Slate City Omegaverse #2

Knot All that Glitters

Rate this book
All she ever wanted was a quiet life doing what she loved. Her family had other plans.

Being the Omega daughter of Slate City’s favorite politician is exhausting. Everyone in our family is perfect. Good jobs, good images, no scandals, and smiling at all times. That’s not me, and it never will be.

No matter how hard I try.

All I’ve ever wanted was a simpler life—to choose what I want to do, have a pack who loves me, and be happy—but that’s not an option. My entire life is already planned out for me. Every step carefully curated to make sure my family stays at the top, in the spotlight, and in power. Of course, I will be their dutiful Omega daughter.

That was before I got trapped in a closet with an Alpha whose scent made me want to misbehave. And before I found out that he’s my new bodyguard. His pack smells like paradise, drowns me with passion, and doesn’t care about my family’s plans. They only want me.

From the outside my life seems perfect, but I know better than anyone that knot all that glitters is gold. I want to break out of the cage I’m in, and I want these men to help me do it. But when you’re on a pedestal to the entire world… there’s a very long way to fall.

Knot All That Glitters is a standalone reverse harem Omegaverse. No choosing, no cheating, and a guaranteed HEA! This book is part of a series of standalones, and can be enjoyed on its own, without reading any other books in the series. Content Warnings available on the author's website.

A super sweet story. But too sweet at times. It was very instalove, the men were too perfect for her, there was no development and not a single bit of conflict or even one agreement between the guys and the FMC. Speaking of her, she was a doormat to her father. She had no backbone or any sense of self. There were a lot of forgotten/pointless plot points, and a lot of the outside conflict made no sense. It read like the author didn’t even know who the big bad guy was going to be or the reasoning behind it all. It this was a simple, short cozy romance of just an omega finding her pack, I would have liked it so much more but it was trying for too much.

I’m in love with this series. Much more intense than the first book, which made it delightful. I cannot wait for the next book! I hope we get a book for Sloane or Iris.

SUMMARY: (SPOILER WARNING)

Petra is the daughter of a Senator and has a stepmother who might just be considered evil and manipulative. She hasn't had the easiest life either -- having lost her mother and two other fathers from her parents' pack in a car accident as a child. So she goes through the motions and does what she can to keep her dad happy. But she's not happy.

All of that changes when she meets Cole, who is on bodyguard duty during a gala. The two of them immediately recognize each other as mates -- aka scent sympathize. And Cole is sure she is not just his, but the Omega for the rest of his already established pack too.

As Petra and her new pack get to know each other, things aren't easy. They all fall quickly, but outside sources are bound to keep them apart -- a mysterious stalker, her stepmother, and even her father, are bound and determined to keep her from happiness with her pack.

Can she overcome all the obstacles in front of her so she can finally be happy with a loving pack?

REVIEW:

This was just okay. I really enjoyed the first book in this series (Knot Your Damn Omega), so I was looking forward to this one. But I didn't like it as much for a few reasons I'll get to below...

First off, I did like all of the guys and how they are in an already established pack. They were all sweet and I liked them. I think I liked Harrison the most, but that's not a surprise for me. I tend to be most drawn to the guy in the RH who has the boss/daddy vibes going on. Not sure why, but it just does it for me. lol

But I did like all of them and I liked that she got some good one-on-one time with each of them as well.

Petra is another story. I didn't hate her character, but she did annoy me a bit. She starts off as a total pushover who just does everything she's told. It never even occurs to her until about 90% into the book to just do what makes her happy. She can't even fathom following her own path in life over obeying her father and stepmother and whatever they want her to do.

I mean...c'mon. There are people all around her telling her to stop worrying about what others think and to just do what makes her happy. But it just goes in one ear and out the other until finally it clicks. And this whole part of her personality really made me dislike her.

Once she finally started putting her foot down and stopped jumping through all the hoops, I liked her a lot more. But before that (for most of the book), I just couldn't respect her as a character.

Then there's the plot.

First we have a stalker thing going on which was interesting at times, but also somewhat obvious what was happening. I didn't put it ALL together, but the fact that Carmen was involved was pretty obvious to me. I never would've trusted her any farther than I could throw her.

