled with wonderful music, exciting theater and vibrant opera! Along the way I got married, became a race car driver and a mom, which settled me down a little bit. I've been a radio announcer and taped books for the Library of the Blind, driven and sold 18-wheelers and written plays and poetry and romance novels, among other things. I do reasonably well at photography, and I still love women's basketball and women's tackle football. Yes, indeed, there is such a thing--and they're wonderful! I'm now single and the proud mother of a terrific adult son and a dearly loved daughter (now deceased).
Our publishing venture began with a contest: this book is the result. Everyone who entered the contest is a winner. For the purists among you, I must add that the time period was expanded from the normal Regency (1811-1820) to Prinny’s lifetime.
~~~I’ve had this book on my personal wishlist for several years because of my love of traditional Regencies. Before Covid 19, I visited a library’s used bookstore when one of the volunteers mentioned that an elderly woman donated her old historical romance stash. Needless-to-say, I was one happy lady. This was one of the books I found.
I admire who writes a story with a fascinating plot. And I especially appreciate an author that can hold my interest. This was the conundrum I ran into with A Regency Sampler. With the exception of two stories (not all of them are romances), I found them forgettable. This surprised me because several were written by now-popular authors. FYI, it took me over a month to read this collection.
The Christmas Bride by Beth Andrews Just Like Old Times by Karl Richards Belvedere by Jo Manning The Boxford Legacy by Victoria Hinshaw An Arranged Marriage by Alexandria Shaw An Unusual Correspondence by Susan McDuffie The Dancing Master by Anne Woodley The Wicked Waltz by Sheri Cobb South A Lady of Discretion by Janna Lewis The Visit by Steven R. Abaroa
A Singular Woman by Nina Caron Davis 3 stars My favorite: an inter-racial romance between a man with hard-luck and a courtesan. Unfortunately, I could not find anything else written by this author.
Milady’s Murderer by Sarah Starr The Final Wager by Adam Naef Neptune’s Quizzing Glass by Sandra Heath
The Viscount’s Angel by Suzannah Carleton 3 stars Another decent story by a new-to-me author.
