Discusses the witchcraft trials in Salem in 1692, the events leading up to them, and how the trials have been viewed by different historians since then.
Bargain (ex-library copy shipped from the US) - this is a solid introduction to the topic with a nod to contemporary links such as Miller's play, McCarthyism, Wiccan and the role of Salem (modern day Danvers) today as a tourist attraction. Written for schools, nevertheless, this is relatively well research and, what's more, objective in its depiction of both afflicted and accused, unlike Marion Starkey's somewhat histrionic tome. Thus, Abigail is not 'rosy-cheeked', nor is Proctor 'honest', which, to the more serious historian, is infinitely preferable. Overall, a quick read (about an hour) and appropriately illustrated and well worth the two-week wait.
I thought this book was ok for the historical significance and research. The Author did a good job depicting the scene of the trials and it was pretty good. The content was ok and I would recommend it to someone that wants to learn more about the history of colonial america.
The book was great overall. It gave me background knownledge I can use in the future when taking US History and we go over the Salem Trials. I reccomend it for anyone who enjoys history and is interested in witch craft.
It was great book the book really takes you back to 1692 and tells the story of what really happened in Salem I would high recommend if you are into History or Witchcraft.
The book I read was The Salem Witch Trials by Lori Lee Wilson. The book genre is nonfiction. The setting is in Massachusetts during the 1600's. There really wasn't any main characters other than all the magistrates that they talked about throughout the entire story. The book is about all the boys and girls that were accused of witchcraft and supposedly serving the devil. I rate the book 4 out of 5 stars because it was very very good, but some of the words were difficult to pronounce and I didn't know what some words meant. But I am very interested in the Salem witch trials so this was a really awesome book to read.