We also had her dad and stepmom pushing her to bond with a pack from an influential family that they want to make a political connection with. Turns out this is connected to the stalker plot. But anyways, Petra doesn't tell them about her guys right away for...reasons (that I don't understand) and so she's trying to figure out a way out of having to bond with this rando pack she's not interested in. When seriously? The answer is so obvious. Bond with the pack you are with! Duh, right? Well she doesn't think of this until the end of the book for some reason. But it was pretty darn obvious what she needed to do from the start. Not sure why she was so slow to figure that out, but it was rather annoying.

And there is one thing about the way the story was told to at made no sense to me. There was this random time jump 5 days into the future. We then, jump back into the past to see what happened during those 5 days before the timeline caught up. Sometimes I can see why an author would use a time jump in a story. But in this case it didn't seem to actually serve a purpose to be told this way and it just seemed random and out of place.

The story was also just too long. It's basically insta love with the scent sympathizing going on, so I really don't think it needs to be 450 pages long. Seriously if it's going to be insta love then make it like 300 pages or less. Any more and the story just drags.

Overall it was okay in places and meh in others. The steam wasn't very good and the book was too long. I didn't love the FMC, but I did like the MMC's. I might still read the next one because I do really like Sloane, but hopefully it will be better than this one.

I really love this series so far.
The last book was so sweet and sexy and heartbreaking that I had big expectations for this one. And I think it really delivered.

All the guys are so sweet and loving and Really want things to work out. I loved seeing them all get closer.

Plus it was just a hot as hell book. The spice was spicing..😂

I’ll be honest. I’m writing this review a while after finishing the book, so I can’t really remember much else I want to say about it.
I know I really liked it.
Can’t remember anything I took issue with.
🤷🏻‍♀️
It was a hot, cozy, omegaverse, and I can’t wait for the next in the series to come out.

I loved every minute of this book! Absolutely stellar Omegaverse book!

Since Petra's mother and two of her father's died, she has done everything she can to not make trouble. She's unwittingly sacrificed her own happiness for the sake of her father's public image and political ambitions. Petra has been lost and alone, but all that changes when she scent-matches with a handsome stranger at a fundraiser gala. Cole is working security at said fundraiser when he, too, catches her scent and becomes completely overwhelmed with the desire to find her. He knows immediately that she's is what his pack has been looking for. It turns out that Cole will be Petra's new bodyguard since she's been getting death threats. After their serendipitous introduction as protector and protectee, Cole takes her to meet the rest of his pack. Emery, Blake, and Harrison also scent-match with Petra. What follows is a lot sweetness and spice, intrigue and family drama.

I loved all the men! Sinclair does a good job writing cohesive packs with characters that maintain their individuality. The MMCs were mature, emotionally intelligent, respectful, and supportive. Petra's apprehension about giving into the scent-matching was fitting due to her past, but she didn't push them away. With her packs support, she learns to stand up for herself and what she truly wants and deserves. This lesson did seem to take a little too long for her learn, but I just loved the journey so much I'm not gonna lower my rating. The plot was not ground-breaking and I was correct in my guess at the ultimate outcome, but that didn't ruin anything. I loved spending time with these characters through their ups and downs. I found that I couldn't stop myself from smiling throughout the book.

I'm hoping Sloan's story will be the next the Slate City universe.

This was just...okay. I liked Petra and her guys. I prefer sweet omegaverse where the guys are on board with being together from the beginning; no reluctant alphas here. I liked Stormy the leopard.

But I really hate storylines where the MC is a doormat and won't stick up for herself. Literally all the heartache Petra was going through could have been avoided if she'd simply said no. Sure, she eventually came to that realization, but it took most of the book which just made her annoying and made me want to shake her. I get that she didn't want to disappoint her dad, but the extent she was willing to sacrifice her happiness was OTT.

An issue with any omegaverse or reverse harem type of book is that with so many love interests, the author has to walk a delicate balance between making them all unique while also not writing seriously cliched typecasted characters. I had a hard time really feeling invested in any of the men, but thankfully they weren't super cliched. There were a ton of steamy scenes, but I actually started to get bored with them.

So overall, this book was fine for what it was. Most people who read this genre will probably like it if they can get past Petra being a doormat. But I'm always going to measure omegaverse books against the beauty of Lola & the Millionaires so this was just...okay.

It reminded me too much of the other book in this series. All smut, little plot, a sprinkle of emotion but no real connections. I think that was my problem with the last book too. I think the author had a hit and tried to replicate it a little too closely to get more than two from me.

Drunk on Honey

Devyn Sinclair is an amazing writer. Each story she writes, I consume myself in and I never want it to end. This story is no exception. I loved Petra's story! She is both strong and vulnerable but loves with everything she has. Even if the love costs her everything.

Petra DeWitt-Merriton is the daughter of a senator, Russell Merriton. With having been in a horrific car accident many years ago, she lost her mother and two other dads and Now Russell and his new wife, Carmen is all she has left. When Petra is finally on course to have her freedom, she finds herself targeted by a stalker. When her father decides to have a security detail put on Petra, she never in a million years would have thought the new security might just be the alpha she's scent sympathetic too as well as his pack.

"Was it... normal to crave Alpha cum like you were an addict in need of a fix?"

Harrison, Cole, Emery and Blake are EVERYTHING! I loved all of these alphas so much. They all were immediately enamored with Petra and were willing to do anything to get her to be theirs. They were understanding and soothing but also hard and were not willing to let anything hurt the woman they love.

"Breathing no longer kept me alive. He did. Kissing this Alpha was oxygen. I didn't know if I could ever life without it."

This book was great! I didn't want to stop turning the pages. With stalking nightmares, twists and turns and the whole "What the heck Dad" issues going on, not to mention the super steamy scenes I could get lost in, I never wanted this book to end! It was a fantastic read with a great plot and better characters. You need to read this book asap!

*Overall 5/5
*Heat? 5/5
*Fast Burn!!!
*MFMMM (No MM)
*Multiple first person POV
*Ends on HEA!

Knots. Glittery Os. Stalking and Protective Alphas

I devour Omegaverse books. They’re one of my favorite tropes. I love the dynamic between omegas and alphas. However, this book missed the mark for me a little bit.
Petra was my least favorite character. Well, second to Carmen. But she was weak. No backbone at all. Just going through the motions of life, a puppet in her father’s political career. Luckily, she meets Cole and the rest of his pack. They definitely had alpha qualities. Dominance, the need to care and provide for their omega, and of course the want to protect Petra. However, they were not very alpha-like when it came to the Gidwitz situation. I would have expected much more aggravation and “mine” mentality whenever the subject of them came up.
The plot was decent. I liked seeing characters come up that I read about in previous books. It was obvious who the “stalker” was and I was even able to figure out the extra plot twist, but not the why until it was revealed. Petra finally spoke her mind at the end and stood up for herself. I also enjoyed the big middle finger when she announced she was bonded.
I like steamy romance. This book had it. I even enjoyed the scene with the desserts Blake came up with based on Petra’s scents and “taste.” However, I know the title has “glitter” in it, but some of the descriptions during sexy time were very repetitive with all the “glitter” and “sparkle” and “gold.” And F bombs. Petra could have been more creative with her words while she was being pounded repeatedly by 4 alphas.
Overall, there were things I liked and things I didn’t. I never felt the need to DNF the book and it’s omegaverse, so I kept it at 3 stars.

Dnf 17%. Sorry it was just not for me. Its was giving very insta love and thats just not my style. I needed more drama before they get together. It also seemed very juvenile? Or teenish with the dialogues and stuff. A bit cringe. Just not for me.

A 'sweet' omegaverse story with a touch of political thriller at the end. Filled with the sexy yankee candle scents of fate™, as so many omegaverse stories are. I wonder where that trope originated? I mean, it's all about 'my fated mate smells awesome', but how did that turn into 'my fated mate smells like candy and their jizz tastes like salted caramel (and not like salted snot)'?

ANYway, Petra smells like honey and cinnamon and that's enough to whammy her new pack, who just happen to be her upstairs neighbors and also hired by her politician dad to be her bodyguards due to some scary threats. Cue tons of pampering and a heat sex scene that spans multiple chapters.

Features a cameo by Esme and her pack of famous tattoo artists from the last book, and a hook for who the next book will be about.

I really enjoyed this one! I love books where the couple, in this case, pack is together early on and throughout the book. The angst and conflict comes from outside not the relationship so much.

Petra’s mother died in a car accident many years earlier. It killed her mother and two of her mothers bonded alphas. Petra survived and remained with her father who wasn’t in the car that night. Both were haunted by the loss. Then her dad meets Carmen who becomes Petra’s *literal* wicked stepmother. Her father is oblivious and blind to her stepmothers machinations.

This world doesn’t seem to have fated mates but rather scent sympathetic matings. I loved Petra and Cole catching each others scent in the and desperately trying to find each other. The dynamic between Petra and her alphas is very sweetverse. Not a single alphahole in sight. Cole, Harrison Emery & Blake are all dreamy book boyfriends.

Carmen, of course, causes most of the conflict. She’s dead set on forcing an arranged mating for Petra with a politically advantageous pack and is willing to go to any length to ensure it happens. Petra also has a deranged, murderous stalker. Fun. Luckily, her scent sympathetic pack are her body guards 😏.

Fast burn, Petra and her new pack agree to take it slow but her inner omega has other ideas and she goes into Heat around 25% and her very caring alphas come to the rescue.

No push away
No manwhores
No OW drama
OM drama
No sex scenes with others
No cheating
No separation
HEA

Safety - I’d consider this safe. Petra is never interested in the other pack. They agree to meet her at the behest of one of the alpha’s dads (George is the alpha, his father is Charles) and understanding that Petra is supposedly eager to meet them. They realize quickly that she isn’t interested and since they’d been cajoled into the meeting they are happy to drop it until…

George’s dad basically says he’ll be disinherited if he doesn’t agree so while their pack is sympathetic to Petra they won’t go against George’s dad, Charles. So it’s on Petra to get out of the mating - which she, of course, eventually does.

Omega verse is a hit and miss with me. Sometimes those books are sucking me in and refusing to let me go again. Other times I'm struggling my way through them. So, I'm always a little reluctant when I'm offered an omega verse review copy. However, I've read quite a few books by Devyn Sinclair so far and I've loved each and every one. So when I was offered a review copy of this book I didn't hesitate and decided to accept.

I'm so glad I gave this book a chance because it was exactly the kind of read I needed at the moment. It had exactly the right amount of plot and danger and tension to go with all the romance and sweetness to keep me hooked. But it was most of all some sort of hug. It's so satisfying to see someone finding the happily ever after they deserve. It's so satisfying to see someone who has been mistreated for so long finally be treated right.

In this case the connection between our heroine and her pack was there from the start and yet they took the time to get to know each other. The went on dates, they had meaningful and emotional conversations, they learned what the other needed when and how to interpret their body language. And they really managed to turn that instant connection and the insta lust into a deep kind of love I can believe will last a lifetime.

It was however mostly the heroine I quickly grew attached too. Probably because I recognized some parts of myself in her. She was willing to give up so much for the people she loves. She was even willing to let go of her biggest dream. It didn't take long, probably only a few chapters, before I'd gotten attached to her and from then on I was just rooting for her to break free, to follow her own heart and to find her happiness.

I will certainly read the other books set in this world, because I absolutely loved this one!

Breathless. I was breathless, and they were my oxygen.

Another amazing omegaverse from Devyn Sinclair! I absolutely love her brand of sweet OV that includes scent matches (scent-sympathy in this universe), all-in MMCs, and a ton of spice. I found this story to have a little more angst than book three (yes, I read them out of publishing order...) as Petra fought the compulsion to do what was expected of her and what she truly desired.

This book is fast-burn and super spicy with abundant MF and group scenes, growly and dominant alphas, toy usage, and hole-filling (lots and lots of knotting – including oral). Good Girls and dirty talk, plus four alphas with an cock-warming obsession.

I loved this OV and highly recommend it with the rest of the Slate City Omegaverse reads.

Genre: Contemporary Omegaverse
Tropes/Features: bodyguards, scent matches, hurt/comfort, cinnamon roll Alphas, all-in MMCs, senator’s daughter FMC, evil stepmother, stalker (with death threats), snow leopard, group scenes, “Good Girl”, DP, cock warming, toys
Narrator: Multiple 1st Person POV
Relationship Type: Why choose – MFMMM, fast-burn, very spicy
Book Type/Ending: Standalone (with crossover characters in Slate City universe), HEA
TW/CW: Available on website or by scanning QR code in Author’s note

My first true Omegaverse novel!! I LOVED IT. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about scent sympathy since it’s a bit like instalove but it was fantastic. There was a lot of tension and I fell in love with each of the alphas. The climax (giggety) had me biting my nails, and the spice was spicing *eyebrow wiggle* Loved it and def will be reading more omegaverse now.

4.5 ⭐️ I love this series so much!

The books aren't perfect, but they really do accomplish everything I need them to - and this one was no different. Getting to see Esme and Eva again was great but honestly, I think I liked this one more than the first one!

I loved Petra and her alphas so much! And I didn't feel like there were favourites or like someone's connection was deeper than others. I listened to this on audiobook, and it was pretty great. There were some scenes that made me cringe that I'm sure would've been good if I'd been reading the book instead, but that happens sometimes. I'm not sure if it's a me-thing, but hearing spicy scenes narrated can be either super fun or super cringe and the line is *fine*.

Either way, I enjoyed this book immensely, and although we could see the villain/plan forming since basically the beginning of the book, it was still so entertaining. I love omegaverse romances, and this series is turning into one of my favourites in the genre - even though I usually prefer my reverse harems to have all parties involved with each other, iykwim, and this one is FMMMM, meaning none of the guys feels any connection to each other apart from the familial pack love (idk, when I explain it, it sounds incest-y, but it is what it is lol).

🌶🌶🌶🌶 - I mean, it's a reverse harem omegaverse romance, I think we all know what we sign up for when reading these. It was pretty amazing, and there are scenes with all the guys individually as well.

I just absolutely love a good Omegaverse book! This is book 2 in the Slate City Series. It can be read as a stand-alone, but I always suggest reading in order because it does interconnect with book one! This follows Petra, a daughter of a senator who seems to have her life controlled by her rude stepmother. She always fell in line and stayed out of the spotlight so she wouldn't tarnish or ruin her fathers chances at becoming Chancellor. Then, she met one of her scent sympathetic mates. When they both scent each other, they went literally nuts trying to find each other. The rest was history when she met the rest of his pack. Cole, Harrison, Blake, and Emery would burn the WORLD down for their omega. The entire story is all about protecting Petra due to a threat to her life. Did I kind of guess who it was? Yes. Did I care? No, I still highly enjoyed every second of this book, and im definitely moving onto the next one in the series!

Family Drama

Living the life of as a politician's daughter is exhausting. Petra was an Omega and was expected to fit into a perfect little mold.

Having everything decided for her; she dreamed of the day when she would be able to make her own choices. Especially when she cross paths with a Pack of Alpha she wants for herself.

From the outside looking it appears that Petra has a perfect life, perfect family, perfect upbringing, perfect everything but in truth Petra was very much caged.

As she break away from the suffocation of her father and stepmother she begins to enjoy the life she always imagined as an Omega. Unfortunately, someone doesn't want Petra to have peace and she lives in constant fear and unbeknownst to her the danger is closer than she realizes. Will her Alphas be able to protect Perez and keep her safe or will they lose her to the demands of her parents?

What can I say. I’m a sucker for bodyguard books… and this story had two sexy bodyguards!! I loved this story the most, so far, Petra was such a good person. So were her guys. We meet Cole first as he’s working a political event as a bodyguard. Then comes Harrison, Emery, and Blake. It’s your typical Omegaverse story but they don’t turn into animals. There’s no shifting but all of the qualities.

It was a little predictable with the whole evil/stalker danger. I knew right away who it was. Which the whole reasoning behind was not executed well at all. We never get an actual good reason for why they wanted her dad to win. Carmen was just evil? But why??? The why behind all the awful actions was missing. However, if you can look pass that it wasn’t a bad story and only confused me slightly. I really enjoyed this one.

A beautifully written omegaverse story!

I really like Devyn Sinclair’s omegaverse stories. They all stand up on their own as complete works but the characters from previous books are interwoven. I really related to Petra and the drama of her family. And the way she is trying to finally do something that is just for her own happiness. Her pack is everything you need them to be: protective, warm, caring, and hot as hell. I enjoyed their scent interplay.

The drama and danger that looms overhead through most of the story really pays off in a way that feels satisfying. I really enjoyed this book! These alphas felt like a safe haven 🥰

4 smut stars. New-to-me author. This was fun even if a bit predictable. I like the variety of characters. It wasn’t a literary masterpiece, nor was I looking for that. It was exactly what I expected with a good plot underneath. I’ll go back for more.
